Detailed Reviews
So many times I go away on holiday and think "I must write a review of this place" but never get around to it when I get back from holiday and work/home life takes over again. However, the Pyrenees Cycling Lodge was such an incredible place with fantastic owners (Niamh and Mark), that I really want to make sure other people know just how good this place is.
The location of the PCL is fantastic being at the start of multiple awesome cycling routes - the Hautacam, Tourmalet, Col D 'Aubisque via Col De Soleur. It's also in the most picturesque and peaceful traditional French village.
Our double room with the balcony was just incredible. The views were totally amazing. You can literally see the mountains when you're lying down! Definitely go for that room if you can. While it was hot during the day when we were there, the temperatures do drop at night and there was a handy fan to keep you cool, so there were no issues there.
The food prepared by Mark and Niamh was superb. Exactly what you need after a long day of cycling. Mark's special porridge at breakfast gave me the energy to tackle all the TdF climbs - not sure I would have made it up otherwise! The dinners were also great. A special mention is needed for Niamh's incredible chocolate brownie which is probably the best thing I've ever eaten in my life. You're not going to go hungry here.
The final thing to mention is the warmth and generosity of Niamh and Mark. They went out their way to help us and give us route recommendations but also gave us space and privacy to enjoy our meal and the surroundings. They were absolutely the perfect hosts, and we are grateful for everything that they did for us.
Also, just a quick note about Covid - this wasn't ever a concern for us because there was great social distancing and everything was super clean with hand sanitisers etc & recommendations to wear masks in communal areas.
All in all, this was a perfect place for a cycling break and I'm just sad that we couldn't stay longer. If you're hesitating about booking, please don't, you won't regret staying here!

Thanks so so much Shona & Joe, for the fantastic lengthy review. We really appreciate you taking the time to do this and spread the good word about us, so thanks a mill! It was great to meet you both and such a pleasure to have your company around the Lodge, we always enjoy a good chat & laugh. The view from the double room is quite something isn't it...you can go out climb the mountains and then come home, relax and look at them.;o) We're so glad you made it to stay with us & we hope it brightened up a bit of a crazy year for you. Haha, yes the brownie is quite a hit with people, I'll send you the secret recipe..;o) We really look forward to seeing you again sometime. Best of luck with everything. All the best Niamh & Mark.

How we enjoyed our week of cycling in the Pyrenees, where we were guests at Mark and Niamh's Cycling Lodge! Mark and Niamh turned out, besides being owners of this cozy lodge, to be avid cyclists. On the first day, after a warm welcome, they immediately thought along with us about a suitable trip for that afternoon. And on all other days they always gave us good advice, based on weather conditions, distances and of course altimeters.
The meals were also excellent! In the morning, a tailor-made breakfast, with a choice of scrambled eggs or Mark's famous porridge. And the evening meal was always a surprise to look forward to; a delicious and varied three-course dinner.
We had a spacious room with a balcony, a neat bathroom and plenty of storage space. In addition, the accommodation offers space for a bicycle cellar, a cozy garden with various seating areas and an honesty bar for a drink after cycling. The lodge is located in a beautiful village, which it is recommended to walk around in the evening.
But what has stayed with us most, besides the beautiful surroundings with great cols of course, is the hospitality of Mark and Niamh! They really do everything they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible and show a lot of interest in the experiences and stories of their guests. In short; an amazing experience!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do the wonderful & thorough review Margot & Herman, we really appreciate it! It's great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us and in the area, the location is quite superb for cycling! You had the perfect length of time in the area to explore every corner of the valley, conquering every col around and even with a side trip to Spain & not forgetting your evening walks (some hikes..;o)...it really is amazing what you can do with a weeks stay! I'm sure you needed a holiday when you got home..;o) It was a pleasure to meet you both and we loved having your company around the Lodge...one of the things we love is the chat & laughs with guests. We look forward to when we can welcome you both again. In the meantime I'm sure you'll keep on cycling. All the best Niamh & Mark.

I had a great time in the cycling lodge. The owners made me feel very welcome and there expert local knowledge was a real help to me. The accommodation was perfectly located for cyclists attempting some of the TDF cols, it was clean and the food was outstanding each day. They also supplied a wide range of cycling routes for all levels of cyclist. I would highly recommend this accommodation. Many thanks Niamh and Mark, hope to see you again soon.

