Came back to the lakes with my mother-in-law (twin room 5) after a recommendation from their sister hotel in Cockermouth. Location couldn't be better with the two sides of the building going out onto the two main lakes and we thought that the rooms were absolutely beautiful, fresh super clean and very modern. It is obvious that they have been very newly refurbished and the beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up in the morning.

The modern all day bar menu was divine - we ate here a lot.. Grab a seat in the garden, a choice of local ale and take in the superb views. The hotel is definitely 'covid safe', we stayed for 4 nights and upon ordering, were recorded for track and trace every time. All staff wore masks, had continental boxes instead of buffet (in addition to hot made to order), sanitising stations everywhere and wouldn't even put salt shakers on the table (used little packets instead) We thought that this was a little extreme but understood they were taking extra precautions.

The only thing I would suggest is making clear that check in is from 2pm but you can park your vehicle from 12 so we would have used this extra opportunity to explore more of this stunning area/ hotel.

My wife and I took the opportunity to get some country air in over the bank holiday weekend and booked the Buttermere Court Hotel. What a stunning location and hotel!

I’ve never stayed in an area like this, so secluded and surrounded by mountains inbetween 2 lakes. We were worried that being the bank holiday there would be a lot of people there but it still felt like a hidden gem in the Lakes. A highlight was watching the sunrise over Lake Buttermere with almost no-one around, it felt very exclusive!

The hotel staff were so welcoming and incredible throughout our stay. The room was spotless and had modern furnishings and even had a daily tidy from the staff – something you do not always get during the pandemic. The breakfast team were absolutely incredible too. They would go out of their way to accommodate your needs, whether this was different milk for tea/coffee or even substituting items on a dish, we never felt awkward asking for a change. We were even given a takeaway breakfast box which, after the large breakfast, would last us right until dinner.

The food at the bar/restaurant was very fresh and affordable and there was a great selection of local beers as well as larger established ones. Having the beer garden out the back looking onto the valley is something you do not get in many hotels in the Lakes and was certainly welcomed after a long walk!

Overall we had a fantastic experience at the Buttermere Court Hotel. All the staff went above and beyond, the hotel itself was stunning and the location was priceless. I couldn’t recommend this more to anyone looking for a break away in the Lakes.

We stayed here now that the government has lifted travelling restrictions and were pleased to see that the situation was being taken seriously. It was great to see face masks, sanitising stations and track and trace being employed which quickly eased whatever residual worry we had held on to from our hectic lives. Our room had evidently been newly refurbished to a brilliant standard and was as clean and comfortable as you could wish for. Although there was no buffet breakfast in operation (for obvious reasons) this was substituted with cute continental breakfast boxes and the made to order hot breakfast was superb. To top it all off as a guest of the hotel we had a reserved parking space (for free) within the hotel car park which was invaluable as evidently parking is scarce in Buttermere, especially so close to the lake. Overall we couldn't have come to a better place to unwind.

Generous and friendly staff, lovely food, great stay! Can we visit in the sunshine? :)

Three weary, bedraggled and drenched hikers wandered in from the storm. Cold and hungry, the kind staff at the Buttermere Court Hotel came to their rescue, with a friendly welcome and the offering of shelter to recover and dry/thaw out. The family suite was a great - comfy beds to rest weary legs, and in the morning the soothing sound of the nearby stream from the open window. Dinner in the restaurant was a winner too. The following day, the three hikers headed out in dry clothes, with fully bellies, and a breakfast/pack lunch to boot. Can’t ask for much more.

Staff are legends. Thank you.

Ps sorry for turning your reception hall into a temporary water hazard...

We spent three nights there, as it was a part of our Lake District holidays.
It is not cheap accommodation, however - taking into account location and decent standard of room - the price is fully justified (and you also get parking place in the middle of Buttermere).
The staff is very friendly - much above the standards, you can find in "chain hotels".
Good and tasty breakfast was included in room price and we also visited hotel restaurants for our dinners: the list of available dishes was rather short, however you can make up for it with drinks, as there are ... 10 different draft beers.

