We stayed for 2 nights and booked with Gourmet package which included 2 nights stay, 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts. It was fabulous !!! GOOD VALUE !! Isabelle & Michel were there the whole time to ensure guests were comfortable and everything that we needed were met. Warm welcome and express check-in. Staff are bilingual speak good English and French. Room #17 we stayed for our 10th wedding anniversary is big, comfortable and with good view. Dinners and breakfasts in Eleanor restaurant were one of the enjoyment in this trip. Michel, the chef, custom a special dinner menus for the 2 nights and it was high standard Michelin star to us. Hotel has free parking, swimming pool and spa. We highly recommend this hotel and restaurant to anyone passing by or visiting the Dordogne department. It is in a strategic location to cover Bergerac and Sarlat. And Monpazier is a quaint town, really charming and staying in Hotel Edward 1er perfect the trip!! A must "stay" hotel and a must "taste" restaurant. Overall score 11 over 10 :)

This nice hotel is situated in a small castle with all modern facilities you need.
The rooms are not that big but all with good working airco’s.
Our room had a shower in the bathtub and the room was on the second floor and could be reached by stairs only.
The restaurant in the hotel is amazing and we recommend you to book in advance.
Next to that the hospitality is amazing too.
No one of the staff will pass you without asking you how they can help.
If it is about the very nice pool, a drink, where to go sightseeing, other restaurants in the village (and making a reservation there if you want). Friendliness all over. We recommend this hotel.

From the minute you step into this cool, elegant hotel you are made to feel like old friends returning. Isabelle is such a fantastic host, anticipating any queries or requests. We booked in for one night but it simply wasn’t enough so we stayed another but could easily have stayed the whole holiday and used it as a base. We ate in the courtyard one evening, served by friendly Dutch waitresses and the food was very special, created by Michel the husband of Isabelle. I was almost loath to review this as it could make it very difficult to book in again which we certainly intend to but really this couple and their team are everything you hope for in the hospitality field and they deserve it.

The hotel is stunning and in a good location for exploring the Dordogne and other surrounding areas. The town of Monpazier is literally just around the corner and offers a few good restaurants, boulangeries and other shops. At the hotel we found the room to be clean and staff were very friendly and happy to help with tips and advice on places to visit and restaurants to eat at. The restaurant at the hotel offers excellent food but the menu is limited so you cannot eat there many nights.
In summary, thoroughly recommend this place to stay for either exploring the area or relaxing by the pool.

We have spent 7 nights in Hotel Edward Premier and it was an absolute delight. The hotel is small and cosy yet has everything to offer that a bigger hotel would. A large pool with a great, sunny terrace outside, a Spa and massage offerings, a fantastic restaurant Eleonore where you can enjoy lots of local products and a beautiful lobby where you can have a drink, play a game of chess or read a book perhaps. The hotel rooms are very clean, spacious and we had a fantastic bath. The bed was good and we slept all week like babies. Followed by a nice breakfast with lots of different options to chose from, even the homemade pie. Going up the stairs is like walking towards your room in a small castle! The staff is very nice and the owners do everything they can to offer you a very nice experience. It's a very personal experience having someone take good care of you, even warning you about limited availability of seats in the nearby restaurants. And then the hotel is really close to the Bastide of Monpazier: it takes you not even 5 minutes to walk to the Bastide where you can find the shops and the small alleys where you can pet the village cats (if they let you). All in all a fantastic experience and if I will not buy a small home there I will definitely spend all my nights in Hotel Edward 1er! Thank you Isabelle and Michel!

An excellent hotel. Izabel (receptionist) is 110%, so attentive and making sure we had everything we needed and more. The room was excellent and we had far reaching views over the countryside. Great outside area too with a nice sized pool. The restaurant (again) was excellent. We only have ONE recommendation and that the room needs a better shower, a modern electric unit (Recommend Mira) the mixer taps is a pain as soon as you get it right someone somewhere changes the water pressure and you have to stat again. We would definitely stay here again and again.

