My girlfriend and I stayed here during the Corona virus lock down, so we were naturally a little apprehensive about how things would work. We needn't have worried, as everything was well thought out and apart from a couple of hiccups; our stay was very enjoyable.
We had booked a Superior dune view room and were given room 415 at check in. The room was well appointed with a very comfortable bed. The balcony was a reasonable size with lovely views to the beach, sea and dunes (the dune view rooms are north facing, so only get the sun in the morning). As others have mentioned, the balcony furniture is a bit tired and the finishing of the floor could be better (rough patio slabs which end a few centimetres before the room wall, which meant that you had to be careful with the chairs, so that the legs didn't drop into the gap). Again, as others have mentioned, the bathroom is very small with little space for your toiletries and a small shower cubicle.
The swimming pool is small for such a large hotel, but we were given private access for 30 minutes each day, which was wonderful. There is a small terraced garden outside of the pool area which houses the sauna facilities. This was closed due to the pandemic, but I imagine it would be a very pleasant place to relax after a swim.
Breakfast was amazing, especially when one considers the current circumstances. We had to book a slot, so that the hotel could ensure social distancing. This was achieved by the tables being at least 1.5m apart and a tray with fresh orange juice, a cold plate of cheese and meats, yoghurt, bread and pastries, salmon, hard boiled eggs, fruit etc. was set out on our table, whilst we ordered freshly made omelette or scrambled eggs from the chef (a very friendly and helpful guy) and made ourselves coffee (which was also excellent).
The hotel is located just to the north of De Pier and close to all the attractions as well as the tram stop if you want to go into Den Haag (around 17 minutes to Den Haag Centraal).
My only concern was the lack of organisation from some of the staff. I had sent the hotel an e-mail a few days before we arrived, requesting breakfast and swimming pool time slots (as this was mentioned on their website). At check in I asked if they had received my e-mail (as I hadn't received a response) and was informed that they couldn't find the message, no apology was offered. We then requested breakfast and swimming pool slots, but when we came down for breakfast on Sunday they were not expecting us. To be fair, this was not a problem and the restaurant staff quickly arranged a table for us, without any fuss.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely return

Last weekend I have stayed at this hotel with my mum, it was time for a much needed getaway. We booked the room including breakfast and dinner for a decent price.

Before arrival I received 3 emails asking us to upgrade to a dinner package. After contacting the hotel, they confirmed dinner was indeed already included and the confusion was solved.

We arrived before 14:00 and were planning to just leave our bags, however we were informed that our room was ready and we could check in right away. The room was great! We had a lovely view and it was clean and spacious. No wardrobe though which may be a problem if you are staying longer.

In the afternoon we had booked for a massage at the healthclub. I had a great Thai masseuse. It was so relaxing and it almost felt like being back in Thailand. Highly recommended.

The first course of dinner was served at exactly the chosen time, followed by the main course and dessert around 30 min. later. The quality of the food was good. The breakfast bags were amazing and so full! It was a nice touch that the staff let you pick what kind of coffee you want, which yoghurt flavor, which juice, etc. We definitely did not miss a buffet at all.

The location of the hotel is great, opposite the tram stop and directly on the beach. Can recommend it to anyone looking to spend some time near the sea, yet it is still easy enough to reach the city.

Price rather high regarding pool, bar, restaurant closed. The private dining rooms were a Nice sollution, but the limited choise of food was dissppointing. I had An three course dinner and left hungry. A steak should be more than a quarterpounder.
The rooms were adequate, but the matrasses were too big for the bed and slided of.staff friendly

We booked 7 days with a seaview room. Only 3 stars because bathroom was very small . There are better rooms - comfort and executive. Seems to be more spacey and with better Interieur.
Breakfast is very restricted to the same things
For a short trip it might be fine but for a longer stay it’s not worth the money.
There are lot of breakfast offerings nearby - so this will be a better choice.
Service has been challenged for breakfast - as an example I ordered 3 times my
Capuccino without to get one.
Room service is good apart from the fact that we had to give them a hint about some
Dusty places behind the bed which were obvious.

This was the 5th time we stayed at the Carlton and enjoy it every time.
The restaurant is tops and the people are very helpful and friendly.
I do have one negative comment.
Any property that offers such a beautiful view ( North Sea) should keep the room windows clean.
The windows were filthy which seriously obstructed the view.
Not acceptable.

