Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay here was perfect just for the cheap price we paid. It was very clean and spacious which is great for two people getting ready. There was a safe in the room, staff were friendly and we felt very safe. The only downside is that there were a few bugs in the room which made us feel uncomfortable. But besides that we had no problems!

Greeted by a not so warm welcome, my partner saw a cat wrapped up in towel which was clearly ill, one of the ladies then sat next to it slapping it on the ears, the poor cat!! I was mortified. There was no lift and we had to climb up 3 flights of stairs to get to our room, struggling with the suitcases, no help whatsoever. The bathroom was soaking wet where the cleaner just washed it, my partner almost slipped over, so immediately went downstairs to enquire. No apology. As the evening came we went to check to find everything was safe before leaving to which the patio door wasn’t locking. I went downstairs to find there was a different lady who was polite and understanding to which she gave us an alternative room which was allocated ground floor and much bigger! Funny that! The whole experience at this hotel was appalling and wouldn’t plan to go back anytime soon!

NO LIFT only stairs to get to all rooms, not good for large/heavy suitcase/s. NO BOTTLED WATER IN FRIDGE. Large room appeared clean upon arrival, however the A/C even at 18C was not really cold, so I checked the filter and appeared not to have been cleared for years. I cleaned the filter but no improvement. Opened the fridge the ice compartment was completely full of ice (you couldn't even remove the ice tray). No They said they would put on roof to defrost (but instead put on landing outside room - which was not a problem as larger pile of bath towels to soak up water) it took over five hours for the ice to soften enough to remove the two extremely large sections of ice). Then we put back in room. There was no additional pillows available when requested. The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Then the cable went out so had nothing to watch on TV that advised they had lodged a service request and should be there the next day, advised ok. Next morning after we had been out for they day came back to our room to find sheets had not been changed and the cover folded in quarters at the foot of bed. Bath mat had not been changed. When ever we saw housekeeping, they were continually sitting down and either watching movie/video or Internet on their phone. Cable was still not working, offered us another room but declined due to only stairs. We then shortened our stay at this hotel and changed hotel to another hotel nearby which also has a lift.

This place was very clean and such good value for money for the location and how nice it was. We actually stayed extra days here and it was surprisingly quiet for how close we were to bars and restaurants.

We came to Koh Samui for the first time and my girlfriend spent a long time trying to find a really nice budget hotel but in a good area. We came across Chaweng Palace and the pictures on booking.com looked ideal. We booked a superior double room with a double bed and bath. We arrived about 3pm in the afternoon to be greeted as normal and shown to our room. After a long day, this is not what we wanted to walk into. The room was still dirty from the previous guests and waiting to be cleaned so we were told to leave our stuff in the room and come back in an hour which wasn't too bad as we were hungry. After an hour or so we came back to find a very disappointing room. The walls were filthy and the room damp. When we went into our superior bathroom (which looked good at first glance) we came across: 1. A broken glass shelf hidden under our open sink 2. A bath that did not fill up after 1/2 hour of filling because of a faulty plugs I no bath 3. A shower head over the bath that pointed into the middle of the bathroom and only about 7inches off the floor (looked like it had been bodged about 3 )times. We also had a "balcony" that was something you'd see a in a back alley full of dirt, and bugs with a great view of the back of a massive billboard. We complained about theorem (and we never complain but my girlfriend was in tears) we were shown 3 other rooms or told to pay for 1 night and leave immediately (after we had paid for 5). We opted to stay in a triple room with lots of space which seemed the cleanest but even that still stank of damp. We looked for 2 hours to find another hotel but there weren't many available so reluctantly opted to stay. The lady behind reception (possibly the manageress) was helpful enough but did not like our complaint. Obviously standards have slipped greatly as we see no relevance to the "palace" reference. Overall the hotel is in a great location for Chaweng but needs some serious reservation and customer service training. Not worth the money. (Sorry for bad quality pictures) Picture of red bed sheets is what the room should have looked like.

Absolutely awful hotel, we arrived back from our night out to find we had bugs all over our beds! We spend 30 minuets looking for someone to talk to, when we found a security man he couldn't do anything and was in no rush to move us or get in contact with a manager. So we move all our stuff to the lobby as we could not stay in a bed with bugs all over it. At 5.30am we finally get a new room!!!!! Next day we see the manager, she tells us that it was our fault we had bugs in our beds and was the rudest most unprofessional woman I have ever come across! Not once did she apologies and we were not given a refund for the night where we didn't get into bed until 5.30am! Absolutely disgusting experience and the so called 'manager' was rude, aggressive and told us that bugs are in all hotels in Thailand!

We stayed here for 3 nights and our room was full of ants all over our beds floor and back packs. When we complained about this we were told "not our problem". We then had an issue with the bathroom with a pipe that lead into the shower continuously leaking with what smelt like sewage causing our entire room to have an awful stench. We complained about this and again were told "not our problem". The staff we very un-helpful and we every time we did make a complaint they would cut the power off in our room. I would advise people not to stay here.

The chaweng palace is a pretty simple establishment, some renovations done, although in poor fashion. The best part about this hotel is the location, it's close to the main strip and within walking distance to several shops, convenient stores, and restaurants. The room we stayed in was huge but a lot non-utilized space in both the sleeping areas as well as the bathroom. In the bathroom there was an extra space that may have been an area for laundry and just seemed to be an open area that would collect water after showering. Another thing about the bathroom was the black mold that was obviously building up around the shower and water heater, I personally didn't mind all too much and I was lucky enough the girls I traveled with didn't mind either but is still a health hazard. The stay overall was decent, the service was friendly, and to repeat my title, it ain't pretty but gets the job done.
