Aso No Shiki is a luxury ryokan, in the traditional style. There is no doubt that the food is amazing and the tubs beautiful and hot. We never had trouble getting into the tubs. Try to orient yourself to the customs of a ryokan and hopefully you can discover why there is a fire pit with boiling water in a...

We enjoyed a lot our stay here: this ryokan is nicely decorated, perfectly clean and the baths are amazing! There are 4 of them, 2 indoors and 2 outdoors, you can enjoy them privately, which is not so often the case in other onsen ryokan. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and had a really nice matcha tea and...

This inn is a short walk away from the small train station, Miyaji, which is the one after Aso station. The staff at the Aso Station tourist office is really friendly and will call the inn to come and pick you up. We had a large Tatami mat room with our own toilet/sink, small fridge, TV, small table, and heater...

We stayed one night at this charming ryokan on 10 Feb 16. This ryokan is tucked away in a quiet residential area. When we arrived at Aso station, we approached the staff from the station information counter to contact the ryokan to find out if they could pick us up from this station. We were happy that they agreed. When...

We were totally wowed by the staff's warm, personal service, sumptuous dinner and breakfast. The onsens of different themes also blew us away! Great memories for my daughter who had special dessert and a personalised memento for her birthday.

This is a small, newly built, very tastefully decorated, very quiet ryokan with super friendly staff, wonderful private baths, good food and great service. Don't expect to meet many people/staff who speak English. But they compensate by great hospitality and friendly service. The manager speaks English well and is a great host - picking you up from (and dropping you...

This timber made small hotel gives us a very warm welcome feeling from the moment we arrived the reception. The staff assist us to check in, tour us the restaurant and onsens, then show us our room, brewed hot green tea and served us the welcome snack. Truly hospitality. We took the room package with BBQ Seafood Dinner. It included...

We stayed here in May, unfortunately we the weather didn't play so nice. Mt Aso was shrouded in clouds the entire time we were there. Now, the Aso no Shiki. We had booked the half board option, and I recommend you do the same. The staff doesn't speak English--but they are trying to accomodate you. I had a note that...

We stayed here in March 2015. This ryokan was very clean, the service was excellent and the baths were all great. They have four different baths – all for private use (you just have to flip the sign to show that you are using it). We only got to try two of them but they were both great. The water...

I visited this ryokan with my family including my parents. The staff were so friendly with a wonderful warm greeting on arrival. The rooms were spacious and clean, quite standard for a nice ryokan. The dinner was very nice - we have the robatayaki courses and were not disappointed. Loads of food and nice range of drinks. The wine list...
