We stayed for 6 days, including 3 rounds of golf in September and very much enjoyed it. The staff were excellent form the time of booking, arranging tee times to suit us. Also very friendly on check in.
Breakfast was served a la carte and was the best we had during our whole trip of a few weeks.
Originally we were in room 31 - a long narrow room with a small garden/terrace. Pleasant but very small if you have golfers' luggage. Fortunately they wished to move us as they expected a large noisy group for a party. The suite they gave us was excellent and made our holiday - thoughtful too as we would have been put off by the noise.
The only slight negative was the first evening when we went to the restaurant. they were friendly but informed us they had no menu for the evening. We were then told we could have risotto or ravioli for starters, followed by rabbit or sea bass for mains. So we had 2 courses and 2 glasses of wine plus water - it came to 126 euros, which seemed a lot for little choice and Ok food. The following evening there was a large party in the restaurant. Another evening (Sunday?), it was completely closed. So for hotel guests it's very unclear what is available in the evening, if anything.

For golfers, perhaps better to avoid weekends as there seem to be lots of club events. It's therefore difficult for guests to book tee times at reasonable times (i.e. not in the heat of the day)
All in all, very enjoyable and we would come back!

I have stayed at this hotel during 3 nights. Great breakfast, great food at the restaurant, the staff was very nice and friendly. The pool is huge and well maintained, the room is nice, the one I had with a shower. Great wifi, everywhere clean. The property is well maintained with a nice boy working as a gardener (very polite, when walking next to him, he stops his work to say hi!).
I will come back for sure

Very nice hotel in a beautiful (golf) location. Beds were good. Too bad the air conditioning had trouble getting / keeping the room at the right temperature.

Breakfast is served (no buffet) and is very extensive and spacious enough.

Dinner was very good.

We also played golf on the course at the hotel for two days and apart from holes 12/13, the course is nicely spacious with a lot of challenge due to its location in the hills. Buggy is recommended if you are not used to walking in the hills.

Nice quiet place, did not see many guests around, but lots of golfers come to play. Pool was also quiet which was good so no rush to get a lounger. Only issue is there is no pool service but there is a restaurant below from where you can order. The Deluxe rooms we had were a good size each with a large bathroom. Breakfast was good with table service. Did not have dinner in the evning but noticed some light entertainment on some nights. 5 min drive to Valbonne and other towns Cannes, Nice etc all reachable in 30 mins. Monaco is probably 45 mins away.

We have been guests for 16 years. Last year the new management cancelled our reservation without informing us. We were able to change our travel plans to suit the management‘s occupancy plan. This year they cancelled our reservation because we requested the room we have always had and in an unfriendly manner.
The hotel is great and the golf course is interesting. The restaurant had a new cook and was an improvement.
It is too bad that loyal guests are treated so badly by the new management.

Response from Roger Godin, General Manager at Hotel Chateau de la Begude
Responded 3 Jul 2021
Dear Kresky, Thank you for sharing your personal interpretation of the situation, and please excuse the delay in my answer since I was away from the property. I am so surprised by this public comment (not only on this media). You contacted me on the 8th of January 2021 via LinkedIn, and I replied the same day to you, in a detailed and courteous manner, willing to keep your loyalty to the château. You never replied to me. Please find below my answer at that time: “Dear Mr Kresky Many thanks for your message and sorry that we have to connect for such an unpleasant situation. I understand there was some kind of change at Château de la Bégude, and those changes come with new processes, which I can assure you are standards, and I must admit, were lacking previously at the hotel, although they were great in taking care of the customers. As for your bookings, I understand Véronique was extremely grateful to you and she could not speak more in positive ways regarding the great help you provided since she communicated with you last 4th of July as the Tour de France elected house at La Bégude. And as far as I am aware, she is looking very much for your next stay with us, and so all the team is, and so the Chef (he is fantastic even if the season was too short for him to express more his talent). If I look at all the communication between you and Veronique, I believe the issue comes from the fact she cannot confirm any number of rooms, not only the one you mention. Which I have to agree with her. We do not confirm the number of rooms in hotels, only can we confirm a category, especially during high and peak seasons. Since I recruited and know Véronique very well and her sense of hospitality as her professionalism, I know for sure she will take care of you and your wife once you reach the property, and surely if there is any possibility as we come very close to the date to secure the room 31, she will. I have no doubts. The other thing is this part of the hotel can be privatized as part of a compulsory agreement with potential clients wishing to organize a wedding including music, which increase the impossibility to secure a number of rooms. But as of today, we are not in a position to do so I am afraid. Please be ensure that every customer is valued, especially the one that has been loyal for so many years. May I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year, may it be safe for all of us, and give us the opportunity to meet again, most probably enjoying a glass of Champagne on the terrace of the restaurant once you are staying with us. With my warmest regards Roger » As far as I can remember, you stayed in 2020 in room 31, so I believe, although we cannot confirm a room number, we did our best to satisfy your requirement, and seemed to have enjoyed a lovely break in our property. You contacted me again via the same media on the 23rd of June, and I replied the same day, with the same information as above. You mention we cancelled your booking, which is so far from reality. A booking can only be cancelled if it is confirmed, and you never did. So you were informed we could no longer hold a temporary reservation. I believe we have been loyal to your request as the booking was held since January. Once again, you should change your mind, please feel free to contact me, you have all my details to do so, and we will be more than happy to welcome you again! With my warmest regards Roger Godin

