Highly recommend the villa. Spacious layout and quality fixtures, the villa is 4 rooms, bedroom, entry, bathroom, living plus a lovely sunroom the entire length with panoramic views across garden and 2 large pools to the mountains. Features fridge, coffee machine, kettle. Can sleep 4 with sofa bed.
The managers are so lovely and made me feel so welcome.
Lovely and warm and cosy during my 2 night winter stay. Hope to be back.

Stayed here for one night only but it was a nice place to stay. Clean and friendly staff. Breakfast was included in our fee and it was very good. We were on our way to Granada so this was a good stopping place. A good place to stay in a smaller town of the region.

Great hotel in great location to explore the área which has many interesting villages and towns.
Great staff at hotel who were friendly and helpful. Comfortable hotel and really good food.
Only 2km from Orgiva which is workable if you have a sense of adventure (a little uphill going but downhill coming back).
Overall a great stay.

Go to the Taray in the Alpujarras for a week of health and peace - but also hilarity - in an ambience of stunning natural beauty. Situated in a valley between the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada and the gently folding Contraviesa range, the Taray is a simple hacienda-style hotel: 15 rooms stretch out in extensions into fantastic gardens laden with orange and lemon trees and exotic plants. The swimming pool is huge and very blue and bordered by plants and palm trees ... and more oranges. Turtles swim in a nearby pool, and donkeys, yes donkeys, bray in a nearby pen. This year a baby donkey awaited us ...

We have been going to the Taray every Easter since 1999 and we can never wait to return. We go for walks in the surrounding hills, stopping for lunch in little whitewashed villages reminiscent of Morocco and plazas with fountains that remind you of something out of the Wild West ... Or we drive to nearby Granada on a smooth new road and visit the Alhambra and the shops ... Or we take the winding mountain road down to the sea ... where in about half an hour a variety of beaches are on offer. Some of us go horse-riding in the Sierra Nevada - the views are spectacular and the horses majestic. Or we just stay and chill at the Taray - walking around the garden, lying by the pool, or just lounging and reading on sunloungers amidst the greenery ...

The word Taray is actually the name of a local tree that grows by the rivers in the Alpujarras, originally from an Arabic word and thus reminiscent of the great Moorish presence that once dominated the region ... stunning ruined castles on hilltops still bear witness to this turbulent history.

The owner/hands-on manager, one Eladio Cuadros, is the main entertainment. Think of BBC's Fawlty Towers and you have him - he is a combination of the manic John Cleese manager and the hapless Manuel rolled into one. His English is, well, hilarious - and he is a natural comic. He is always there to tell you what to do in the area, draw you maps and diagrams to emphasise his point ... and make you laugh. He will advise you on what to eat in his lovely restaurant, which has a wide range of dishes and really friendly staff - evidence of how good it is being supplied by the large numbers of local Spanish people who come to eat there.

In the morning you wake up, open your bathroom or back window ... and see orange trees, fields with donkeys and horses, and the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Your front window is framed by plants and the green hills of the Contraviesa. If you go in the colder parts of the year - November to March - there is excellent central heating in the rustic-style rooms, which have terracotta paving and simple but tasteful furnishings. If you go around April you will see fields full of red poppy waves - and extraordinary Ku Klux Klan-style Easter parades in the nearby town of Orgiva...

Orgiva is about one kilometre up the road from the Taray, and an interesting combination of old Spanish traditions - cafeterias, bakeries, churches and pretty plazas - and a new 'alternative' element, with shops and centres offering holistic therapies and 'psychedelic' clothing. On Thursdays the market comes to town ... and there you will see everything from Africans to hippies to South Americans offering their wares.

And one thing is sure about the Taray - you are never ever stressed there and you are never ever bored ...

