This hotel is quite special, being near so many attractions (Efteling, Beekse Bergen) and with many facilities that also make it an attraction in itself. The rooms are very nicely done, with comfy beds, Nespresso machines, rainshowers, bath tubs and nice toiletries. Many rooms have balconies and some rooms have a lovely view on the nature area. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, nothing is too much to ask. We dined at the restaurant in the evening and the food was excellent, and thoughtfully there is a fully equipped kids corner to keep the young ones entertained. The breakfast buffet is also extensive, with many choices of hot and cold items of a high quality. The bowling alley was a hoot and we really enjoyed ourselves there, it's very new and fresh feeling as well. The swimming pools and wellness areas are also great. There are multiple pools with various depths and temperatures. The wellness area has a great sauna and steam room which I really enjoyed. Make sure to make time for a visit to the swimming and wellness! We would happily return to this hotel again.

The hotel is located in Brabant forest area, just in 20 mins driving from Efteling. We picked the hotel because of its location.
We took a basic room, and it had all needed necessities, including a tea cattle and various toiletries.
The dinner in the restaurant was delicious. We sit outside and the view was on the forest and lake.
The hotel has a few indoor swimming pools and one outdoor. We enjoyed them a lot.
The things we enjoyed less:
1. Breakfast.
Normally, van der Valks have food breakfast. But this time we were unlucky. Salads, fresh vegetables and smoothies stayed for too long and were spoiled.
2. Cleanliness.
The shelf above bed was dusty.
3. I am not a fan of missing (by design) door at the bathroom. But Dutch hotel designers often find it nice.

very nice hotel, bowling available, casino. Even in bad weather you can't get bored here. Both indoor and outdoor wellness, the wellness rooms are spic and span and everything has been thought of, such as connecting your own music, sun shower in the shower, wonderful with this winter weather. There was a bottle of textile spray to be completely in the wellness mood. and, a shame about the closed swimming pool due to renovation and the works just next to the wellness garden,

Beautiful hotel and facilities but awful staff. Staff constantly act like you’re inconveniencing them when their procedures and tone are the issue.

After checking out, we wanted to go swimming and had booked two massages. We weren’t offered for our luggage to be held but rather informed that there are lockers in the pool area, which seems a ridiculous suggestion given that we had suitcases. When we asked to use the luggage room instead, this appeared to be a serious chore for the receptionist.

Bands are handed out for the outside pool area. Our children were allowed in the outside pool the previous day. We were informed in the morning that this area was in fact 18+. This is fine but the reason we booked a massage is because our children were keen to play in the pool the next day, so some consistency in enforcing this rule is needed. We were then questioned as to how we had a band for the outside area in the first place.

Where payment for the spa is to be taken is not explained upon booking. This meant I arrived at the spa for my massage only to be told to walk back to the main reception to pay. The staff were accusatory and unhelpful, which made me want to cancel my massage entirely. Under normal circumstances, the 12 hour cancellation window is entirely fair but when I am cancelling because of disgusting customer service I expect to not have to pay. They cancelled my partner’s massage but still asked for payment for mine. Unfortunately, they would not open the luggage room until we paid for it or else I’d have just left.

With a complete overhaul of staff, this would be a 5 star hotel. As it stands, I would not return.

Response from Robbert Juten, Marketing at Van Der Valk Hotel Gilze-tilburg
Responded 12 Apr 2023
Dear guest, First of all, we would like to let you know how sorry we are that you had an unpleasant experience. As you describe it, it seems like things of a procedural nature. We have various wellness facilities, including a large indoor swimming pool and sauna, where children are welcome. Part of the many facilities is the outdoor wellness garden, which is reserved for guests > 18 years old. The receptionist apparently did not realize that it would have been appropriate to immediately offer you the luggage space instead of the lockers. A bit clumsy for which we apologise. The same applies to the payment of the massage. We can imagine that this procedural clumsiness has caused some irritation, but please consider it an incident that is absolutely not representative of our hospitality principles, which we hold very highly!

Great hotel, friendly staff and excellent restaurant. I wanted to share a disappointment: the swimming pool is closed at several times of the day, without this being mentioned on the website! It turns out that swimming lessons are given (almost immediately after arrival time until the evening). Big disappointment for our children. Outdoor swimming pool is only for those over 18 years old. So do not book an Efteling package at this hotel with small/young children. My children didn't understand why the pool was closed and I tried to explain it. The children's menu in the evening was nicely set up with a toy as a gift.

