Upon reading some of the harsher reviews of this place I was a little worried after I booked it for a weekend away for our 20 year anniversary, but I honestly don't know what people have to complain about? We spent 2 nights in Isallt Guest house. Cute building in a quirky little town surrounded by huge mounds of slate and mountains, bang opposite the railway station and across the road from a shop. Very warm welcome when we arrived and help carrying our bags up to the room. We stayed in room 3. It consisted of a decent double bed, TV, toilet and shower room, and tea making facilities. The room was comfortable and clean, and had free WIFI with a great signal. Both mornings we had a little breakfast bag waiting for us in the communal dining room consisting of cereal bars, muffins, fruit juice, and other goodies. We paid about £150 for 2 nights and thought it was great value for money. Yes the shower was a little bit rubbish, and yes the town itself is a little run down but for the price.... it's brilliant! A lovely little guest house and a great base camp for a weekend of hiking and exploring the stunning surrounding area.

We loved our stay here at Isallt. A really warm welcome from Richard, our room was exactly what we needed for a 2 night stay. A great location for exploring north west Wales, with so much within an hour or so drive. No cooked breakfast which is made clear when booking but the packed breakfast was perfectly adequate for us. We were able to use the dining room for a takeaway as plates, knives and forks are provided for anyone to use. The fish and chip shop is about 2 mins away and was fabulous! All in all a great stay and we are already looking to come back next year!

A very typical 3* guesthouse. Our room was large and comfortable with a big comfy bed. Breakfast bags were more than enough to satisfy. Cleaning of rooms could have been a little better (eg bathroom doors, dusting of skirting boards, cobwebs on ceiling) but I might be overly critical as I'm a cleaner myself so please don't let that put you off. Plenty parking and a nice little outdoot and indoor dining area where plates, microwave and extra water is provided. The village is a little deserted with a lot of buildings unoccupied which is really sad as every local we met was so friendly. Which leads me on to the host of Isallt Guest House - Richard. By far the best host we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. He's helpful, approachable and friendly and has loads of handy tips for visiting the surrounding area. We will be returning to this guest house in the future.

Lovely place to stay. The host was very welcoming and friendly. The room had everything that was needed. The breakfast bags were perfect, a little bit of everything. We ordered the snack boxes for our day trip and they were perfect. A fantastic little spot to stay, as it is close to lots of points of interest in the area. Would definitely stay there again.

Just returned from a great stay at Isaalt. The guest house is perfect for a break and not far from Snowdon. Our room was big and comfortable. We had tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer, towels. There is an iron you can use. We were greeted by Richard who was very helpful on advising which places to visit and where to park. There is a dining room with plates and cutlery you can use if you order a takeaway. There is a terrace out the back with tables and benches you can use. Breakfast was good, made up in a takeaway bag early in the morning. We also ordered a picnic lunch that was ready for us to take in the morning which was also nice. There is a couple of little supermarkets, cafes, pubs and food places all in a few minutes walk. Richard was very friendly and helpful. We will return and definitely recommend.

Richard greeted us personally, he showed us up to our room, a basic room, but it was great for what we wanted, a kettle, t.v, en-suite. Overlooking the local shop which was quite handy, a quiet road. He supplied us with a breakfast bag, available from 5am, which again was great. There is a dining room, but no dinner was available, however, we had use of a microwave and plates, cutlery etc. there are a couple of takeaways in the town, we could take something back. This location is great for the Ffestiniog railway, smack bang next door. There are some excellent walks up the old slate mines and mountains especially the waterfall and a lake halfway up the mountain, which was amazing to see. Richard gave us a map. I can’t stop thinking how great the walks are up the mountains, we can’t wait to go there again…but just to reiterate this is a guest house, not a hotel, but Richard will look after you….

Blaenau Ffestiniog is perhaps best described as "Quirky." However for a few days away after Covid, and for the purposes of visiting a very good friend of mine, Isallt Guesthouse was the only option that I could find, another place in the town has altered it's model of accommodation - but for the purpose of wanting to put your head down after a busy day then it looked like the perfect place. Upon arrival, a warm welcome from the owner, who explained about the local attractions and the area, plus showed me the room; however the room was boiling as two electric radiators were left on, they can be turned off but it was sweltering in the room. The beds are also old and for anyone over 6ft, do not expect to get a comfortable nights sleep on an outdated single bed, instead expect a lot of sleeping on the side. Breakfast here is another strange one, with a breakfast bag, containing fruit juice, cake, yoghurt, fruit etc which is perfect for if you are heading out walking, but surely it would also be nice to see other breakfast options included. Another thing that I noticed, was some work needed doing, there were bits that were slightly "unclean" the bathroom was not the cleanest and dust was on top of the Television, around the edges is where the cleanliness could do with being improved, although after I got back one time, I found a toe nail on the floor, which was not the nicest sight. Yes it is simple and effective as a place to get your head down, but it needs some work, modernisation perhaps that is not over the top, but would freshen up the place a bit more.

We were very disappointed with our weeks stay in Isallt Guest house. We received an email TOO Late for the option to cancel , if we were not happy about the breakfast in a bag . We think Covid is being used as an excuse . We can go into restaurants / shops / bars etc and sit down and eat ! We thought it was also a coffee shop ( as advertised ) BUT it isn’t . The room ( 6 ) in the attic , is the family room. We booked this so we could have a larger room. Very tired furnishings ( a child size wardrobe ) ONLY one bedside lamp - which Richard did rectify - but thought we were both odd for asking ! There is however a fridge & microwave . It was clean , thank fully . Extremely noisy road, opposite the shop traffic, lorries and street cleaning at 6:40AM . I know that is not Richard’s fault - but guests need to be aware . Sorry , but we will not return and will not be recommending.

Lovely place in a quiet town, surrounded by beautiful Welsh mountains! Very comfortable room, although I missed having a window. Staff extremely friendly, offered loads on tips and suggestions of places to see and things to do. Parking and breakfast included. Also for a small fee delicious hamper for a picnic.