The hotel is excellent like it has been in the past, nice rooms, clean, excellent breakfast; the staff is friendly and the location with its beautiful golfcourse is super for golfers.
The Restaurant is not like it was in 2017/18/19 the chef has been changed and so has the quality; sorry to say. We prefer the restaurants in the nearby town.

The golf course in the back of the hotel is a good one. The restaurant offers fine food. The rooms are renovated. Different views from 2 different buildings. Restaurant closed Sundays and Mondays ! You’ll have to eat in Valbonne, a short car ride away.

My partner and I went to Hotel de La Begude, Opio to attend a friend's wedding. Thankfully, we only stayed there one night!

AIR CONDITIONING NOT WORKING
First impressions: the reception was hard to find as it was not indicated and when arriving in our room we soon realised that the air conditioning unit was not working. Not a complete surprise, as the AC unit looked old, stained and poorly maintained.

POOR VALUE - OUR ROOM DESERVED 3 STARS MAX - Don't be misled by their website's pics!
The room itself was OK but would have been what one may expect from a 3 star hotel in the South of France, not a hotel selling itself as a high end 4 star luxury French riviera Chateau. We then proceeded to attend our friend's wedding reception taking place in the Chateau de la Begude.

HALF OF THE HOTEL HEAVILY EXPOSED TO NOISE FROM WEDDING AREA
The wedding venue itself was OK, although it really didn't feel like a luxury venue (similar to Ibis hotel dining halls). The food prepared by the Hotel's chef was way below what you'll get served at any average French bistro/cafe. One of the main wings of the hotel was just 10 meters away from the wedding reception area, meaning that hotel customers located in that wing could hear the loud music being played and the noise coming from the wedding all night long... We saw customers from that wing complaining and saw their bedroom light on for as long as we stayed there.

FIRE ALARM TRIGGERED 3 TIMES BETWEEN 1 AND 4AM...
Fortunately our room was in the other wing of the hotel. Having dined and danced, we got back to our room in the early hours of the morning hoping we would be able to get some rest. After 15 minutes in bed, the fire alarm went off for about 20 minutes... and then stopped. We tried to get back to sleep, despite the suffocating heat. About an hour later (around 2.30am), the fire alarm went off again. And again around 3-4am for an extended period of time. My girlfriend finally went to reception to try and get someone to fix this. There she found 3 fellow hotel customers also wondering was going on. Receptionist looked confused and said someone would be looking into it...

€239.52 FOR A SLEEPLESS NIGHT
After one long sleepless night, we got up to have breakfast. Breakfast was a buffet mainly made of very old and dry croissants. Service was OK. We then checked out and were not even offered a discount to compensate for our sleepless night. We were charged €239.52 for that one terrible night! A complete disgrace...

Answer from Begude
Opio, France
Dear M. Overgaard, First of all we thank you for your kind interest in our property. Concerning your request, we have unfortunatly no rooms with 2 separated beding space plus a lounge/tv one. The most appropriate solution would be for you to take 2 adjacent rooms and we would open the door between, but this does require to book both of them instead of one. I hope I have answered all your questions and remain at your disposal for any further information you might need. Best regards Morgan Reception office