Tip for the hotel:
- On the terrace it was not possible to sit under the trees, so many caterpillars were falling down. During the summer months, hang a tent canvas under the trees.
- Communicate honestly to users about the limited availability of the swimming pool. I understand that swimming lessons are an additional source of income (probably caused by corona), but be honest about this so that users can take this into account.

I booked a high summer package as a surprise weekend for my boyfriend who had his birthday last Saturday. We wanted to celebrate here in a relaxed way.

However, there have been a few negatives for us:

- On arrival a dirty bath in the room which had to be rinsed before you could use it because there were black hairs on the edge of the bathtub and in the bath itself.
- The changing rooms of the women at the pool / wellness garden were very dirty. Hair, paper, plastic on the floor. Because of this, I walked straight to the room to shower and get dressed.
- With our package we had 2x a 3-course dinner. This dinner was served very quickly in terms of courses so we were already in the room within 50 min.. It seemed from our point of view that they could not earn much more from us since we had an arrangement and that while we chose both evenings for dishes with additional payment.
- We had a drink in the lounge bar on Friday night. We thought it would be very cozy there. However, it took an awful long time to order drinks (more than 15 min) while we were sitting at the bar. It seemed they had no control/structure while 2 bartenders were present. Then there were people sitting outside the lounge area and had a bartender gone to these guests to tell them to walk to the bar themselves to order drinks while the bartender walked there himself?! Then his colleague (an Asian man) did not stand for this behind the bar and started exchanging words with this younger bartender in front of all kinds of guests / hotel guests. Not very neat to the guests! But not at all how the employee was talked to.

These events play a part in the fact that we enjoyed it less than we expected beforehand. I think it's a shame because for this weekend I spent over €800,- at your place, Van der Valk; on the high summer package, extra payment for the food (3-courses), lounge bar. Excluding the food and drinks ordered in the wellness garden.

It was our 2nd visit to Gilze and our 6th visit to a Van der Valk hotel.
I have the app, always use it to make reservations and can then pay straight away. This means that checking in is very quick and unbureaucratic.

As the prices have gone up quite a bit compared to last year, we only took the cheapest room for one night. Still of good quality. Beds were very good. Nice bathroom with rain shower. Nespresso machine, balcony.

Gilze is also the only Van der Valk hotel we know of where you can check into the room before 3 p.m. The others always make you wait.

So we were in the restaurant at 2 p.m. and ordered a nice lunch. The selection is good and the portions are not too big. We had a gentleman in the service who was nice and friendly.

We had already reserved a table for dinner when we booked the room. Unfortunately, we were seated in the darkest area. That was a bit of a shame. We were served by the same person as at lunch, who also immediately brought us the same wine as at lunch. The food is good, as is the wine selection.

We ordered another bottle of wine to take to our room. Chilled with 2 glasses.

Certainly not top but always good.

I have been coming to this hotel since 1982. A few nights every year for the last 10 years. It feels like coming home. I requested a specific room when booking and got it. We were able to check in early, the room was ready. There were two packs of water, coffee maker, kettle in the cupboard as well as a small refrigerator and large safe. The room was clean, we slept well, heard no noises. Balconies have been renovated and become beautiful. Also two new chairs and ottoman in the room. Lunch was good, pleasant service. In the evening we wanted to eat in the lobby bar, just like last year, but it was full. Then off to the restaurant. We were snapped at because we didn't have a reservation by the arrogant man at the door. Finally he walked ahead of us to a table that he pointed to from afar. There were plenty of empty tables but probably not enough staff. The waiter walked his legs out from under his body, leaving little attention for the customers. Because we had already had an extensive lunch, we ordered soup in advance and asked to share a tournedos from the stone. The person who took the order replied that an extra cover setting would be charged. We received a tiny bowl and extra cutlery for that, but we couldn't get rid of a plate for €5.50 extra! The food was good, but the fries had been reheated earlier, so they were not tasty.
The next evening we had dinner in the lobby bar. The same waiter from the previous evening, good service, smaller menu but the food was very good, waiter walked his legs out again, while his colleague seemed to take it easier in our eyes. We will also choose the lobby bar on our next stay so as not to be confronted with the rude man at the entrance to the restaurant. Last Christmas we stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and ate in the lobby bar every evening, after a bad experience with the same “manager”.

The room was neat, but the knobs for the lamps were in a place in the hallway, the coffee machine could not use the cups that were there.

The restaurant is not recommended. Food is cold and after receiving new dishes it turned out to be different meat. Something also went wrong at the table next to us
