Must visit in Srilanka. The property is beautiful and the staff hospitality top notch. We stayed there for only one night but wish we had booked longer. The hospitality is top notch Kasun, Harsha, Navod, Arun went above and beyond to make every wish of ours come true. Navod makes the most amazing cinnamon ice tea. Even made us a cinnamon cocktail on request. We had reached quite early in the morning and even though our room wasn't ready, they were so kind to give us another room for us to rest, till the time our booked room was ready. We had all the meals here and they were all delicious! Some were really unique like the chilled watermelon soup and the lake Koggala prawns. Overall, we had an amazing time here and the only thing we felt was that we should have stayed for 2 nights! Thank you team Tri!

As much as I’d love to give a 5-star review, I believe that there is some feedback that need to reach the higher management at this venue. This is in no way an attempt to diminish how helpful the staff were. It's just an honest opinion that needs to be heard. Room Readiness: It didn’t look like our Villa was prepped properly before we arrived. a) There was a WiFi router in the room that was not even meant to be for our room. It was from a different room but no one had changed that around and brought the right one back. b) There were mosquito repellent coils provided, but the stand was already broken and there was no matchbox to actually light it with. c) Only 2 rolls of toilet paper provided to me and my fiancée, even though we were staying 2 nights. With how difficult it is to get room service and the limited timeframe they operate in, maybe there should be more provided from the start? I asked for 2 toilet paper rolls the next day and only got one. Pool Cleanliness: Yes, it’s a great pool with an amazing view (If you are super tall - lots of trees in the way). But 2 main issues here; a) Our pool was definitely not cleaned before we arrived. We found a lot of toilet paper in the pool. A lot was stuck to the drain at the bottom of the pool, but most pieces were just floating underwater. b) Since the location is in a very secluded area, there is a lot of wildlife. Especially, the lizard called ‘Land Monitors’. They love covering themselves in mud and then sunbathing. Only problem - one of them decided to come chill in our pool in the morning covered in mud. When I mentioned this to the staff and asked what their cleaning process was like, they just said they will let the others know. I do not think that these pools are thoroughly cleaned so be sure to have your hazmat suits ready when jumping in the pool. Adding extra chlorine to the water is not going to keep it clean. There should be a better process set by the management to ensure pools are kept clean. Someone is going to be using that pool after we left and they will be unknowingly swimming in a pool that a muddy lizard swam in. Questionable Management Decisions: This was the big one for me. a) The resort has this policy of not providing guests with tea and coffee sachets so they can make tea by themselves in the room. They ask you to contact the restaurant so they can make a “fresh batch” for you and send it over. But the problem is, the restaurant is obviously not 24/7 and they usually operate between 7am and 10pm. So if you ever wake up early to watch the sunrise and the wildlife or stay up late to stargaze, you can’t have any tea/coffee. Best you can do is have some water. Even then, you have no kettle, so all you can have is the filtered water that they give. I really do hope their higher management sees this because this just feels like a money-hungry scheme. The prices for these rooms are not on the cheap side, and I feel like they are trying to provide this unique service which is not working. It’s simply an impossible service to manage because you are restricted by staff hours and restaurant hours. There are many companies that create coffee, tea, sugar and cream sachets out of recycled paper, so they really need to look into providing guests with that. Your room’s high prices include this personalised service but it’s available less often. b) Now onto the bar charges and how they are calculated. A standard alcohol drink is 50ml, but if you require additional shots in the drink, they charge you on 25ml brackets. What’s the problem here? Well, a 25ml extra shot costs over 75% of a cocktail/drink that already has 50ml of the same alcohol. An extra shot should be an additional std. drink (50ml), but you are better off getting 2x cocktails and having them together. The excuse given to me was that the price of cocktails were not updated. But that is an easy cop-out. Your extra drinks should be using the same brackets set by Responsible Service of Alcohol and they should be 50ml. Furthermore, an additional shot of just alcohol should not cost more than a cocktail itself because the cocktail has other ingredients added with the alcohol. Inconsistent Breakfast Menu: The two nights we stayed, I ordered the same breakfast but I got different items with it both times. It was the Eggs Benedict, and on the first morning, I just received the muffin with ham and the poached egg. Turns out, I was also meant to receive a fruit platter, sausages, bacon and mushroom with it. That never came! I found this out because I got all of that the second morning and questioned the staff why it was so different the morning before. My fiancée also didn’t receive her fruit platter. Room Cleaning: My parents were staying in a Lake Villa by themselves and it turns out that their room was cleaned while they were away from the room. This is not the end of the world, but you are provided with a door sign to tell staff whether the room should be cleaned or not. This was never hung out, so it’s questionable that the staff decided to clean the room when we never put a sign out. The process should be very simple, only clean the room if a sign is put out and it asks the staff to clean the room. I was luckily already in my room when the staff came around so I told them not to worry but staff should really not be walking into other rooms when none of the guests are in there. This happened in the Lake Villa my parents were in and also in the Water Tower room my brother was in. Inconsistent Messaging: When you first come to your room, you will find a welcome note by the resort owner/manager that welcomes you to Tri Koggala. This is a nice, personal touch and it gives you details about the services they have at the venue. The note mentions the spa and the library that you can visit. The only problem? The building with the spa and the library was closed due to renovations when we stayed. We found out about this the hard way when we tried to go to the library. It’s not very difficult to update the existing note or print an additional note that makes it clear to guests that some services are unavailable during their stay. I totally understand a building being closed to renovate it, but I’d like to be informed about it when I come to stay. Not even the resort manager that showed us our rooms mentioned this. A little information goes a long way!

