On our return journey from the Dordogne, we stayed overnight in La Mouche-Abeille in Meung-sur-Loire. On the D2152, a tree-lined avenue leading to La Mouche-Abeille was easy to spot. As we drove up to the house, we were first welcomed by a sweet German Shepherd and a friendly Jack Russell. M. et Mme. Perrody run a beautiful chambre d'hôtes. An old fashioned house with old fashioned furniture, old fashioned bathrooms, old fashioned charm... which is exactly what we like. La Mouche-Abeille is château pied dans l'eau, a waterfront property. We stayed in the pink room -with two very comfortable single beds- that looks out on the Loire (all guests room look out on it I think). The morning sun set the room ablaze, simply magical. The size of the bedroom is big and the en suite bathroom is also large with both loo and shower in perfect order. Superfluous to mention that everything was spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast was opulent. Wifi worked, so I could see to some work issues in peace and quiet. We spoke French with Jean-Jacques and Milène but they both understand and speak English. We highly recommended La Mouche-Abeille to members of our family who drove North a few days after us.…
What we saw ... left us a little confused on many levels. We ended up leaving and not staying. Wanting to try to be as nice as possible, we found the place to be tired, not well maintained and difficult to find. Wanting to show grace, anybody can have a challenging time.
The place is charming, located next to the banks of the Loire. The rooms are old fashioned, tastefully decorated and clean, but without TV and just week Wifi signal. The hosts are extremely gentle and helpful. It feels like family. And then there is this breakfast; a full table of yummy local products. Unfortunately the time we were there, there was a renovation going on that turned this charming place into a building yard. Finish the renovation and I upgrade this place to minimum 4.
If you like a quiet place with green trees and fresh air, you must enjoy La Mouche-Abeille. We spent 3 nights there and felt like we were in our home. Rooms are very spacious, clean, tidy with distinguished styles of antiques (18th century). River view from window or green trees view from the big park does bring the trangquil peacefulness. We love the breakfasts with homemade stuff like jam, eggs, fruits... An the landlords are super nice. You can visit several castles nearby easily.
Recently stayed for 3 nights, we were greeted by our hosts and their very friendly dogs. Drinks were produced on the Terrace which overlooks the Loire. We stayed in the pink room, a very large bedroom with ample sitting space, a large bathroom with typical French plumbing. From our room we had stunning views of the river. A breakfast with homemade items grown in their garden is taken around a large table shared by all the guests. There are very large gardens surrounding the property which you are encouraged to walk around. There is a path along the river starting at the house which goes to the local town of Meung sur Loire.
