In the hills above Cannes, the Valbonne plateau reveals a preserved Provence, whose landscape is covered with olive groves and pine forests. The recently renovated Village offers soft coloured rooms in Provencal-style accommodation dotted around small streets and shaded squares. Opio en Provence is both family and sports-minded, with its 9-hole golf course, 3 swimming pools and tennis courts. It also places emphasis on the quest for tranquillity which can be found in the relaxing Club Med Spa.

We stayed 1 week in July with our two daughters 10 and 12 years old. We are familiar with Club med resorts but it was our first time in Opio. I will try to give a balanced review:

Our first impression is that it is a well managed club under the direction of the chef du village Marco.

We stayed in 2 adjoining bedrooms in Romarin. The rooms are well maintained and comfortable. They are a little bit too close from the bar and the evening noise, but nothing unbearable or too late.

The restaurant is very good with local specialties and freshly prepared plates. A large choice of starters, main meals, fruits and desserts.
We were disappointed by the food in the specialty restaurant “the Golf”.

The main swimming pool is great, we were surprised by the opening/closing hours (9:00am - 7:00pm - life guard hours) but apparently it is the French law.

If I was to improve something, I would open a bar by the zen Pool and create a shaded outdoor dedicated area for the fitness classes!

The evening shows are typical of the club: good and adapted to the non french speakers. Guillaume, is a very talented dancer and entertainer.

We did the fitness classes with Emilie, she is a very good instructor as well as a very nice person.

Overall I found the GO team to be very present, agreeable and accessible.

I would like to call out the warmest and nicest welcome from Mariam, responsible for the staff at the front desk. She has been really kind and understanding all throughout our stay and she has made us feel like we were more than another client. She adds this personal touch that is really outstanding. She has organised baby sitter, restaurant for us, it has been really great to have her and made the stay even more enjoyable. this Club med is also very nice in terms of amenities and the staff overall is very well managed by the head of GO Pierre-Jean and very approachable and professional. overall a club I would highly recommend for everyone to go to with small children as the cirque du soleil is also a key activity there that makes it a unique experience.

everything is very good: the pools, the food and especially the petit club supervised by the lovely Giorgia who reassured us the first days by whatsapp when needed (very much appreciated), then the kids were running in the morning to go spend the day with her and her amazing team: Aurelie,Lola,Morgane,Emma,Carla.
Perfect stay for families with the only negative point being the cleaning the first days that were not great, which changed during our stay: our room was cleaner the second half of the week so maybe it was just a punctual problem. As everthing else was great I will give them the benefit of the doubt concerning this point :)

There were some real highlights of this stay. The food was absolutely excellent! A huge choice at every meal, beautifully presented and everything tasted delightful.

Views are absolutely spectacular and pool is gorgeous.

Unfortunately the customer service at reception is awful, and spoilt the whole experience. Receptionists were cool at best and downright rude at worst. I asked the night before checkout if my bags could be collected from my room in the morning and also double checked on the arrangement in the morning. I was simply told yes it could be done. No instructions of where / how to leave my bags. When I checked out, I kept asking for my bags and the receptionist just kept abruptly repeating ‘yes, it’s coming’

This led to a massive delay in getting my bags, and me eventually having to go all the way back to the room to get the bags myself and missing my transfer. In the meantime my companions heard (and understood!) the French speaking receptionists joking about the situation even tho they could clearly see I was in distress and panicking.

For this incident alone I would not stay here again!

Dear Lou_Spillit, Thank you for taking time to write a feedback regarding your stay in our Opio resort. We are delighted to know that you've appreciated the food, the views and the pool. We truly apologize to hear that you had issues with your bags and then our staff. It has been passed on to the Chief of Village for an immediate attention and to ensure that this kind of situation does not happen again in the future. We hope that you will give us the opportunity to make amends and to regain your trust. Kind regards,

Club Med opio has one obvious strength point: sport. Take with you all sport wears and equipment. You may be able to experience some sports for the first time, for me it was golf.

Nights shows are attractive however night dance floor is not, to my opinion.

Their restaurant stick most of the days to sea food. Burger and pizza is always there but somehow boring if you are not fan of sea food. The positive point about the restaurant is that you will have the opportunity to try many provencal meals.

The most distractive point is that the rooms have no refrigerator. So no cold beverage at room.

There is no food even a biscuit at room. To find something to eat at some specific times like 15 o'clock you must leave the room and go to bar. It is very disappointing that barely you find anything to eat. I suggest take some desserts from lunch to your room if you may feel hungry at 15 to 17.

During our stay they had no plan for teens. If you are traveling with teens don't count on teen-club. If your teens are sportive it is OK.

If you are not such a sportive family, I suggest other resorts such as Ikos or Constance group of resorts.

