Highland Spirit is a charming, historical building built in 1830 with many original features. It is the number one rated place to stay in Moray, Speyside and Dufftown and 4-star GOLD Visit Scotland accredited. It has been refurbished to a very high standard with superb beds and showers. All rooms are superking. The two front rooms - the Exciseman and the Architect - have excellent eastwards views down Glenfiddich. The rear part was a Bank. The Bank Manager Room looks back over the rooftops to the iconic Clock Tower. Glenfiddich and Balvenie Distillery Tours are within village walking distance. Many other distilleries, such as Macallan, Glenlivet, Carhu are close. Non-Whisky attractions include Knockando Woolen Mill, Johnstons of Elgin, Ballindalloch Castle, the Speyside Cooperage and Balvenie Castle. Dufftown has its own Golf Course. Highland Spirit is perfectly placed only 2 minutes walk from the village centre yet its long driveway and large gardens give it a very peaceful and calm ambience.

Honestly one of the best stays I've experienced. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the beds incredibly large and comfortable. Breakfast is a three-star home-cooked experience. Karen and Alistair pay attention to the slightest detail in order to make their guests comfortable and happy, and are very generous in providing information and advice about the bests places to visit.

Our stay at the Highland Spirit B&B was wonderful. Hospitality from Karen and Alistair was top-notch. While you checked in with Karen in the dining room, your luggage was magically (thanks, Alistair) whisked away to your room. Little unexpected and kind touches like that by Karen and Alistair made the stay even better. The location was perfect, and we were able to easily walk around town and to restaurants. We stayed in the Architect Room which was so comfortable and had every amenity we could possibly need in the room and bathroom. Karen was so knowledgeable so, you not only got a great breakfast but were treated to a little talk of Scottish culture and whisky.

I just finished a 3 night stay with Alistair and Karen at Highland Sprit, and couldn't have been more comfortable or made to feel more welcome. The room I was in was large and had a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and the Mortlach distillery chimney next door. The breakfasts provided were excellent, with lots of selection (I had a different breakfast each day - all excellent). Dufftown isn't large but the B&B is convenient to downtown and a few minute walk to the tower in the centre of town. The couple is a fountain of knowledge regarding the local distilleries and shops selling whisky. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else in the Speyside area.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay. Having been welcomed with tea, shortbread and a tot of whisky we were shown to our spacious room where fresh flowers had been placed and more refreshments were available. Breakfast was delicious and generous. Our host was very informative with lots of local tips. A real treat.

My wife and I stayed at this marvellous B&B for four nights in this summer. We wanted to relax and enjoy learning local cuisine and whiskey history, this was our purpose of the trip, Our host, Karen and Alistair, perfectly supported for our stay. We could feel their passion to local culture and hospitality to customers. And their knowledge of local and whiskey history, for example excise man, were so wonderful. Those as spice of the trip delighted us.

In particular, It became a good memory which their friends surprisingly joined in the end of Mortlach history & whisky walk. We also enjoyed communicating with locals, and we had a good time with them and some more shots of wonderful whiskey as well.

My wife and I travelled some countries and stayed at the hotel a lot. Some were good, others were not good. Undoubtedly I highly recommend my friends to stay at this B&B when visiting the capital of Malt whiskey.
We would like to stay at this B&B again and walk in hills and mountains in Spey side.

Dear Yoshi, What an amazing experience it was to have such wonderful Japanese guests staying with us in Dufftown. It was really interesting to chat with you and learn a little about Japanese culture whilst sharing our Scottish hospitality and culture with you. It was real fun to take you on the Mortlach History and Whisky Walk and to see you enjoy the stories and whisky so much. Thank you for recommending us to your friends and we hope that we may be a part of your future travels to Speyside. Kindest regards Alistair and Karen

We stayed two nights at Karen and Alistair's Bed and Breakfast. They were the most amazing and welcoming hosts. We were welcomed with whisky, coffee and biscuits. The room was extremely well appointed - very comfortable bed and all the amenities you could want. Even before we arrived, I communicated with Karen and she was extremely helpful in giving us all the links to book reservations for everything while we would be there.

You are so close to many activities - we did several whisky tastings/tours, a tour of the Cooperage, Knockando Wool Mill, Walkers Biscuits and probably our favorite was the Mortlach Whisky Tour with Alistair. It was extremely informative and so fun to hear all about the whisky and the local town from Alistair! Breakfast was absolutely delicious each morning and we honestly cannot say enough good things about staying here.

We hope to be back next time we are lucky enough to visit Scotland!

My wife and I have recently returned from a 3 night stay at Highland Spirit. This was the second visit for myself and the first for my wife. It is quite simply the finest bed and breakfast I have ever stayed in! Karen and Alistair make you feel so welcome in their beautiful home, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are a goldmine of local knowledge and I would recommend a call to them before your visit, for all the local information on the many attractions in the area.
Our visit was simply to unwind and de-stress before our Campsite season starts and it did that perfectly!
The scenery alone is worth the 600 plus mile drive from our home in Kent.
I’m already thinking about my next visit to this amazing place, and look forward to staying with Karen and Alistair again.

I spent nine nights at the Highland Spirit on my first visit to Scotland. Karen and Alistair were the most amazing hosts. The accommodations were meticulously kept and very clean. The property itself was a little jewel in an already beautiful country. The breakfast was always so delicious and fresh, a perfect way to keep you going for a busy day. Karen was a complete professional in hospitality. Besides keeping me well fed, she gave excellent recommendations on sights I should see, and provided detailed explanations on how to find my way around the countryside. She made taxi reservations for me when needed and followed up before my outings. She was such a joy to chat with over breakfast and always had an answer to my many random questions. I truly felt she was looking out for me during my stay, and Alistair as well. I took his Whisky Walk, which was both fun and educational. I learned so much on our adventure and had several drams I never would have tried otherwise. He is extremely knowledgeable in both whisky and the history of the area. Karen and Alistair are one reason Dufftown is so special and I can't imagine there is a better B&B anywhere in Speyside!!!

Our room (exciseman) was large and full of interesting whisky related bits and bobs, including really informative books. We hoped to learn more about whisky and definitely did - the hosts knowledge and interest helps with this. Karen and Alistair are fabulous hosts, helping you to settle in quickly and pointing you in the right direction locally. Tea, cake and chat on arrival was a lovely touch.
The bed was very comfortable, bathroom lovely and clean, shower warm and breakfasts delicious.
We are very likely to be back!

Wow, where to even begin this review. We had the most magnificent stay at Highland Spirit B and B. Our hosts, Karen and Alistair, were not not only the kindest, most gracious hosts, we felt like we left Dufftown with them being our friends. Upon arrival, we were greeted with delicious tea, cake, a dram of whisky, and delightful conversation. Karen showed us to our room, The Architect, and it was gorgeous. It was very spacious, clean, and decorated so beautifully. Karen's attention to details within the room were impeccable too. It really did feel like home. The breakfast each morning was delicious. The Scottish porridge was so good that we had it both mornings! The location of the b and b is excellent. It's within walking distance to just about everything you need and want to see in Dufftown, and it's easy access for driving to the other activities and distilleries outside of town. The parking was easy and tucked away off the street. Truly, this is the best b and b that we have ever stayed in, and probably ever will! 10/10 HIGHLY recommend on your next trip to Dufftown!
