The philosophy of this hotel is what makes it stand out, a huge effort has gone into renovating the properties, planting the grounds with vines and vegetables which are served as part of the wonderful meals, and finding staff who are attentive, friendly and knowledgeable without being overbearing. We loved our stay here and especially enjoyed the amazing setting with...

In a beautiful location with Etna brooding in the background, the estate is cultivated in traditional ways and birdsong and butterflies abound. The spirit of Monaci dele Terre Nere is unique and can best be experienced relaxing on a terrace or wandering round the estate. The focus is on the experience and the ingredients; epitomised by cheese and nuts set...

A delightful spot in the foothills of Mount Etna, with good views down to the coast, Monaci delle Terre Nere specialises in organic local produce. You can walk around the estate and see the fruit trees, vines and vegetables growing. It is a peaceful location. The pool area is lovely, although I was disappointed that the pool is too shallow...

This is a labour of love with the owners creating a magical experience. The food is all organic and mainly grown on the grounds. Meals are served in and outdoors and are a real treat. Actually the main meals are real artistry with great creativity. The rooms are quite rustic but comfortable with some in the main building and others...

the quarters (SUITE DEPENDANCE DELUXE SONTUOSO) and grounds were green and picturesque in the spring many organic grown-on-site-foods (proprietary olive oil is great!) the prix fixe dinner was very good (maybe a touch too creative for purists who don't like fish and cheese together) (we went to Quattro Archi in Milo the second night- really great!!!) staff was very friendly,...

Although the hotel is situated on a very large ecological property and the rooms were well furnished and beautiful, we were not really fond of the hotel. The atmosphere / hospitality was not very warm (a bit fake), a big contrast with other hotels we visited in Sicily. Food was to expensive. Wen we entered the hotel that was one...

Dear Guest, thank you for appreciating our eco-sustainable commitment and the style of our interior design and furniture. It seems that despite our efforts, you missed our professional, Sicilian and warming welcome of our staff, and we are very sorry about that, since the authentic relation with our guests is what we care most. Our restaurant offers whether a four...

We had the most basic room at the hotel but it was perfectly comfortable and better value than where we had stayed in Taormina. The grounds and views at the hotel are stunning. Lying by the pool overlooking the countryside down to the sea was wonderful and will stay in my memory. We also witnessed some impressive eruptions from Etna...

With a property this stunning, and a concept this good, they should be able to charge top prices, but they don't. They don't because they can't (always the case in the free market); and that's because the execution falls short of the promise. For a start, there's the whole eco-tourism thing. They grow their own food. Delicious idea. And they...

Dear Guest, thank you for your feedback on your stay at Monaci. We are glad that you grasped the essence of this place and that you appreciated many aspects of our work. We do not have the arrogance of introducing ourselves as a luxury hotel, we work for being a Sicilian retreat where the splendor is in the welcome and...

Stayed here in October 2013 for a week for our honeymoon and it is such a beautiful place, a small secluded paradise. Wonderful and helpful owners. A very relaxing and calming atmosphere. Best breakfast (fruits, cheeses etc.) that I ever had. We stayed in the very romantic "suite amabile", perfect for honeymooners. The manifestation of understated luxury.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 2007, by chance, I stumbled upon this place, fell in love with it and decided to devote my life to its resurrection. To bring this place, previously chosen by the monks of Saint Anna’s order for his special energy and extraordinary charm, back to life. It has become the second great project of my life. The estate Monaci delle Terre Nere is situated along the slopes of Mount Etna, the biggest volcano in Europe on the border of the Etna National Park at 500mt above sea level. My wish has been to preserve the historic identity and local traditions, more than a Boutique Hotel it is a home which I hope retains its intimacy. The house which dates from 1800 is listed as one of historical importance. It is now a place where traditional Sicilian Architecture is combined with contemporary art and living. ... more   less