Responded 11 Sept 2022
Dear kfbehdin First off all, thank you for taking the time to share you experience about your stay with us at Club Med Opio. We are sorry to read that some aspect of your stay doesn’t fully meet your expectations. As you know, at Club Med, we are committed to our values of hospitality, generosity and comfort. We also strive to offer you a high-end service that meets your every need. We have noted your displeasure and are sorry that your stay has not brought you the fullness you had hoped for. During your stay, you noticed that the teen club wasn’t present for your own teen and we are sorry to hear that it was a negative point to you. The service Family is always open even if there is only one child to care for the day. However, we manage to let all the activity open for all ages and so your teen to be able to make some of the activities we offer in our resort. We are happy to read that the sports activities reach your expectations and your moments in the restaurant were enjoyable too. Thank you for taking the time to share your stay with us. Every comment is important because it allows us to improve and offer our G.M the best possible vacation. We have passed on your improvements to the service concerned so that the necessary steps are taken to improve your future stays at Club Med. We hope to see you again very soon in one of our Villages, we wish you a very beautiful day. Club Med Opio Team

Brilliant stay at Club Med Opio. It was our first time at this resort. We love the facilities here and the child care is amazing.

Everything you need is here. I read a review that some people who were English felt unwelcome here but I can honestly say this is not my experience. Everyone was happy to speak with me in English (my family is French) and we felt very welcome.

One thing we have not been used to is the arrival of lots of business guests. They come for a day or two for a conference - it is not a big problem but obviously they are not here for the same purpose so it changes the vibe slightly and makes the breakfast / lunch / dinner area very busy.

Our boys (both 8yo) had a wonderful time with the Kids club. Particular thanks to Pika, Petit Pied, Lulu Dragon, Chloe and Jeremy. Great circus skills. The tennis and golf coaching is superb. The fitness team great (thanks Emilie). Great spa, great fitness suite and classes. Food is delicious. Many choices and having Italian chefs in the Italian area is always going to be a big hit (fab pasta and pizza!).

The GM Boris was always available and asked us how everything was going so we could raise any concerns. A massive plus is that we arrived on the Saturday night and they kindly opened the Kids Club on the Sunday when it is normally closed which was a real bonus for us all. Much appreciated.

We’ll be back.

We arrived at club med opio and unfortunately our experience at the beginning was not like any other club med we have stayed at, and not in a good way. On reflection, we realise this was most likely as a consequence of a large group of men ( I estimate at least 60) that were on a work conference at club med opio.

The group was generally rude in my experience of them and dominated the general areas of the property (so that they would create their own private areas, directly or indirectly). They also seemed to have no understanding of the dynamic that is so important to a club med experience - one of respect and courtesy. As an example, I was most upset by the way they would jostle the children out of the way at breakfast to ensure their needs were met.

The dynamic of the resort certainly changed when the group departed, and our level of enjoyment increased immensely.

I realise that covid has required club med to embrace other offerings, but I do feel that there would have been many other locations for a work conference. Club med is not the right location for this.

This is, of course, my own experience but I do feel it is now important that club med opio is transparent on how it approaches this issue because we were very close to forfeiting our reservation and moving to an alternative property after 2 nights.

I would not bring my family again if club med opio becomes a conference facility catering to large groups of middle aged men.

I want to make clear that the staff at club med are just so fantastic, and I feel sorry for them having to deal with a corporate clientele rather than families and people looking for a true club med experience. I expect this is the reason they became GOs.

Just returned from a work conference— I believe our group opened the resort for the season so they were still bringing it back to life. You could see grounds work and other construction happening around the grounds. The meeting venue worked fairly well for a group of our size. I especially liked the Playground venue for the main sessions with a center stage with audience around on all sides. This set up is more intimate for the audience. The rooms were average— very basic amenities and basic comfort. The food was fine— very large buffet with a wide range of options. I thought the wood fired pizza was especially tasty and the local greens were also good from the salad bar. The grounds do have a lot of hills and steps so comfortable shoes helps in navigating— not made for women walking in heels!!

Amazing staff at baby club, we felt really comfortable leaving our six month old and enjoyed some alone time. Really enjoyed golf and fitness staff too and the food was good. The rooms and general buildings need a bit of a face lift though and the corporate events hosted at the club take away from the family and vacation atmosphere.

I stayed here with my wife and two children (aged seven and four) for a week in late May/early June. We were lucky to have some glorious weather. The highlights for us were the meals in the rooftop restaurant, with a really decent choice, and some excellent dishes. Our children loved the buffet format and having the independence to go and choose their own thing. There is a kids only pool which we couldn’t see close up, a main pool which was really good and a “Zen” pool for adults which was a very short walk away from the main centre and wonderfully tranquil. Our children loved the kids club. Their favourite things were the trapeze in the circus, the football, the swimming, and the dancing show. The GOs who looked after them did a wonderful job. I want to thank in particular two - Mr broccoli and Mr parrot. I understand Mr broccoli is about to leave for the Club Med in Brazil. Good luck to you, Matheus. I thought it was excellent value for money but having looked at the prices for July, it’s clear we got a great discount for going in the UK May/June half term. The interconnecting rooms worked well with our children and they were clean and comfortable with good bathrooms. My only complaint is that the air conditioning was very poor so we didn’t use it, which was ok at this time of year but would not be in the summer.
