This small place was far from the description of boutique or the pictures. The room given was small, dark and inadequate in many ways. From a loose bathroom sink, mould in the shower and wash basin to torn mosquito nets & curtains. No aircon or ventilation. We got bitten lots my mosquitoes and ants and the owners cats go everywhere even on the breakfast table. I imagine this place was a nice bnb years ago but now the ocean has eaten away the beach and front garden and the place is run down with the front building completely abandon and abut to fall down. The locals use trees and sandbags to help slow the erosion of the frontage. Whilst all this is going on the price is still expensive for the area. After talking to the owner we asked nicely for a partial refund but he only gave one night back and said he had already spent our cash. We booked 5 nights in booking.com and a further 2 nights direct on arrival. We wanted out after the first night but managed 2 night before feeling we had to leave. On a positive note the cook and the two boys serving us were super friendly and nice. The breakfast was ok. We booked into Muita Patz which is double the price but worth it after this disaster of a bnb. Do NOT stay here !

My wife and I are adventurous travelers, but even so, sometimes we decide by impulse and that's what happened when we picked Oceno Atins to spend our last night of a wonderful journey of a week in Lençóis Maranhenses. Luckily was only one nicht! We had requested transfer from the so called "port" of Atins, even knowing it was very close to the pousada and it would cost 40 reais for a 2 minute drive. The first disappointment was that there were many pick ups upon arrival, but none of them were for us. So we had no choice but walk and carry our luggage (backpacks, fortunately). Thanks to a helping hand of a local, we managed to get to Oceano along the beach, exausted, due to a 13 minute walk under noon sunlight. But the biggest surprise was yet to come. Once we got to the pousada, the owner, Antonio, did not apologize at all but made up excuses, as if he was not aware of the arrival time of all boats coming from Barreirinhas (all come from Caburê and arrive at same time). My wife was really upset and it got worse when we were shown the room. Hard to describe, the pictures attached can give an idea. The place was tiny, dirty, dark and had no ventilation. We were beside the kitchen and could hear everything and be heard, naturally. We didn't dare to try dinner at the pousada, we prefered to face a walk in the dark till the village, where we had a delicious meal at La Pizza. It was really hard to sleep that night, only with a ventilator that made things worse, since there was no air coming into the place. The next morning we took off as soon as possible. The local employees were attentive and kind, breakfast was ok but that's all good we can tell. Event tough to be the only house at the beach, don't fall in this trap! It is not and never a boutique hotel.

This is a very small hotel, but I think the label "Casa Boutique" is misplaced here. If you book (and pay the price of) a boutique hotel, you expect a boutique treatment. And perhaps if the owner is around, you might receive it at the Oceano Atins (which, in case you wondered is located at the beach of the Preguiça River, but you can see the "Oceano" at the horizon). In our case he wasn't and you could feel the lack of oversight and "ownership" (i.e. care) in all places. Our rooms (which were smaller than they look on the pictures and very badly aired) were cleaned in a superficial manner and only received a proper brush up on our last day. We had two cockroaches visiting us, which we didn't take as a good sign with our room being adjacent to the kitchen.. There were two dogs and two cats roaming the small piece of land, of which one of each was rogue. The rogue dog was then mostly chained to a pole - except for the one time when we came back from a trip and he came running towards us and barking in a manner that made us fear he'd attack us and got me yelling that he should be chained again. Poor dog, his behaviour was obviously not its fault, but it got us quite scared. Breakfast was very simple: one type if cheese, one type of ham, white toast bread, cakes free of taste (excluding the good chocolate cake), a small selection of fruits that were chopped on the same plate as the onions for the omelette (a positive outlier) that could be ordered apart. The coffee was undrinkable. But worse than the lack of inspiration in our first meal of the day was having to "enjoy" it to the sound of the handymen working next doors. The hammering usually started at 7 am and only finished after our breakfast was also done. Not quite what we hoped to find after a 7+ hours journey to the end of this continent.. Oh, I almost forgot this: For our travel day on which we had to leave before breakfast hours, we received a "travel breakfast" consisting of bananas, a few bottles of water and leftover chocolate cake (which was still tasty, to be fair). Dinner was not much more of a treat either with the serving time of 1,5 hours - I literally fell asleep at the table - for an ordering of (3x) fish & chips (i.e. fish fingers and fries), vegetable soup and fish with mango sauce which all were grossly overpriced. We only made this mistake at eating at this "Italian" restaurant once and had more pleasant experiences at other places in Atins. So, overall what could've been a great stay at a cosy place unfortunately turned out to be quite a disappointing hotel experience. We made the best of it by staying outside and enjoying the amazing landscape of the beautiful Lençóis Maranhenses. But I would not recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a lovely "boutique hotel".

Great spot by the beach in Atins. Good food at the restaurant at night. But very small / dirty room (far from the pictures on Booking), especially the bathroom (by the way, no hot water and no pressure). More or less friendly staff (the boss didn't say hello when we were there) but the main issue is that they seem not really efficient ! Eventually the payment is done by transfer which is not practical at all.

