This is a beautifully maintained complex on the outside, in a breathtaking area, gorgeous uninterrupted views over the rear field and beyond. Tranquil and peaceful. Sadly, as the other reviews have said the inside of our large barn Stanway, needs some serious attention. The decor, carpets, soft furnishings and mattresses all need replacing. They are dirty and old and sadly give the place a worn out feel. The electric showers are temperamental and there are a lot of small snagging jobs (fixing handles, light switches, cleaning mould, etc) that could easily be done to spruce the place up. It’s a shame that these elements let down the experience as the space, the use of the large field for the dogs and games etc, the great games room and tennis and badminton courts all make this the perfect place for a family get together. It seems odd as the bedding and towels etc are all spotless and fresh. A few other suggestions would be outside lighting for the garden, a paved area for the outside table rather than on grass, a larger bbq than one kettle style to cook for 18, and a later checkout time. Being asked to leave by 9.30am when you have to strip beds and empty bins as part of the agreement is a bit early! Either a later check out, or no cleaning jobs left to guests would be better. This place could be utterly idyllic with a bit of investment. …

We are very sad to write this review. Mark, director, has let us down by making what he calls “a simple mistake”. Nearly 3 weeks after acknowledging receipt of our deposit and confirming our booking he came back to tell us that he had double booked our dates and that he was going ahead with the other booking. He claimed that the other booking had been made before ours. We are sad because the booking was for a big family get together and had taken much planning and commitments for on-site catering etc. We have no further comment except to advise anyone to be very careful in dealing with this property. Do not overlook the other reviews.

We stayed in Stanway house as a group of 10 adults and 7 children for four nights. A great location, though sadly as almost all of the previous reviews have mentioned, in need of updating and maintenance. Tiles off the roof and exposed rafters made for a noisy night when the wind blew, dirty shower heads, broken lights, daily tripping of electric and boiler and very tired sofas. The carpet in the hall way was a significant trip hazard. We appreciate this has been a difficult few years with Covid but the same complaints have been echoed in reviews since 2017, without rectification. We loved that each room had washroom facilities but when travelling with children, it would have been handy to know that there was only one actual bathtub. I doubt we will visit again sadly because of all the issues. The owners were friendly and helpful. Towels and linen clean and plenty of pillows. Great views and a good games room.…

We have just had a 3 night stay in the large cottage. Beautiful stone drive up to the cottages. A good size car park. The accommodation we had was very spacious and had plenty of bedrooms all with en suite. There were two parts to the cottage, a kitchen & large dinning table and through the corridor a lounge with another small kitchen. With bedrooms coming off. The lounge had plenty of sofas, but all in need of upgrading as the seating all were over used and tired. The smaller kitchen too was old & tired too. The accommodation was very clean, bedding spotlessly clean white sheets, towels. There were a few issues we had , ie. one of the showers didn’t work , the electricity kept tripping, one loo seat was in need of replacing as it was loose. A shower had no attachment to hang it from. The main light switches in 2 rooms didn’t work. Some ceiling lights throughout the property needed re fitting. The carpet from the main kitchen to the lounge was loose, old and in need of replacing. ( a trip hazard) To roof tiles at the back of the property we’re loose & some had come off. The place was spotlessly clean. There was a new cooker & kitchen. Ample cooking pots pans, plates etc. There was enough rooms and chairs to accommodate us & there is a beautiful view in the back garden. We all enjoyed staying here & would recommend it, but just note, some parts of the accommodation needs some TLC I believe if they had a handy man doing the odd jobs we noticed it would stop the property becoming so tired & worn out.…

In need of some serious TLC. We recently stayed in the 'Stanton' converted barn at Flagstone Farm, and just like a previous reviewer stated I feel the place really let's itself down. It's a fantastic spot, very peaceful and close to lots of local amenities in the surrounding villages, but as you can see by the photos attached the place is in need of some serious TLC, and in some areas wouldn't even pass a safety inspection. Broken light fittings hanging off the ceilings, cracked window panes overhead and even a broken smoke detector. Which leads onto a whole other debate on the fact that this place can happily accommodate 14+ occupants and should therefore have a more comprehensive fire alarm system, wired to the mains not just battery operated ones. There is also no visable fire compartmentation in the building. Thankfully, these items didn't stop us from having a lovely week in the area, we just had to make sure we kept the kids away from open wires, and didn't set anything on fire! It's a great space for a large number of people to get together, but the little things let it down. I wouldn't return. Can I recommend that the owners start taking a refundable security deposit which is returned once each party leaves to cover breakages etc? Most places we stay at run such a scheme and I can only imagine that the lack of security deposit here leads to the general upkeep of the place deteriorating over time. …

This place is just about OK for what one pays - but the plumbing needs serious attention - specifically what must be one of the main drains as waste water spills out of the inspection hatch cover over a central path when too many people have used the complex - ? a serious health and safety issue.

My family and I were looking to return to the cottage that we had stayed at five years earlier. Group of 12. I made a booking with Mark, confirmed the dates via email and asked for the payment details to be sent to me which took him 6 days to send. I paid the deposit the following day after receiving the payment details only to be told via email the morning after that he had given that weekend to someone else. When I called him to ask how that had happened as I had confirmed that weekend with him, he had been the one that delayed the payment process and hadn’t even called out of courtesy to check before giving it away. Mark was extremely rude and unprofessional and said “it’s not f*cking going to change anything” before hanging up on me. No apology, awful customer service. No way to do business. I really do hope Mark owns the property as I would not have someone like that working for me.…

We stayed in ‘Stanton’ for a weekend to celebrate a milestone birthday. The house accommodated is all very comfortably with a mix of four poster, double and twin beds, mostly with en-suite bathrooms. The main draw for us was the large living/dining/kitchen space, with plenty of sofas, a large dining table and a well stocked kitchen (with a large fridge-freezer and dishwasher). The decor of some of the rooms was a little tired but it didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the weekend. There was ample parking, and the games room was an added bonus. The location was excellent with Stow on the Wold close by.

Situated on a farm, converted barn cottage. Sited in a lovely rolling countryside with acres of land and very quiet. A games room is available as is a badminton court and tennis court. Large spacious property. The let down was the cesspit located on the field is not marked as such or at all. It was overflowing which my dog managed to roll in as we didn’t know it was a cesspit as not marked. It also stank when the wind was blowing towards the cottages. Surely for health and safety this should be marked clearly and fenced off? It could have been a child. The decor is looking tired. The shower in my bathroom had mould. Plug sockets in another weren’t working and there was a drip from the ceiling coming from upstairs. A shame because with a bit more thought this could be amazing. …

This was a family special birthday Easter holiday 4 nights from Good Friday until Easter Tuesday From the moment we arrived until Tuesday morning we had blue skies & sunshine with above average temperatures Probably the best Easter weather for many years The Stanway accommodation was perfect for us, 6 bathrooms to please 8 adults & 7 grandchildren ranging from 4 to 17 years Dining area had long wooden table to seat everyone at meal times Lounge was nicely configured with plenty of sofas to make evenings very enjoyable On the minus side, they were a "little tired" & one sank into them Another down side was the electric showers lacked pressure Having looked last year when deciding which house to rent we think the Stanway in all aspects was the better property for our family The views from the Stanway across the fields was superb, we enjoyed most days sat at the table with our coffees & drinks in the evening, so peaceful, see pics The games room & facilities was used extensively by our family My wife walked one day towards the woods & meet the peacock that was roaming there Thanks to Jeff & Ann for their various help when needed We will certainly want to return…
