Spent a fortnight here at the beginning of May. The hotel is very clean, the staff were all very friendly with us and we had no problems at all.
The location of the hotel is fantastic and would be ideal if you didn’t want to walk far to the beach or all the restaurants and bars.
The continental breakfast did the job, but if you wanted something different you could order it, for not much money at all to be honest.
We stayed in room 6 which has the balcony overlooking the beach, wonderful waking up to the gentle tide each morning 😃.
We had scrambled eggs, bacon, yoghurt with fruit and fried eggs on different occasions and were all decent.
We had a beer in the terrace a few times and the prices were the same as anywhere else on the front 👍🏼. We did use the sun beds occasionally.
All things considered we would return here 👍🏼

Ideally placed on the sandy beach front, with sunbeds to hire and food and drink served on the beach (and on the terrace where breakfast is served). Also, tavernas to the right and the left (The Olive is immediately next door and HIGHLY recommended). Everything you need in Stoupa is in easy reach, and the hotel is kept clean and tidy at all times. A small hotel with personal service. - the management and staff do everything they can to accomodate their guests, just ask. Standard continental breakfast can be extended at a reasonable charge. Go for the sea view rooms, it's worth the extra.

Stayed here with my sister for a week. We loved it! Shout out to the cleaning lady-SPOTLESSLY clean and fresh towels every day. Lovely friendly people. Continental breakfast was fine and we also added a fresh fruit salad for a few € more. The beach is right on the doorstep and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. High standards for a 2** Hotel. Thank you Kastro!

Fabulous.
Lovely people running this clean, comfortable hotel.
Superb sea view from 4 front rooms, we were in room 7. The beds are so comfortable crisp cotton sheets, comfortable pillows.
Towels changed daily, beds made, toilet rolls replenished. Shower with good water pressure and plenty of hot water.
Fridge in room, complimentary water.
Plenty of drawers, clothes hangers, free safe and WiFi.
Hairdryer and kettle supplied on request.
Breakfast on the sea/beach facing patio, toast jam, honey, butter. Coffee, orange juice, water and daily fresh baked, assortment of cake, croissants or biscuits.
Would recommend. Hoping to return sometime.
Thank you.

Lovely family run hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Continental breakfast but ability to order anything else at very modest cost. Excellent beach front position. Rooms a good size and ours had nice shaded balcony looking out over the beach. Would thoroughly recommend.

Supposed to have a 'mountain view' from our room an all we can see is another 3 properties in front of us! Breakfast menu rather misleading. All you can have as part of your package is a continental breakfast. Stoupa is ok but we've been to better resorts on mainland Greece.

I agree with Carole W's review below. We hadn't been to Stoupa before but chose the Kastro hotel because of its location and the photos of the rooms looked lovely. We booked a package through Thomas Cook, we were told at the time of booking we were unable to book a sea view room but could request it in the notes and also requested a double bed at the same time. On arrival we were shown to a beautiful sea view room on 1st floor, with a double bed, we were thrilled, then told that the 'upgrade' would cost a further 140 Euros. My partner queried this as having booked a package we should have been informed of any extra charges well before arrival, at this the receptionist became quite hostile and argumentative which was upsetting, she told us that we'd have to speak to Thomas Cook on returnto the UK (which we plan to do).

I then asked whether she could move us to a mountain view room as that is what she told us we'd paid for, she then said there weren't any available and again became quite hostile, so we were in a 'Catch 22' position. We asked for some time to discuss this between ourselves and when we went to reception to talk to the receptionist again the Thomas Cook rep was there, my partner told her the situation thinking she would mediate between us, instead she actually became defensive and was obviously on the side of the hotel. My partner said he felt she was 'up for an argument'. This put my partner and I in a very difficult position, luckily we had enough cash with us to be able to pay the extra but we should have been told in advance. A lot of much older people stay at this hotel and I wonder how many of them have been 'fleeced' on arrival. This was a very upsetting start to our holiday, it made us feel unwelcome and understandably, taken for a ride.

The breakfast is very basic and a couple we befriended told us they were charged an extra 33 euros on leaving for 8 boiled eggs and 5 bananas - surely this would be included in a decent hotel's breakfast? We also used other sunbeds on the beach, we were reluctant to hand over any more cash to the Kastro.