We stayed at Oceano Atins 4 nights in the large suite on the beach. WOW! Words cannot describe our delightful experience at this gorgeous and romantic place. The suite used to be Antonio's private lodgings - it is filled with beautiful furniture and art as though out of a movie scene. The shower is very simple, almost no wifi and mobile phone service, no air condition (there is a fan and if you keep doors open you'll get some breeze) but who cares in a paradise like this. Antonio, the owner, was charming, gentle and extremely helpful. He introduced us to the best tour guide Sergio who end up organizing for us horseback riding to remote places in the National Park and all other transportation (via boats and vehicles) we needed. On our first night we were too tired to go out so we had dinner at the garden. The meal was delicious (very talented cook!) and romantic. (The other nights we ate at what in my opinion is a top class kitchen - CEU ABERTO restaurant - you must take the crab cake and the coconut dessert - the best in the world). All the staff were really nice and every wish was fulfilled with the utmost, sincere goodwill. It was the diamond in the crown of our 3 weeks travel in North Brazil. We could stay in Oceano Atins forever! It was a dream we didn't want to wake up from. Thank you and looking forward to coming back soon!

Imagine yourself in the middle of nowhere, in a really quiet place, many km far from civilization. We felt like we have found an oasis when we reached Oceano Atins and met lovely Irany, who received us with a delicious fresh made juice. Do not expect air conditioning and television in a place where electric energy is precious and hard to get (it is quite normal to have some hours of the day without it). Expect to find nature in (almost) pure state - including some treefrogs in the bathroom, it is true. They don't bother at all and if you are not prepared to deal with it Atins is not the place for you. Unbelievable, though, you can find great sheets and towels here, much better than average in Brazilian hotels. Not to mention cutlery and cloth napkins on the nice table within art pieces, coconut trees in the garden and details that make differences, like himalaya salt available for dinner. Amazing.

Arriving in Atins by boat from Carubé we were picked up by a ATV who took us to the beach entrance of the Oceano Atins. We were greeted by the owner with fresh coconut water and he made us feel at home right away. We knew right away that this would be our new secret gem that we wouldn't want to tell the world about. But how can you not share this? The Oceano only has three rooms and each one has been decorated in a different way. It felt like arriving in St.Barth's long before it was developed (think Calypso). Atins is considered the first town in the Lencois Maranhenses, so we were able to take guides who drove us only a few minutes away to the dunes and walk us to the dunes and lagoons close by. The night we "explored the town", meeting some locals and drinks at a close by bar. Keep in mind that it is a very small fisher town that is not lit, so a torch would come in handy to not fall into the puddles that have blocked our paths a few times on our way home. No cell phone reception. The beach is vast and beautiful and you can walk for miles without running into anyone. We took a 1-hour boat ride to Barreirinhas and continued onto Sao Luis airport from there. For more pictures IG nandabear27

The best option to stay in Atins today and the only one with direct access to the beach (ca. 50 meters through the garden and over a little dune). The rooms are very simple for the price (no aircondition, no TV, little space), but you will pass your time outside on the beautiful veranda. Therefore it is not recommendable to take the cheapest room since this one has no access to the veranda. It is difficult to walk the streets of Atins (deep sand), therefore we often had our meals at the pousada. They serve it in front of your room and you feel very private. Food is good, though expensive (60 R$ for a dinner for two without drinks) and with little options (two kinds of fish or camarao). But they will serve you also a mixto quente or salad and fruits only. The beach is very beautiful, but has no infrastructure (no barracas, no food and drink, no shadow), so we went there only for swim or for a walk and passed time reading or relaxing on our Veranda. You have options for passeios to the Dunes, to the famous Restaurants of Luzia or Antonio, for watching birds and so on, you can ask directly in the pousada, prices are normal (mostly 50 R$ for person). For getting to the pousada you should call in advance and arrange for your transfer from the point the boat will let you out. They come to take you with a four-wheel-bike (the only way people do get around here). If you want to walk (which we did, because we didn't know better), you get off the boat and walk the beach right handed until you see a little wooden door at the dunes. This is the entrance to the pousada-garden. But it is not recommendable with all the luggage, especially on midday's heat. For getting to Atins from and to Barreirinhas, you can go by boat or by Toyota. For getting to Atins we arranged with a passeio-Agency in Barreirinhas, they offer Passeios on the Rio and you can easily get on one and be left in Atins. We payed 60 R$ per person with the Agency called "Alternativa". Depending on the passeio you're on you have several stops before you reach Atins, so it can take a while but is also interesting. The direct journey by boat via Rio Preguicas takes 1:20 hours. There is also a Toyota car which travels two times a day between Barreirinhas and Atins, the journey takes 2 hours. Toyota leaves Atins at 4 am and 1 pm and is very cheap, you can ask in the Pousada to arrange that they pick you up (I don't know the times for the other direction). You can also get your personal boat, this is expensive (200 R$ for the boat including all persons), but you can take off any time you like (depending on tides only). We chose this option for our return and got it arranged directly in the pousada.