Thank you for sharing your experience with our hotel! We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We take your feedback very seriously. We want to inform you that we regularly clean our windows, but because of the sea and the seagulls, it is sometimes very hard to keep the windows clean. Pro:
+ Friendly and helpful staff
+ 1 minute walk to the beach
+ 1 minute walk to public transportation
+ comfortable mattress
+ Glutenfree bread available upon request (tasty!)
+ Dogs are allowed (We didn't bring one ourselves, but it was still very nice to see)
+ I recommend booking a room with a beach view. You will not regret it!
+ Another recommendation: Book a parking spot by calling the hotel directly (25 euros per day)

Con:
- Breakfast is way overpriced (20 euros per person) for the provided options.
Recommendation for hotel: Add soy milk, chocolate milk and most 'english breakfast' style things such as sausages, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes.
- Poor sound isolation in the room.
- The bathroom lacks privacy due to the 'saloon' style door.

I cannot comment on the Health Center since i didn't go there.

Worst hotel I have stayed in for a while. The noise in our room lasted until 3am as a club across the road was blaring music, it felt as if we were in the club!! No soundproofing whatsoever. The noise that also comes from the hallway is shocking, the cleaners are loud and any other guest passing the room sounds like they were inside! We got no sleep at all at this hotel and when we complained about the loud music to the receptionist he just told us there is nothing they can do. They would not move us room either as they said we are not the only ones complaining. The customer service is shockingly bad, the front desk staff were rude to everyone when we were checking in. I stayed in this hotel over 10 years ago and it was great hence the reason we chose to go back to it, never again!! I have complained to them directly so will see if we get a response but I won’t hold my breath!

I had read other reviews about the noise, and now I really wish I had listened. The pub opposite had music blaring until 2am so couldn’t get to sleep. Complained to reception and they simply said they had a licence until 2am so nothing could be done. DO NOT STAY HERE unless you have incredible ear plugs that can drown out very loud music.

All in all I really enjoyed my trip (if I exclude the breakfast).

I love that this hotel is very dog friendly.
I was allowed to take my dog with me. And that there were also treats for her in the room.
In addition, it was nice that I could go to my room earlier.
The location of the hotel is nice, the rooms were clean and very modern. The staff at the reception and the housekeeping were also very nice and helpful.
I also booked a parking space for my car, they are very wide and there are even covered spaces.

The only disappointment was the booked breakfast. I was unfortunately very dissatisfied on many points for the money payed.
I had already read online that there is a separate area near the reception where you have to sit if you bring a dog to breakfast. That was absolutely okay for me, even if i missed the view of the dunes and the sea during breakfast.
However, that only applied to me, that's why I felt a bit discriminated at this point. A couple was allowed to sit at the window - having a nice view at the ocean- although they also had a large dog with them. This area was declared to me as a dog free zone. And it was not because all the other tables were occupied that they were allowed to sit there.

In addition, the cheese was already quite dried on the edges, because it had probably been in the display for a longer time.
Many plates were unfortunately dirty and I had caught two glasses with a crack in them. Furthermore, the silverware for cold cuts and cheese as well as bacon and scrambled eggs were used by the guests for meat and vegetarian products, as there was no exact separation.
As I was sitting at the large table at the entrance to the kitchen, it was also very noisy. Colleagues were talking to each other privately, a "new" colleague was introduced in front of my table. And in general, they didn't take any notice of me when clearing the dishes.
In summary I was really disappointed at this point.

Nevertheless I would book this hotel again because everything else was very good for me.

I was a little worried after reading some negative reviews but I loved this hotel and would definitely return. We spent 5 nights in a family room, which seemed brand new - it was really nicely done with some lovely quirky touches and a separate area with bunk beds. The bathroom was also very nice with a walk in shower and big bath. The balcony wasn't great (we looked onto a tram stop) but we knew we weren't going to have a sea view so I was fine with that, we were also on the first floor which was handy as like others have said the lifts could be a little slow/erratic.
Every member of staff we came across was friendly and helpful, breakfast was great (with very nice man and lady making waffles and pancakes) and all the waiting staff were good too. The breakfast and lounge area are very nicely done and the hotel just has a great overall feel to it. Location is perfect for the beach and the pier etc. We loved Scheveningen and were pleasantly surprised by how much was going on, all the lovely beach bars and just generally nice atmosphere. The tram stops just outside the hotel and will get you to the centre of the Hague in about 15 minutes or so, and/or right to centraal station. One of the tram also goes via Madurodam which was one of the highlights of our trip, loved it. There is so much to do in the area, we will definitely come back and look forward to returning to the Carlton.
