We camped there for 3 nights this week. The pitch was on a very gentle slope but was easy to peg out and you can park next to your pitch. The roads on site were recently tarmacked and the caravan pitches had new slate shingle.

The toilet/shower block was refurbished last year and is probably the best one I've ever seen, with 3 large showers. The block is kept impeccably clean and the bins outside are emptied regularly.

It's more expensive than I'd usually pay but the site location is totally fantastic for walking, the steam railway, the water sports and the town centre. We'd never tried kayaking before but will definitely be doing it again.

We were made very welcome by the regulars on site, the people of Bala and the 2 ladies who run the reception, especially Janice who is a fantastic host.

Ok, if you have young kids then this is probably not the place for you as there are no ball games allowed and there's no play ground, but it was perfect for my 19 year old son and I. We've made memories that we'll treasure for many years to come!

I stayed here with my pattern and our small cocker spaniel - we stayed in one of the Gypsy Huts for 3 nights and had a fantastic stay!
There was a new lady who had just started and she was so helpful along with the 2 other ladies who answered all our questions and made sure our stay was pleasant!
The hut itself had a pull out bed to make it into a double with lots of storage space in the cupboards underneath and under the side seats. There was a kettle and heater already in the hut along with tea, coffee & sugar and 4 electrical points. Our parking space was right outside the hut which made it easy to transport everything.
Bala Lake is a 5 minute walk from the site. The lake is beautiful and there is a company set up there which you can hire boats, paddle boards and kayaks from at reasonable rates.
The town itself has many dog friendly pubs and all were set up for social distancing.
Highly recommend staying here, the facilities were very clean and can’t recommend the staff enough - gave us lots of advice for things to do near by!

I can’t speak highly enough of this campsite, everything about it was perfect including the weather ☀️! Just a few minutes walk to the lake which we spent a lot of time swimming and paddle boarding in. The washing area was kept very clean and tidy and the two ladies in the shop were so friendly and lovely, taking time out of their day to share local tips of places to visit. One of the highlights apart from the lake was the white water rafting we did which was a 3 min drive away and also the meat delivery the campsite arrange delivery for! The sausages and chicken kebabs were to die for, so much better quality than supermarket bought ones. Everyone we came across on the campsite was friendly and respectful, no rowdy groups and everyone seemed to be quiet after 10.30pm, had some of my best nights sleep ever which is unusual when sleeping in a tent! Would definitely return with our family,

There are pros and cons with this site. The welcome was warm and friendly and the site is perfectly located close to the lake and the town of Bala. It has a lovely little shop with essentials. The manager kindly leant me an electric lead as mine was not long enough. Although our welcome was warm, I was disappointed to be informed that our pitch had been given to another camper because they did not like the slope. We were therefore given the pitch which was unwanted. It would probably have been better not to tell me. The pitch was fine and we did have chocks for our van in any case. That being said, the pitch was right next to the toilets and bins, which did smell a little and were often overflowing with refuse or rubbish stacked at the side. We were disappointed that the drinking water tap was right next to the foul waste disposal area, which should not really be the case. The main issue for us though was that half of the toilet and shower cubicles were shut up, apparently because of the need for social distancing, even though these restrictions have now been lifted and a cubicle would mean that you were socially distanced in any case. This reason does not stand up anyway because all the cubicles for washing were open. The reason for closing every other toilet and shower cubicle could only have been to reduce cleaning, using Covid 19 as the excuse. Cleaning was only carried out once a day which was not adequate, particularly as the site was full. Bins were overflowing with paper towels by early evening. There was but one soap dispenser for the toilets and this was empty for a lot of the time we were there, even just after cleaning. Rather ironic considering the apparent focus on Covid 19 and social distancing. The issue of half the toilets and showers being closed for social distancing rather defeated the object, as it resulted in people regularly queuing for both. My wife said she went to the toilet in the middle of the night and there was no toilet paper. The toilet paper dispensers also need to be replaced as they tear off one sheet at each pull. We did not let these issues spoil our stay and my motive for writing this review is that we would like the management to address these concerns so that we can hopefully return in the future.

Stayed for 2 nights in our campervan . Very pretty little park but with some noise from the road. Walks were lovely and just a short stroll to Bala. Welcoming e-mail advertises free wifi on up to 4 gadgets but when we enquired in the office we were advised that there was a charge for wifi of over £5. We felt that as it was advertised as free and we had bothered to enquire about it, the reception should have taken some action to resolve the issue for us.

This is a lovely site, very well manicured with good spacing between pitches. My wife and I stayed for 3 nights with our two dogs and had a great time. Although the site was full, social distancing measures are in place, shower block has restricted facilities due to the pandemic and this can be an issue because of the number of tents on the site, who don't have their own facilities. We used our own in the caravan. The site is next to a very busy road, frequented by lots of motorbikes and there is some road noise, however, it didn't bother us. A short stroll from the site is the Bala railway and sailing club. Llyn Tegid (Bala lake) is around the corner and has a shallow, quiet pebble area for the dogs to play on and get into the lake. A little further, (about 10 mins) is the centre of Bala with many pubs, chip shop, Indian restaurant, caffis and a craft ale tap house called Y Stori which although pricey was very good. We will be back to this site when all retuns to normal but you will have to book well in advance as it is very popular.

Just got back from a fantastic weekend staying at Pen Y Bont caravan site. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The lake and Bala town is an easy walk from the campsite.
The campsite itself was very clean and well laid out and the shower block was amazing - spotless, roomy and looked brand new, we loved the shampoo and conditioners in each of the shower cubicles!
Thank you for a great weekend, we will definitely be returning in the near future.

Just had a fantastic couple of nights at this site. Beautiful kept grounds and clean facilities. The walk to the lake is 5 minutes max and about 10 minutes into town (would recommend paying the butcher a visit). All the staff on site were friendly and welcoming would highly recommend this little gem and hope to visit again soon.

We stayed in the glamping pods at the top of the site (booked it through Ho Seasons).

Really nice. Very well equipped with everything you would need. Not much storage space though for your clothes - in fact there isn’t any. You just have to fold your clothes up and put them on the side. The hot tub is good. There is room for a square one though so not sure why they’ve gone for a two person one?? And also could possibly do with investing in some privacy screens or something like a flower decoration wall to act as said privacy screen because there is a road right behind the pod we were staying in.

Parking is available outside your pod (only room for one car though).

Toilet and shower facilities on site are really clean and tidy. On site shop.

Bala is a 10 minute walk away. Not much there to be honest. A few pubs, a Chinese takeaway (cash only), an Indian restaurant/takeaway, a supermarket and that’s about it. Got water sports at Bala Lake.

We really enjoyed it. Nice little break away. Sun was out everyday which is a bonus. It’s peaceful. We were able to explore quite a bit of North Wales.

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We appreciate your suggestion for somewhere to store clothes and installation of a privacy screen, and will look into this further in the future. With regards to the two person hot tub, the Shepherd's Hut only sleep 2 guests (with one small child at a push) hence the choice of a smaller hot tub. Equally there is only one car parking space per Shepherd's Hut as that is usually more than adequate for a couple or small family. We do offer additional parking by Reception if absolutely needed and will always strive to accommodate any requests. We hope to welcome you back to Pen Y Bont in the future, and hopefully we will have made some of the improvements suggested.
