The rooms are spacious for 4 people at least (One-Bedroom Apartment). The furniture and the cooking utensils are perfectly new and clean, and the making up of the room is done regularly and thoroughly. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a small, but convenient fridge with a freezer.
I would mostly like to note the perfect architecture of the hotel building which allows for almost every room to have a sea view. We were happy to enjoy our meals every day (especially breakfast) on a small balcony facing a rather considerable part of the sea panorama, as well as the majority of our neighbours. As well as that, the area of the hotel is situated a little bit away from the main roads and bars, which makes it rather quiet.
The best part about the location of Alva is the fact that it is only 5 mins away from the Fig Tree Bay beach of Protaras. We were also surprised to discover that Alva's building is visible from the beach itself. Therefore, swimming before and after breakfast becomes no trouble.
There are plenty of places in close proximity to buy food and all the necessary stuff for a good trip. Lidl Supermarket is only 10 mins away by foot, and many good cafés are situated around the hotel. A small kind of café is available by the pool area, serving freshly made pizza and other dishes.
WiFi connection is available all around the hotel building and is fast and stable. The pool is always clean and comfortable to swim in.
The staff is friendly and helpful at any moment, speaking perfect British English (I was even alarmed at the quality of my own speech). Every request that we asked for was fulfilled right away with politeness and care.
Overall, I hope my review sounds not that pathetic, but it assembles exactly what we think of our stay at Alva Hotel Apartments. In addition, Alva will be the major accommodation option to consider should we return to Protaras once more.
At the moment
The hotel has very friendly staff and special mention goes out to the three men Chris, Pan and Cosmos are wonderful. The apartment are very spacious and extremely clean
The pool area is good with plenty of beds
The hotel is positioned in a brilliant location with a five minute stroll to fig tree bay and all the local bars and restaurants
The only problem that we have encountered is that there are a lot of Russians here who got to bed really early and complain when Chris plays music in the bar after 11pm, it appears to us that the hotel is more concerned for the Russian clientele that the British. This is a holiday resort we are on holiday to have a good time not to be told that music cannot be played after 11pm
Chris, pan and Cosmos do a fantastic job and are so friendly and given the current situation with covid they could not do better
Please cater for your other guests not just the Russians
We are however having a fantastic time and will come again thank you for your excellent hospitality
This hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and all staff and guests were friendly.
A small hotel but much better than some of the larger ones.
We stayed B&B but wouldn’t chose to do so again. Breakfast is ok with a very small variety. Hot food is uncovered on hot plates leaving this exposed to fly’s. Cereal is 2 choices. Fruit is watermelon and there were 2 pastries on offer. All food is uncovered so again not hygienic.
Upon arrival we were ‘upgraded’ to a suite but having heard other check ins this seemed to be the norm! The room was large enough for a family of 4 with plenty of storage. The bathroom was a walk in shower and 2 other rooms, 1 with twin beds and the other with a sofa bed, camp bed, coffee table, table & chairs and a kitchenette. Plentiful. After a few days I noticed a damp/ moist feel in the room and when looking closer there were black spores of damp/mould near the air conditioning units. The under sink cupboard smelt of strong damp and the standing lamp was covered in mould spores. I complained to Reception who immediately dealt with this by removing the lamp and cleaning the ceiling. This would be a temporary measure so do check your room on arrival.
Cleaners work really hard but room only cleaned every other day and often not enough towels.
Overall a lovely little hotel where I would stay again if the food hygiene and damp issues were resolved.
View mainly over the car park. Behind many buildings you could see the sea. Balcony is big enough for having breakfast and a light meal in the evening.
The Kitchen provides much place for preparing meals but the furnishing of cutlery and dishware is very economic. Fortunately we had read reviews before our journey, so we brought our stuff for dishwashing and our usual sharp knife.
The staff changed almost every day, but everyone was very nice and extremely helpful. So far, we would have been satisfied (if it was not for the spring matress which was too hard on the surface but too soft altogether).
But the surroundings were terrible. Fast food everywhere, expensive "Best Buy" supermarkets and one Lidl with the pettiest assortment we have seen in any Lidl of Europe, loads of people everywhere. You want nice tranquil evenings on your balcony or in a garden or on the beach? Forget it. In Protaras you live in the middle of a fun fair. The later the evening, the louder the noise of carnival barkers and cacophony "music". Even the "fun" mile of Palma de Mallorca was more decent. The top of all were two women who made an infernal noise in the hallway at midnight. I opened my door and saw them kneeling in a distance of ca. 12 m in front of their door trying to get their key in. I would have helped them but had to close our door quickly because I got sick of their stench of alcohol which filled the whole long hallway. And I thought: This town is a place that attracts such guests.
Someone tried to comfort us with the remark that it would be much worse in Agia Napa. Well then!
The swimming pool is lovely and gets the sun for most the day. The hotel is on the main street in Protaras right next to all the shops, bars and restaurants and a 2 min walk to Fig Tree Bay.
What made this place stand out was Katia, the manager. She went out of her way to accommodate us even cooking my girls pancakes and getting them croissants for breakfast when they weren't on the menu. She couldn't do more for us.
Highly recommend for families, coupled and groups of friends to stay. I will definitely be staying again. Thanks to Katia and the team.
"Good location, parking available and clean rooms but that's as good as it gets. The annexe is old, poorly equipped and noisy, just not a place for us unfortunately."Read full review
"Great places to eat, the giro's were excellent and very cheap, no need to bring travel plugs as the sockets here are English, also excellent conversion rate on the euro"Read full review
"Bring extension leads. Maybe a four way. Get up early if you want a sun bed around the pool."Read full review