We stayed - with a view to booking another 10-15 weekend trips whilst overseeing our build. I called and spoke to receptionist / lady who quoted me 107 euros special offer for 2 nights. On departure I was asked for 178! I disputed this and the owner as good as called me a liar! We were made to pay up even though the figures he showed clarified that the receptionist had given me the special offer - her mistake - but he used the fact I am foreign to imply I had picked it up incorrectly. ABSOLUTELY NOT! My Spanish is very good and I have managed to book accommodation over the phone dozens of times without a problem. he turned from cheesy/ pleasant to aggressive and nasty. Stupid man has just lost himself lots of business both from us, our future visitors and anyone reading this! Go to the Alma Alpujarrena, right in centre, it isa fantastic place and best food in Orgiva. Cheap, basic and Spanish traditional but unfortunately closed winter months.
This is the second time we stayed here. First time it was freezing and the beds were tiny - we were given a twin room. This time it was much more comfortable but stank of sewage. The shower saturates the room as is just a plastic hose attachment to taps and a flimsy shower curtain with gap for water to spray through. Also, having eaten in almst every place n Orgiva many times, we ate here once and the food was terrible.
This is the sort of place Spanish people (esp its owner) think is top notch - but not if you are a well travelled European - sorry - this is basic hostel accomm. - at 30euro a night maybe good value but 89euros! what a joke.

I can only warn you to STAY AWAY. The owner was extremely hostile/aggressive to me/my wife & 5 month baby. I had to physically remove him from our room, even then he forced the door open & continued shouting within inches of my wife/baby. I physically moved him again & he said he would call the police. We packed up/left immediately. He went crazy after I asked politely if the fridge could go colder to chill baby's breast milk, and if the air con could go cooler as it appeared to not work. **Please don't risk ruining your holiday and please do not give this man your money**. This is seems to be a regular problem here if you read other reviews, I see 3 times. The 'junior suite' was v.small, dark, hot and had spiders. The pool looked milky/dirty.

After a fabulous week near Sevilla we toured the coast of Andelusia hoping to find the real Spain. After being disappointed with what was on offer we headed back inland in desperation. We found the Taray's details in a guide book and gambled that it was what we were looking for; an oasis in the heart of Andalusia that could provide a relaxing setting and access to Granada. It was all we had hoped for, tranquil, scenic and amospheric. The English speaking staff (yes you guessed it we wanted the real Spain but couldn't speak Spanish!)
were both friendly and helpfull. Orgiva although not a picturesque white town had a great relaxed bohemian atmosphere at only a short drive from the hotel,
providing a variety of restaurants at very reasonable prices. If you didn't want to venture from the hotel you could dine in the restaurant relatively cheaply. Our hotel room was spacious and clean, air conditioned and provided a magnificent view of the mountains. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and hope to return.

Situated just outside Orgiva & surrounded by a beautiful garden & olive groves. The rooms & dining room/ bar decor typical of Andalucia..... Earthy tiles, stripped wool curtains etc.
We were made to feel most welcome here - the room rates are quite reasonable, but it is worth noting that any meals are extra. Locals all eat here, so food standard fairly high & there was a daily menu change.
We stayed here off season, so it was very peaceful & the staff were all very helpful & friendly.
Also worth noting - the swimming pool is only open April til October.

we stumbled upon the Taray hotel in the Alpujarras on our way to Granada and decided to stay the night. The accommodations are in attached bungalows.Very charming - a living room with t.v. and a bedroom, overlooking the mountains.Very spanish and very nice. The hotel has 2 pools and situated in some acarage with orchard trees.Simply enchanting. We ate at the hotel, since we did not feel like venturing to the village(jetleg-you see).the food was below average, altough plentiful.
I woudld definitely recommend this place to whoever would like to spend time in the white villages of the east.

We booked at this hotel at the last minute because a reservation at another hotel wasn't honored. This hotel has 15 rooms, two beautiful pools, and the most beautiful surroundings. The staff was accommodating and helpful. The rooms are clean and nicely furnished. The only negative is that the food in the restaurant is bland. I recommend that you stay at this hotel and eat elsewhere. It is located in the Sierra Nevadas, the highest mountains in Spain, and the views are wonderful.