Unlike Carole's review, we didn't find the staff friendly at all, except the cleaner, despite us attempting conversations (in Greek) they were sullen and unfriendly, the hotel manager sat in reception all day watching the news channel on full volume on the tv. The hotel bar was never manned and we felt we were actively discouraged from using it. Overall, a completely unwelcoming atmosphere.

That said, the hotel itself was very clean and well kept, our room was lovely, large and with a beautiful view, however, we had paid a lot for the package before leaving the UK, plus the extra 140 euros, brought the total cost to nearly £2,000 - Very poor value for money.

While in the resort we met many return guests to Stoupa who all had a similar opinion to us about the Kastro, one couple told us it was known as the worst place to stay in Stoupa. We will definitely return to Stoupa, but not to the Kastro and will be taking up the extra charges with Thomas Cook. I would not recommend this hotel.

Arrived at this lovely hotel 2.8.15 for 2 weeks & we where shown to our lovely spacious room. It had very efficient air con, safety deposit box in room, & very clean lovely bathroom as well as a very big balcony which looked out to the mountains. We had clean towels every day & fresh bedding every couple of days, the hotel itself was immaculate. The breakfast was very basic but that didn't bother us at all but what was lovely was sitting out overlooking Stoupa while eating it. It's our second visit to Stoupa but first visit to the Kastro & we would definitely return to this accomadation. We love Stoupa with its lovely beach, tavernas, restaurants & very friendly people. Thank you Kastro for looking after us, you were all very friendly. Hope to see you again soon!

I have been visiting Stoupa since I was a child and also worked in various Greek resorts, so decided to have a trip away with my mum, me (20s) her (50s) with some worries that the magic would be gone, how wrong we were!

We had read some negative reviews of Kastro but were not deterred, this is a great no fuss hotel for guests who don't want to be babysat.

Firstly the location is excellent, right in the middle of town on the bay, exactly what we were looking for and it's a peaceful town so no need to worry about late night bars.

After being shown a room at the back of the hotel on the ground floor and having read online reviews, we asked if a sea view was available. The receptionist was super helpful and offered us a room for 5 nights, returning to the original for our last night, it was totally worth it! For only 50 euros extra in total we had an amazing room with incredible sea views (the gentle waves send you to sleep!)

All rooms also have good size fridges, a real bonus for cold beers, water and snacks, and ample balconies.

Rooms and linen on the big comfy beds were changed every day and everything was spotless, the only sticking point is breakfast, you only get dry toast and coffee or tea for free, but you can pay for other items and we weren't fussed.

Staff are attentive in a hands off Greek way, which suited us fine. For a week away this was perfect and we will be back, it's a short 15 min walk to the best beach in Greece: Kallogria and a stumble from lots of fab restaurants and bars that I am happy to say are no longer distant memories.

My daughter and I have been visiting Stoupa since 2001 and we had always intended to stay at the Kastro Hotel at some point, having eaten there and knowing its location right on the central beach, where we love to snorkel.

After booking, we read some poor reviews and were a little concerned that standards had slipped, but decided to go with an open mind. We were absolutely delighted with our holiday.

We received a pleasant greeting on arrival and were shown the facilities including the fridge, in-room safe, television, spotless bathroom (with bath and shower) and our air-conditioning with remote control, which was highly effective. Our beds were very comfortable and we both slept really well, despite external temperatures of 40 oC with 50% humidity!

The breakfast did lack variety, it was toast with butter, jam and honey, and orange cake every day, but the coffee was lovely and since there are so many tavernas and cafes in the resort, the simple breakfast was fine. The restaurant no longer opens, but again, the hotel is so central that this really doesn't matter.

Hotel sunbeds are 5 Euros per day for two sunbeds and a large, static umbrella, but this is the going rate throughout the resort. There is also a tap and hose-pipe provided in the hotel drive-way for rinsing sand from your legs and feet, so that your room stays nice and clean.

The hotel is immaculately clean, and fresh-smelling, with a very high standard of finish. Bedding and all towels were replaced every day. I have travelled widely in Greece including the mainland, many islands and Athens. The only hotel that has surpassed the Kastro was a major 5 star hotel in central Athens.

The staff were all very helpful, friendly and polite, although not over-chatty. Most of the other guests were Greek, as are the majority of visitors to Stoupa, and we particularly enjoy the authentic nature of the resort and this hotel. Visitors preferring English food and company would probably enjoy a large island resort more than Stoupa.

We will definitely stay at the Kastro Hotel again next time we go to Stoupa. Thank you.