Response from Robert Drummond, Owner at Tri
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Kushan I'd like to thank you and your family for coming to Tri. I'm happy to hear how much you appreciated our location and found our staff friendly and very helpful. All feedback is welcome and I'm sorry to hear you felt the hotel fell short of expectations on occasion. Our manager Shane recognised his error in not mentioning the closed library at check-in and has been trying to contact you in person to apologise. It is now open again but we are sorry for this mistake. Your comment about bar pricing is similarly well noted and shared with the F+B manager, who is indeed re-doing pricing as mentioned at the time. The most important issue as stated by you was what you perceive as insufficient room service, sadly based on false assumptions. Morning tea/coffee in your room is most definitely available. If you want it at or even before dawn you just have to ask the night before. You never did. Waiters are in any case on duty at the bar from 6am, but you didn’t call. Kettles are available for guest rooms on request, but you never requested. There is a phone left by your bed with the numbers of the bar, front office even the duty manager who has it at hand all night in case of need. If any of these these issues had been raised we would have immediately provided what was requested. It is true our in-room facilities are not identical to certain other hotels, most notably the absence of mini-bars on sustainability grounds. I can assure you our pools are very regularly serviced. The maintenance log has been checked and yours was cleaned prior to arrival. It is noted you did mention some tissue in the pool on the morning of your departure, likely blown in during the night, and this was removed. Something as unusual as a water monitor in the pool was not mentioned to anyone, even the manager as he said goodbye to you. This has never been witnessed by me or any staff member in eight years. Nonetheless your pool has been fully cleaned and the water changed. On other matters, you are correct that you had a different wi-fi router in your room. The regular one had developed a small fault during pre-arrival checks and so had been replaced by an identical one in full woking order. You refer to a missing fruit platter at breakfast. Whilst there is a first time for everything we note this was not mentioned to anyone at the time. I can assure you that Eggs Benedict the world over does not include sausage or bacon, so you were not ‘meant’ to have got more on the same plate. If the waiter brought you the extra elements on the second day it would have been because of a remark made. We fully accept and welcome all comments but please remember that providing excellent service is a two-way exchange, and that without an issue being raised with any of our team it is impossible for us to provide what is desired or to react to what has happened. Wishing you and your family all the best. with kind regards Rob Drummond

This is one of the best boutique hotels in Sri Lanka that you can go to. Its a lovely 11 villa property, around a 2 hour drive from Colombo. There is a beautiful view from around the hotel, most appreciated from the pool deck. Its serene and tranquil, and a treat to walk around the hotel for a nature-lover. The food is personalized and amazing, and there are many delectable and home-made specialties novel to this hotel, their buffalo-milk cheesecake and king coconut jelly are two of many. The standout feature amongst all would be the service of this hotel. The Manager Mr. Shane personally looks into everything and is very accommodative. The guest relations officer Miss Roshani is extremely kind and courteous. Thanks to all the other staff - Harsha, Dileesha, Dilshan, Chamod and everyone else, for their ever friendly and cooperative approach. If you are looking for a boutique type hotel not too far from colombo, do not hesitate to go ahead and visit the Tri Koggala, you wouldn’t regret it.

Our recent stay at a stunning location left us feeling awestruck. The lush green surroundings were absolutely breathtaking, and taking a leisurely walk around the resort was a joy. The highlight of our stay was sitting on the balcony and watching the sunrise over Koggala Lake - it truly felt like paradise. The rooms were beautifully furnished, and the staff was incredibly helpful. I highly recommend this place - it was truly an unforgettable experience, and I cannot wait to visit again with my family. The only area for improvement is the food quality, which could be better.

Tri by Amaya is a beautiful hotel. Perfect location, perfect rooms, amazing views. But the staff deserve a special shoutout. They are super efficient, kind & helpful, AND will literally give you the clothes off their backs to make you happy! We were getting dressed to go for a wedding close by, & my partner had forgotten to bring his belt. One of them took out his own belt & gave it to him. (It was a bit of a high-tech belt & took us half an hour, at midnight, slightly inebriated, to figure out how to take it off 🤓). They got us a nice car with a lovely driver, Koggala Ajja, to take us for the wedding & bring us back, too. Our breakfast was amazing, with the beautiful view of the Koggala lagoon to entertain us.

Tri by Amaya is one of the best hotels I've been to. I came with my wife for our honeymoon. When we came, we were greeted with a really friendly member of their staff who checked us in. We were welcomed with their amazing welcome drink (will not mention what it was) and was informed that we were upgraded to the suite). Inside we were greeted with amazing views and stunningly beautiful landscapes. Our room had an amazing view of the lake and their pool amd food was simply to die for. Perfect for a honeymoon. Don't forget to try out their amazing activities.
