Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another fantastic stay. Our room was beautifully prepared with added little personal touches to make us feel welcome. This is a fabulous setting for R&R with the superb countryside and local attractions nearby. Hall Farm provides a quiet location with minimal light pollution. Sally’s breakfast is outstanding. The choice of beautiful freshly sourced ingredients and the comfort of a farmhouse dining room sets you up for the day. The yellowest egg yolks I have ever seen!! The warmth of the greeting and attention to detail speaks volumes about Sally’s outstanding success with her B&B. We return year on year to our favourite B&B.

Coming from Australia we asked Sally for the bank details to pay as per her booking policy ‘payment must be paid 14 days prior to arrival’. She would not give details, she wanted cash on arrival. We had to cancel 2 days before arrival as we both had Covid. The b&b cancellation policy is 100 days. We were informed that we could still go as they have no Covid restrictions, I find this negligent in inviting guests into a b&b where we would be mixing in the dining room on a share table(as they were fully booked)knowing we could pass it on. We were Ill and in bed for 5 days, during this time my husband received several emails from the b&b, inviting us to stay, complaining that gluten free food had been purchased and that they would start legal proceedings if we didn’t pay for our stay. If Sally had given the bank details when requested she wouldn’t have had to persist with emailing us. We have since paid the balance(after requesting the bank details again). Requested twice for a receipt and then posted on social media before one received.

Response from sally hemingway, General Manager at Hall Farm Bed & Breakfast
Responded 2 Jul 2023
I’m very sorry, you feel this way, the reason I said you could pay when you got here is that all my other overseas guests have asked to do this as they find it easier. All my Uk guests pay in full a month before there stay, & from now on I’ve put systems in place for overseas guests to make it easier for them to pay before there stay to avoid this problem in the future, I was only trying to be helpful. As regards to saying you could stay, with you coming from overseas I figured you needed to stay somewhere, and was happy to put you in a totally separate wing of the house where you would not of come into contact with other guests and had a separate entrance & dining area, I wouldn’t of put you where you where going to mix with other guests. Once again I apologise if you think you haven’t had good service, & I’m sorry you weren’t able to stay.

Beautiful rural location with fabulous cross country views. Beautifully furnished rooms and and host Sally was very attentive indeed and extremely friendly but stayed in the background when necessary, The whole house was immaculately clean and very well furnished and very well appointed generally and the breakfasts were cooked beautifully. My wife was particularly surprised with her green and chocolate coloured hens eggs from Sally's specialist hens. Howard Castle , (House, Estate, Gardens and excellent Farm Shop} is literally 15 minutes away by car. There is lots to see in the Area. Kirkham Abbey ruins, Town of Malton with its farmers market are but two.. York itself with its myriad of historical attractions is about 30/40 minutes by car There are Llamas and/or Alpacas just along the lane from the house. Patrick Collins

We spent a week at this B&B as a base to explore North Yorkshire, and we were not disappointed. Lovely en-suite accommodation with stunning views in a fairly remote hamlet, but well placed to access the A64, and convenient to reach a multitude of interesting and varied locations. Sally is a very helpful and welcoming hostess, and provides a wonderful and varied breakfast each day. If you require advice or guidance, she is happy to offer recommendations, but other than that, leaves you to enjoy your stay. The home-made cakes left in the room on a daily basis are wonderful with a coffee after a long day exploring. We will definitely be coming back, as we have so much more of the area to see. Excellent standards throughout and great value accommodation.

Excellent accommodation in a beautiful, picturesque country setting. Very good food perfectly cooked. The highlight was early breakfasts as I was attending the Sheepdog Trials nearby. Home baking in the room was a real treat. Nothing was too much trouble. Good recommendations where to visit in the area. Joanna

We stayed here during an exceptionally hot July; Sally our host was most thoughtful in making sure our stay was comfortable. Her breakfasts were quite incredible - berries picked from her garden, eggs from her chickens; as well, she provided tea and home-made treats in the afternoon. Her suggestions on where to go for dinner were rewarded with satisfaction. We also enjoyed sitting in her garden after a long day of touring.

Just returned home after spending 3 nights at this wonderful Farm House. From the moment you step foot into the hallway you know that you are in for a treat. The host, Sally is so lovely and welcoming it’s like meeting up with an old friend. The location is stunning and so peaceful. It’s ideal for the tourist trips into York, Helmsley, Castle Howard etc… and then after a busy day, returning to the farm house to relax and absorb the views and tranquillity whilst relaxing in the gardens with a cup of tea and one of Sally’s fantastic freshly baked treats which she leaves in your room daily We stayed in The Wolds View and it certainly was a “room with a view”. The bedroom and ensuite were immaculate and had everything you needed along with a few extra added touches. Breakfast is served in a lovely bright dining room overlooking the fields and is the most amazing breakfast. All produce is either home produced or sourced locally. Freshly laid eggs, delicious fruit salads, homemade preserves… everything tastes so nice….nothing is too much trouble. Sally really puts her heart and soul into her Farm House and it is the most delightful Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed in. After a few days away, it’s usually nice to get home but on this occasion, we were both sad to leave and really hope to return soon. I could go on and on praising this lovely find but, if you stay here, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Sally for a wonderful few days and we hope to see you again soon

Sally is the most wonderful host. I was treated like a queen from the moment I arrived and nothing was too much trouble. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say I had the two best nights’ sleep of my life. The attention to detail is outstanding; this is the cleanest, most friendly, beautifully catered B&B that I have stayed in. Sally’s brownies are to die for! The breakfasts are delicious. I was here with work this time but will return with family soon. A real gem in the Yorkshire countryside. Highly recommend.

We have stayed here quite a few times and just wanted to say it is still as good as ever after a long gap because of Covid. To be greeted with tea and cake after a long journey was wonderful. Sally is a very good host.
