It felt like a bit of a dice roll to go to Soul & Surf. I had some holiday to use up, fancied learning how to surf (I was a complete beginner), and had no other reason to go to Sri Lanka. But it was a perfect holiday - just the right balance of time to chill, and no time to be bored. Everything was planned and laid out for us, so you don't need to think. It was a cool group of travellers with a sense of adventure in common but otherwise from different countries / age brackets / genders / experiences. Another thing I hadn't known to look forward to - the food!! It was delicious. Thanks to every single member of staff who created the perfect experience for us all
I am at a loss as to how to describe S&S without sounding like I am echoing what every other reviewer has already said, be that as it may, it needs to be said again - S&S is unbelievably amazing. It is quite difficult to decide on what my favourite part was - the expertly designed rooms and common areas, the friendly staff, delicious food or the classes and delightful instructors? The fact that I have to debate this tells you all you need to know about what a wonderful experience it is to stay one week at S&S. When prepping for this review, I was quite surprised that there are actually some out there with negative things to say about S&S. I guess the one difference between me and those people is that I am right and they are wrong. My wife and I had a blast and truly hope to not only go back to S&S in Sri Lanka but hopefully be lucky enough to visit their other locations soon.…
I don’t say that lightly, but this was amazing. Rooms were clean, comfortable spacious and the bathrooms were great. Some of the best surf instruction I have ever received. The fact it’s a fixed time retreat allows them to give loads of extra lessons like the theory of surfing, video analysis which makes a Huge difference. Food is stunning, exactly what you would expect from a retreat. Few things have been as enjoyable as doing yoga in the morning overlooking the jungle. The founders, Hayley and Raf go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and the attention to detail is brilliant. I could not recommend this place more and am counting down the days until I go back!
Really really great experience for surf and yoga, as well as the wonderful staff and beautiful settings! There has been some concerns with travelling to Sri Lanka following the attacks but we felt very safe.
My husband, 2 kids and I stayed in Awimbawei villa near Soul and Surf this Christmas for 5 nights and had the most wonderful time. The villa is decorated beautifully, the pool fantastic, aircon much appreciated for aclimatising tired children and we just LOVED the outdoor bathroom aspects - so creatively done. Madu made delicious breakfasts ad kept the house all tidy for us which was such a treat and we loved the monkey jam! It was great to be able to walk to Soul and Surf for other meals and hop in a tuk tuk to go further afield. Ellis gave us a superb Surf lesson and Blain was excellent at answering my questions and even sorted us a welcome hamper. His english was excellent so it made it so easy. We all loved the jungle setting, just beautiful - plus the monkeys, kumudu dragons and giant frogs were a huge bonus for the kids. A very special trip for my 40th birthday. I would move in tomorrow if i could!…
