Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

the bay horse offered comfortable clean rooms at a very reasonable price and the breakfast was the perfect way to start the day. All the staff were very obliging and nothing was to much trouble. We will look forward to staying again.

Visited Masham on a bank holiday and this was the only place serving food!
There was a reduced menu because of Covid but there was enough to choose from.
The burgers we had were really well cooked and not dry at all as in many pubs.
The service was really good. They made a mistake as they thought our order had been taken; when they realise it hadn't they were extremely apologetic and knocked 20% off our food bill which we hadn't asked for or expected.
It was obvious they were extremely busy because of the additional Vivid measures and being the only place serving food but we well well looked after and felt very safe.
I would definitely do again when full menu returns.

We have visited the bay horse many times in the past for food and drinks.

Our last visit for food was May 2019.
I ordered the sausage and mash, no veg .
It came I cut up my sausage and it was bright pink inside obviously not cooked.
I ate the mash , when the waitress came around I explained it was not cooked.
I was given a refund but would have rather had a properly cooked meal.

Yesterday 18.9.20 we called in for a drink with our small dog.
We waited to be seated as per instructions, the young girl said table for two near the bar.
As we went to sit down she noticed our dog and said oh sorry a dog is counted as a person and the table is for two !!!!

Ridiculous, crazy , OTT list for words.
Obviously we had to leave.

So now we shall not eat or drink there ever again as will many more dog owners who bring in a lot of custom.

Get your act together bay horse !

Bring back the former landlord and landlady.

The newly re-opened Bay Horse was a little jewel in the crown of Masham. Absolutely perfect base for a weekend away. Rob and Annie are the perfect hosts and they couldn’t do enough for us. The rooms were top notch and the bed was super comfortable Can’t wait for their kitchen to open as Masham has limited food options available so you must book restaurants well in advance. I would recommend this bolt hole without a doubt but get booked up while you can

This was a great location, we visited the two Breweries and the Inn was half way between. Just a 4 minute walk to the Black Sheep Brewery and Theakston's Brewery. Lovely breakfast and plenty of it. Really welcoming

This pub is not a bad place to stay, however there are one or two issues that should be pointed out at point of booking. Namely the steep stairs to the upstairs bedrooms and it will be noisy after midnight ie uptil 3.00am. Also you do hear bar noise during the early evening. However the rooms are good recently refurbished, staff very helpful. Prices for accommodation about average and guests do come back for more return visits. I personally will not be due to the noise issues. I will be booking into the White Horse, just because of the stairs and noise issues. However they do have a fab chef.

Traditional family run pub in the centre of Masham.
The market Square is only a few yards away where there is plenty of parking and an honesty box to pay.
We were welcomed by Ann, a lovely lady who showed us to a comfortable & tastefully decorated room with modern ensuite shower room, all immaculately clean.
There was complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits, delicious muffins and a small fridge with yougurts.
We wandered back down to the bar with comfortable seating where dogs are allowed, I always enjoy a fuss, there is also a back room where they can sit with their owners to eat and an enclosed beer garden to the rear of the pub.
Plenty of local ales on tap of which hubby enjoyed a few. From Theakston, Black Sheep and Wensleydale breweries.
Also a good selection of spirits which as a gin girl pleased me.
For our meal we sat I the dining area where dogs aren't allowed.
There are jugs of fresh flowers all around which I think is always a nice touch. We chose one of the specials, home made lasagne with salad & garlic bread with sides of chips, all very good and washed down with a bottlevof Shiraz. We didn't have room for dessert so retreated to our room and comfortable bed. There are lots of things to do while here including numerous walks from Masham along the river to Marfield wetlands or a longer walk to Hackfall woods to name a couple. There are 2 breweries in the town where you can book a tour. The restaurant No Smoke is right next door to the pub which is excellent. We went the last time we were at Masham and can highly recommend. There are also several other pubs but I can honestly say this is my favourite. It is the first time we've stayed here but it won't be the last.

Booked for a weekend break for four people. We wanted a nice relaxing stay which is exactly what we got. I would have liked to give 5 stars and for the accommodation 5 stars would be accurate. We were a little disappointed that the meals available were very limited and of a takeaway type. Plenty of pizzas and burgers but just one other choice, scampi and chips. I personally don't eat pizzas or burgers so would have had no option other than the scampi which did not appeal. We went elsewhere to eat. The accommodation was excellent as was the breakfast in the morning. Rooms were a good size and very clean though not checked or topped up ready for the second night. I assume this was because of the Covid situation as when we have stayed previously that was completed. The other couple that went with us on this break felt that they would have liked to have had the supplies replenished, coffee, milk, biscuits etc. We will be back and also will the other couple we stayed with. A great weekend overall. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I am sure if we had asked the supplies would have been forthcoming. All areas were very Covid safe and advice given on first entering the building.

I’m truly sorry that we didn’t tick all of the boxes, but super happy that you overall enjoyed your time with us. The menu is limited due to the small size of the kitchen space - it’s simply not running with guidelines for us to have more than two people in the kitchen and impossible to serve our previous menu options with just two people. We all hope that one day, we can go back to “what we were”, I. The interim, were just happy to be open and operating as a business and a team. Hope to see you again.. Regards Gill

Traditional pub next to the market square where there is plenty of parking for £1 a day. The pub is following Covid-19 guidelines and feels safe. They served a good breakfast - I enjoyed smoked salmon with my eggs for a change. Evening food is restricted to basic pub food, such as burgers and pizzas. We had pizzas and they were fine. Our room was comfortable, but in need of a makeover and redecoration. The staff were particularly good and friendly.
It’s in a good location for Ripon, Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks.
