Such a beautiful place and the food was amazing! There was homemade pies, fresh veg, juicy meats and it’s locally sourced! All Covid safety measures were in place, including track and trace check in and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. During Covid they offer table service and card payments only which suited us just fine.
Our food was amazing, piping hot and fresh and we didn’t have to wait long at all.
Great selection of drinks too - tap and bottled.
Definitely recommend visiting here and will without a doubt be returning.

We come here often - pre covid 19 - and we have just had our first eat in visit to the pub post covid restrictions. The food and drink was amazing (as always) and the procedures put in place by James and Issy have worked very well! An easy queuing system to order both food and drinks and we were given the choice to eat inside or outside ( we happily chose inside). Dogs still welcome, tables spaced apart and very friendly service as always 😀 Great work guys, we will happily be returning very soon!

We have visited the pub many times, (and stayed there once) in its former iteration as The Giants Rest, when visiting my elderly mother in Newhaven and latterly in a care home in Eastbourne. Four years on after a bereavement, the pandemic and the sale of the pub we visited again today.
The front garden has been smartened up and the interior is unrecognisable as its tastefully decorated with William Morris wallpaper and soft furnishings, and the walls hung with Ravilious paintings.
The Sussex Smokie started was delicious and the lamb roast lovely. The nut roast was given a very favourable review as was the fish and chips.
We live 200 miles away and have no close family to visit anymore but we don’t really need an excuse…?

We had a lovely walk and thought we would finish it with a pint. Been going here for years but think it must of changed hands. The manager or landlady was very rude and unfriendly and treated us like we were children. I know covid has changed things but come on you are in the hospitality sector and treat your paying customers with courtesy as without them you have no business. Very expensive- 3 pints, 1 tonic water a 2 cheesy chips £26! Won’t be returning, it also looked very run down, shame as with three months of closure they could of sorted the back yard out.

We visited on a Saturday lunch time and had high hopes as the pub has been recently refurbished and looks great. The waiting staff were really friendly but unfortunately the food was average at best. A side of garlic bread cost £3.95 but was so small. The mac and cheese had no flavour and everything was really overpriced. Such a shame as the pub has huge potential. Hopefully things will improve with time.

We visited this pub at a friends birthday after a recommendation that he received. We had a previous experience when they first opened but it wasn’t a particularly remarkable experience but agreed to go to see if it had improved somewhat from our previous visit. The food was overpriced. The starters were not good enough for the cost of the portion. We had to request more pitta for the Hummus because a large bowl of Hummus for a few pitta was not good enough. Our mains of the duck leg and sausage cassoulet was had one cut of sausage (bite sized amount) and the burger buns were slightly burnt. I would not recommend going here again as overpriced for a very stark atmosphere and average tasting food.

The Long Man Inn is a beautiful pub, decorated with care, serving good honest food and good local beers.

The only thing lacking there is a bit of atmosphere.
It's all a bit too clean, the staff always seem stressed, looking down on muddy shoes which are an essential part of living in Sussex during winter.
It would be better for everyone involved if they relaxed a little bit. Maybe there's too much light? Embrace being in the country. Relax. You've got a lovely place there, it's all going to be ok.

Such a strange place. Customers seem like a nuisance.
The landlady/manager was possibly one of the rudest people I’ve met in the hospitality industry. Audibly complaining about customers whilst appearing not to do much to support the staff who were struggling.
Food was average and overpriced.
The local snug is a strange addition to a pub as it just adds to the unwelcome environment.
Staff seem to have had no training and no respect for the manager.
A real disappointment after such a long-awaited re-opening and a real waste of what could be a really lovely South Downs pub. Sadly for the Long Man, there are lots of other exceptional pubs locally which they could do well to visit and learn from. From overheard conversations and complaints from other customers, I wasn’t the only one who won’t be going back any time soon!

Four of us had booked and although it was a Tuesday, we were glad we did as most of the dining tables inside were full. Initial impressions were very good as we received a friendly welcome and were seated quickly and drinks orders taken. The Long Man brewery is just a couple of miles away and the beer was superb.

We ordered 2 x steak, ale & mushroom pies (1 with chips and 1 with mash). The chips were excellent, the carrots and cabbage were perfectly cooked, and the pie itself was rich and tasty. Other orders included halloumi burger and the macaroni cheese. These were also very good. All the food was freshly cooked and piping hot.

The toilets were spotlessly clean (to me this always gives a good impression of the state of the kitchen…but maybe I’m weird!).

Highly recommended and would definitely return.

Just one piece of feedback…if the kitchen is busy (as it was), it’s worth managing expectations that there might be a wait for food. As mentioned the food was lovely and freshly cooked…but we did wait 45 minutes for it to arrive. It would have been good to provide an update on the waiting time before we had to ask. Still full marks all round!!
