The Good!

The Chaweng Beach Hotel is at the northern end of Chaweng, opposite The Lyara Beach Hotel so the location could almost not be bettered for convienance, that is if you insist upon staying in Chaweng!

The first room I was shown was very nice, clean, tidy and modern, all in all a good choice for 1700 baht per night.

However, the lack of a lift and the 49 steps that was required to get to the room made it impractical, not that I am either old or imfirm, simply that returning in the wee small hours a little prehaps the worse for wear might be just tooooo much for this soft London Boy!

I was then shown a sucession of rooms on the ground floor, all of which were nicer and consequently more expensive. I eventually settled on room 109 after two further changes as the room was positioned between the road and the Hotel generator and therefore offered the best compromise.

It is worth mentioning at this point that my procrastination was beautifully handled by the management and was certainly appreciated by me. Sadly, it is very rare that I have ever stayed in the first room shown regardless of the hotel class or name, unfortuneltly a little moaning and further negotiation seems par for the course where ever you stay in the world, shame really!

Room 109 (see pics) was bright, clean and perfectly acceptable for 2400 baht per night for 6 nights, good value really!

The Bad!

Very little to say here, except...No matter how careful you were when having a shower whilst standing in the bath, the whole of the bathroom floor would end up soaked which meant you used some of those nice white towells to mop up the floor, just a design fault really as the water had nowhere else to run but the floor, still annoying though and ultimately avoidable with better thought and planning.

Overall.

I like the location, I liked the room and I liked the staff; would I recommend The Chaweng Beach Hotel...Yes!

Will I return to Chaweng Beach?
No, this was my second visit and will proberbly be my last. I made the mistake (for me!) of revisiting a place which I tend never to do, on principle; life is simply too short and the world too big to seek safety in familiarity, IMHO!

If you really must stay in Chaweng and you don't want to pay silly money i.e. 5000 baht plus pn, then the Chaweng Beach Hotel is an excellent choice.

Regards
Phil.

The room was nothing special, far from it, but for the time of year and location I think it was excellent value. The staff was also surprisingly friendly for this type of establishment. I visited several hotels, and I assure you this is not always the case so congratulations and thanks to them!

That being said, the room was fine and the bed was comfortable (I think I was upgraded based on their Website pictures, but no one ever confirmed this). Sadly, despite requesting a room in quiet location, it remained very noisy due to drunks coming in at all hours of the night and making a LOT of noise so be aware of this if you decide to stay here. Since the rooms contain basically nothing (see below), there is a lot of echo and noise when said drunks make noise at all hours of the night or when maids do pretty much the same in the daytime.

Besides a fridge, the room contained basically, well, nothing at all. No Kettle, coffee, or any such extravagance. It is basically a no-frills hotel, the Air Asia or Ryan Air of Chaweng hotels. The room was not dirty, but there is no serious undergoing cleaning effort happening either. In addition, your room will not be cleaned unless you put out a sign (which is something I do not mind at all personally). A fresh coat of paint and a painting or two on the empty walls and this hotel could actually look very fashionable, but it appears that this isn't their primary purpose. Then again, the price was pretty good for what you get and for the location, so I certainly can't complain.

Overall, the staff made all the difference and are probably the reason why I left on a positive note!

We only stayed here one night before flying from Koh Samui. Nice small hotel not far from the beach. Clean with good sized bedroom and excellent bathroom. Adequate set breakfast served in the small dining area at the front of the hotel. If you intended to stay in Koh Samui on a budget this would be good as you only have to cross the road and walk down one of the lanes or the side of one of the big hotels to get to the beach. We booked because it was near to the airport. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Have to say though that I would not like to stay in this area of Koh Samui as it was a bit like Benidorm. We had come from Koh Phangan, the next island, and had stayed on a much smaller quieter beach, this was quite a shock. Not the fault of the hotel, it is just the area. There were huge hotels all round the beach.

This is a great hotel property. The rooms are comfortable and the grounds are nice! It has a lovely pool and massage service beachside. My favorite thing to do here is to bounce back and forth between the ocean beach and swimming pool. Breakfast is really good and the staff are all very nice and friendly. It is situated in a great location with many shops and restaurants nearby. This was our second time staying at this hotel and we will probably return again soon.

One of their employees called "Nam" stole a huge ammount of money from us and - when caught - refused to pay us back. There was nothing for us to do.

The hotel as such is pretty basic and adequate, and comes with breakfast. I stayed there during the new year weekend so could only book the standard room. I was afraid of the size of the room. Surprisingly enough the standard room is pretty spacious. I had friends staying in a deluxe room which was not very different, except that their room had a huge window facing the street whereas standard rooms have a small window facing the back of the hotel towards an alley. Location wise the hotel is well situated. A 7-eleven across the road makes things extremely convenient. I think the housekeeping staff are told only to tend to the rooms when there is a "make up my room" sign on the door. The idea that the default setting for the staff is "do not disturb", we did have to go up and down a bit to get bottles of water and some new towels.

On our last day, we had checked out to catch the boat to Koh Phangan but had to return due to a thunderstorm. Although the rooms were not available, the staff did let us keep our bags at the reception and offered us towels (soaking wet due to the thunderstorm). The staff were extremely courteous towards us as we were loitering around the lobby. Overall, a good experience. The only down side is that the wi-fi isn't free, even for the hotel guests. But highly recommended hotel.

We had a short stay at the Cheweng Beach Hotel as when we arrived extensive building work was in progress and ultimately we moved to the Melati hotel. For the two nights we were here we stayed in individual bungalows. These are poorly lit and a bit dingy although are very secluded and not overlooked.
The Cheweng Beach hotel does sit on the busiest road on Koh Samui complete with tacky shops and fake Rolexes, Pizza Express and Starbucks. If you want bustling, hot sweaty stalls selling clothes, food and other items you’ll love this location.
The beach was disappointing as it is sectioned off and you can wade out a long way and still be up to your knees. No waves or swimming here. For that you would have to walk down to the busier public part of the beach. The beach attached to the hotel is marked off so that guests are not harassed by sellers although they still try their best.

It's a decent hotel to stay near Chaweng Beach.
I would suggest travellers hire a bike and take a round trip of the island. Food of this hotel is not that great for Indians. It has open pool and restaurant.

We were 7 of us stayed at this hotel. It was very welcoming. They arranged a mini van to pick us up at the cost of 1200 bath from the pier. The van guy wasn't very friendly. Arrived at the hotel it was great. Had a nice dinner at the hotel restaurant. I would suggest the hotel have better breakfast in future. But it wasn't a big deal fo us, we had our breakfast near the London bus opposite the hotel. It was fantastic. Their coffee was awesome. Anyway I will definitely will stay at the hotel again. It near to ice bar only 1km walk. Also nearer to Ark Bar you can walk to it. We stayed here for two nights and left to Lamai. The hotel book us a van it's the same guy who pick us up from the pier. He wasn't very friendly. I hoped he hotel look into this issue. The van was very hot and he didn't stop the van near the hotel and also pick us up later than the promised time. This doesn't real happens in Thailand mostly. They always on time. Other than that the hotel ppl were very nice and sweet.