Just stayed 6 nights (Aug 2022) at Pyrenees Cycling Lodge on a dream bucket list trip to ride giants of the Pyrenees.
The location is perfect for the large number of climbs in the valley making them all achieveable.
Mark & Niamh are superb hosts from the welcome to the sad goodbyes. For me the family style meal times are brilliant as i was a solo guest. Great laughs and new friends made. Shows how good it is when you have repeat guests and people from all over Europe.
I would 100% stay again if / when i am coming to the Pyrenees.
While the rides are not guided - the knowledge of the area and routes is huge. Even down to pinpoint locations for water fill up points. GPX files readily available. Mark does a daily / regular weather updates so you choose the best direction for any given day.
Menu was for me top notch - nothing i didn't like and portion sizes are proper "cycling sized".
Oh and that Banana porridge for breakfast - nom nom.

Thanks so much for the fantastic review Greg. It was a genuine pleasure to welcome and host you here. It was a great week with other guests from Germany, Belgium & Ireland. We love how the place brings people together and as you say as a solo traveller, the family style meals are such a nice way to start & end the cycling day. It makes us smile when we see people roll out together as well. We're glad the banana porridge fuelled all those epic rides you did...you certainly ticked off that bucket list. We look forward to welcoming you gain some time. All the best Niamh & Mark.

I organized a Pyrenees cycling adventure with group of 12 cyclists from the west coast. I couldn't have selected a better venue for this event. Not only was the location perfect for riding the iconic TdF climbs, but the hosts at the lodge are absolutely wonderful people. The lodge is very comfortable and the food was fantastic. Mark and Niamh will go out of their way to meet dietary restrictions and fuel all riders for any day of cycling one could imagine. Their knowledge of all of the cycling routes was invaluable and our group was blown away by the continuous support throughout the week. If you are looking to ride the Pyrenees, look no further than the Pyrenees Cycling Lodge!

The Pyrenees Cycling Lodge is a fantastic place to stay and Niamh and Mark are wonderful hosts. It is difficult to imagine a better base for a cycling holiday. The location is ideal if you are planning to cycle the many famous Tour de France climbs nearby. Niamh knows all the climbs and can give advice on the best routes to take and Mark's mealtime weather forecasts are not to be missed.
Mealtimes at the Lodge provide the X-factor that makes this such a unique and enjoyable place to stay. The food is excellent and the family style atmosphere at mealtimes is special and makes for great conversations and sharing of stories and experiences.
Thanks Mark & Niamh for being such great hosts and for providing such a lovely setting and creating such a wonderful atmosphere. It really was a pleasure to stay here and we will most definitely be back again soon.

Our cycling group of 23 had the entire lodge booked and we could not have been treated better. We all ate together at the dining table and Mark and Niamh produced wonderful meals for the entire group. All of the riding was just a short distance away including Soulour, Aubisque, Hautacam, Tourmalet, etc...with many other options if these are too daunting.
The nearby villages and sites are gorgeous and very historical and within walking distance. The lodge is very comfortable for downtime with chairs outside or a quiet reading area inside.
Lodge is well kept, rooms were clean and private, and just extremely well done. Cannot wait to go back!!!

Just wanted to write a few lines to thank Niamh and Mark for making us feel so welcome. This is my second visit, some ot the groups third and first visits. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like family and immediately settled into our stay. Our bikes had already arrived and we were quickly briefed, before settling in. Dinner and breakfast were very pleasant experiences filled with laughter and banter between us and with our hosts. Niamh shared her wisdom of the routes we had selected and Mark would brief us on the weather and what to be prepared for, equipment and clothes wise. Coming from a hospitality background, I would highly recommend the lodge to all cyclists and hikers, this lodge is centrally located and perfect for your adventures. Many thanks Niamh and Mark, hope to see you again soon.

We had the pleasure of booking a stay at the Pyrenees Cycling Lodge and enjoyed a few days of hiking in the high mountains. The hosts Niamh and Mark are exceptional not just with their outstanding hospitality, but also their knowledge and information. Being keen cyclists and hikers themselves they were able to make some great suggestions for where to go and what to see, taking in account the daily weather as well. The food during the stay is also another highlight, made fresh on the premises each day, Mark's infamous porridge for breakfast saw us fuelled really well for the days activities and was a real fan favourite! The dinners were fresh and provided a great variation from one day to the next. The rooms are great and comfortable and the views from the lodge across to the mountains are really breathtaking. You really appreciate being right in the mountains. Highly recommend.
