The farmhouse is in a beautiful situation, being on a footpath with Roughlee village a ten minute walk away and Barley a fifteen minute walk away in each direction alongside the lovely riverside of Pendle Water, the room overlooks fields and the riverside, and a garden with a little patio and water feature which was very sweet and we were invited to use, it is however part of the owners own garden and some might feel a bit uncomfortable sitting out there with everyday life going on around them. The room is also accessed by the owner through a adjoining door through to the farm kitchen where breakfast is served and there is some noise from general life going on in the farmhouse which could be a bit of an issue but we were also able to help ourselves to milk from the owners fridge throughout our stay which was a plus, the door is lockable however.
Breakfast was ok, small selection of cereals, one portion of fruit selected by owner, scrambled egg on one small thin piece of toast (we are vegetarians) and one piece of toast after. Not a vast amount or any sort of choice really, maybe a small breakfast menu would be an idea. Dont get me wrong, it was all lovely, but every other b and b I've been too has some sort of variety or choice....the scrambled egg was gorgeous, made with fresh eggs from her own chickens and the best I've ever tasted, but after three days of the same it became a bit tedious. I do realise that often us veggies are a bit of an enigma and people dont always know what to give us :)
Locally for food we visited the Pendle Inn in Barley village, very good food here, and The Bay Horse in Roughlee....quite posh but nice menu. Lots of lovely walks from here, a brilliant place to stay to explore the Ribble Valley.
One more downside was the tv, was a flat screen with dvd player built in but quite small and signal was frequently scrambling especially in the evening making it quite hard to watch.
Overall though, we had a great stay here and would recommend it to other travellers.
You don't get to stay at places like these very often. Super-recommended!!!

all. The room we had was the annexe with the bedroom plus a little lounge, both furnished with care and comfort in mind. Our TV was 32" which is big enough plus fridge , microwave, toaster etc. The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice for cereals (at least nine different choices) there was a wide variety of fruit which we could have chosen, the full English breakfast was to die for, with my favourite "black pudding". We had plenty of toast available with tea or coffee. The owner always gives us a very warm & friendly welcome each time we go there. Long may she continue !!!