I spent 3 nights at the Buttermere Court Hotel and I would have stayed longer had I known how picturesque this place would be. The hotel is just a stone's throw away from two beautiful lakes and an easy drive to Cockermouth, Keswick and a number of cute little towns which you can explore.

The room itself was amazing and had stunning views overlooking the landscape and we immediately felt relaxed and carefree. My partner and I wanted to explore the lakes so we hiked around the area which was really breathtaking in itself. Definitely a lot of good opportunities for hiking across all different fitness levels.

The service at the hotel was exceptional. The bar staff, the restaurant servers were all super attentive and friendly.

The food was fantastic- the breakfast was the best breakfast ever and I loved that we had so much choice. We also had lunch and drinks at the hotel on two occasions which was not only delicious but great value for money.

I highly recommend staying here.

We stopped here on the recommendation of a friend. IT NOW HAS NEW MANAGEMENT (thank goodness). The old drab interiors have gone and a new modern bar area created. It is dog friendly and the bar interior welcomes muddy boots, since the flooring is wipe clean. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere bright and light. We ordered several different meals all of which came very promptly. These were served in baskets with delicious fries in small aluminium table buckets. Now, I have noticed some people complaining on these reviews about the lack of variety of what they wanted. But, the food was hot, plentiful and exactly what you need after a long walk. I had the chicken quesadilla which was delicious. There are a large variety of local draft beer, and if you ask nicely you can have a small sample first before you buy.

I get very tired of reading reviews where people constantly harp back to what was. The Buttermere court is certainly and improvement of what was there, even the name is more considered than the "FISH". Previously thy might as well have called it the "The Lake".

Whilst I have not yet stayed at the Hotel, I was shown the bedrooms by staff as we plan a future wedding and they are light, bright, clean and very welcoming, with great views across lake and mountain. Staff tell me they are extremely busy over the next few weeks. Based on my visit, I am not surprised. Go, enjoy and have a large cold one. After your walk, you know you deserve one!!!!

We stayed for two nights as a family last weekend and absolutely loved this hotel, it’s really charming and gave us a fantastic base to experience what the Lake District has to offer. We have two sons aged 15 & 13 and they really enjoyed it too, our youngest was moaning that we had to leave and wanted to stay in Buttermere for the next part of our holiday in the highlands.

Buttermere is a farming village, we saw sheep who had escaped their field, a farmer walking his cows between fields. It was fantastic to see and a huge novelty to us town folk!

We felt safe here mid pandemic and all staff wore face masks, there was hand sanitiser available too. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff here work tirelessly to maintain this level of cleanliness. All staff were friendly and smiley and made us feel very welcome.

We loved the location, there is a good selection of walks directly outside the hotel and a stunning waterfall is a 10 min walk away. Staff are knowledgeable about the area and were able to give us suggestions on request on places to visit.

Breakfast was delicious. The staff were accommodating to our needs, again this area was spotlessly clean.

We ate in the adjoining pub which was really nice. The food was very good and staff were friendly and welcoming.

I’d definitely return to this hotel should we return to the Lake District and would recommend.

I’ve uploaded photos of views from walks directly near the hotel, unfortunately I didn’t take any of the hotel.

Went for lunch after a great walk in the fells and the first thing I noticed was there is no track and trace, anyone can walk in with no contact details being taken.
The place was busy but we managed to get a table in the garden. The menu is very limited, no sandwiches or baguettes, only quesadillas, not really sure street food is something people would want after a walk in the lakes. The beer we had was good but only 2 ales on offer from 8 pumps. Disappointed there was no local ales like Jennings Wainwright or Loweswater Gold.
The staff were friendly and the service was ok but I really think they need to sort their food offering out and get some more beers on.

This was the famous Fish Hotel, home to the Maid of Buttermere. Why the name change?

Hi yes it is the very same hotel. There is a lot of history here. As to the name change you will have to ask the new owners. Locals however not impressed at how hundreds of years of history has been disregarded. In favour of a banal hotel which but for the location is forgettable.