The Château Hotel Edward 1er is beautifully done to every detail, little jars of snacks on the tables in the salon, where you can enjoy a book or a drink. The restaurant Eléanor (for the lady of Aquitaine) is outstanding, The hotel is owned by the chef and his wife. She is darling, and constantly on the move caring for guests. Is it dinner? She will come by your table to hear about your day. Is it 7am and you're on your way to breakfast? She will greet you cheerily in her bright voice as you come down the stairs, and give you travel tips.
The Edward 1er is just a block or so away from the town center. It's a beautiful medieval fortress town (bastide) with walls still surrounding it. We went to the marché and found some great pants, and of course the produce, cheeses, and local foie gras were all present and amazing.
We stayed for 9 days, and there was no armoire or set of drawers in the room to unpack into. They actually moved a chest of drawers upstairs from the spa for us to use! Watch out for the wily toilet paper holders. They're set like spring traps and can go off and fall apart to the floor if you're not careful. I do wish there were wash cloths. I like to use them in the shower and for face cleansing, but I used a hand towel instead.
We often lay under an umbrella at the pool and enjoyed one of the local wines. Total hedonism.
This is an outstanding place in a dream town. Breakfast tip: the hotel offers this at 20 Euros plus per person. However, if you go to the boulangerie up the street, you can dine on amazing pastries and have a café crème.

We're quite surprised by all the positive reviews this hotel has. Based on these, we decided to book 2 nights (180€ per night) to finish our 10 day trip in the area.
The welcome at the reception was polite and quite nice. What a shock when we discovered our room ; being small is fine, but this is definitely the poorest value for our money we've ever seen, and definitely not worth 4 stars nor 180€ per night:
The room (11) has a small window directly giving on the breakfast / diner area - we asked to change as we wanted to at least have some privacy, and clearly the twin bed option with beds at each end of the wall was not part of the rooms advertised on the hotel's webpage. We had a couple of surprises, including a cockroach on the bathroom floor. The next day we were moved to room 14 across the corridor. This one had a normal window, but the bathroom was a sore sight and looked straight ou 1950s ; mold around the bathtub, a toiletseat literally next to the shower, stains on the walls (see pictures)....
It's really a shame, as the owners of the hotel seem quite nice, however the rooms we were given, are neither 4* quality, and clearly overpriced even for the season. We feel like we've been made fools of, and will never come back nor recommend, quite the opposite.

Dear Mrs and Mr Marchal, Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings both in French and in English following your recent stay at the Chateau Hotel Edward 1er. You are right to say that the reviews of our hotel are quite complimentary and the charm of this private mansion also contributes to this beautiful experience. Our rooms are all very different from each others and out of the standards of the traditional hotel chains. Thus, the Chateau's windows will not have the same size as on a recently built hotel or building, and the Architectes des bâtiments de France are the guardians of this Heritage. So this point cannot be changed, as it would deteriorate the charm of our mansion. On your arrival you were allocated the Twin bedroom booked on our system, please note that you had made this mistake in your direct booking (via Reservit) - hence your disappointment to be offered a Twin room (2 single beds) on check-in. Being present at the reception, and the hotel being full, I could not propose a Double room (double bed) and I am sorry for that. But I proposed a second room that you visited immediately and that you approved. I have thus moved another customer's reservation in order to satisfy you at best. I am surprised to read that this room did not suit you once again. The space between the 2 twin beds is normal and there is no standard for the space between 2 twin beds. I am sorry that you found the space between the 2 beds too big. The comments about the cleanliness of the carpets, the cockroaches, the bathroom, do not correspond at all to our standards as well as to the dozens of opinions of our previous customers. I have noted this point and will check with my team. I thank you for your note on the welcome at the reception, the food proposed and the professionalism of our teams. Indeed, we are passionate about our job 😊 Hence, the experience offered at Château Edward 1er is unique, and reflects the essence of our 19th Century Manor House. For your next visit, do not hesitate to contact us directly in order to personalize your stay as much as possible, being in the choice of your room or the restaurant menus. We will always be happy to do our best to make your stay unforgettable. Also note that by September, our SPA will be "enriched" with a sauna and sports equipments to perfect your experience. Looking forward in welcoming you back, Isabelle & Michel FREDRIC

Really relaxed atmosphere absolutely nothing too much trouble . Amazing food in the restaurant and superb breakfast best scrambled eggs ever.
It’s good base to see the region from and probably one of my favourite hotels ever.
Isabelle arranged a bike for my husband from the next village and that was also a highlight a guy who fixes bikes and rent out a few , he really provided a lovely service too. I had to work one day and attended a virtual all day meeting so the WiFi is robust. Isabelle offered to get coffee for me when she saw me working, really thoughtful couple.
We enjoyed Monpazier which is sleepy apart from Friday’s when the market brings it to life and gives you a glimpse of how it would have been in medieval times. We did find one livelier bar at the brewery with great local beer and a delicious burger as a contrast to the hotel restaurant.
