The rooms and resort are clean, the few staff you can find are friendly and they are trying their best to do a good job under the circumstances they are given. The showers are cold and the toilet constantly blocks and no amount of going to the front reception changes this situation. The phone in the room doesn’t even work! Room service, forget it. Wait service by the pool was extremely hard to come by which was disappointing but dinner service was truly awful. Dinner the first night there was only 5 tables occupied. Service was almost non existent, with us virtually having to beg just to get drinks service. We then waited over an hour for a few of our meals to arrive, none of them coming out together, with the waitress then informing us at that time that one of the meals wouldn’t be coming AT ALL because it was too bad to be served. It obviously wasn’t the poor waitresses fault as she was trying her hardest, but it is among the worst food service I have ever received. The manager on duty assured us that it was just a one off and service would be better the next night but unfortunately the only way we were able to secure good service on New Year’s Eve was to ply the wait staff with lots of cash to make sure we were looked after. This SHOULD NOT have to happen at a supposed five star resort. Another shocking discovery was the fact that our door keys, which SHOULD only be able to open one hotel room can in fact open any room in the resort. This happened by accident as we are a party of 10 with 5 rooms between us and one of us accidentally used the “wrong” room key on one of our other doors. When it opened it we then figured out that all of our room keys were a master key to all the other rooms! This I find absolutely appalling and frightening. I dont expect to be waited on hand and foot when I come to a resort, but I do expect a five star resort to be a five star resort. Instead I have found a resort with no service, no security and room amenities that are more miss than hit.

Such a wonderful spot and lovely hotel. The beach is beautiful, we enjoyed lazing on the loungers overlooking the water. The pool is large and the simple water slide is fun to try out! There's an easy flow between the beach, pool and hotel with pleasant areas to sit and enjoy the view.

Quiet beach front resort with a huge pool, with 8 reasonably priced local restaurants within walking distance. We ate at 7 of them (see separate reviews). There is also a couple of street food carts on the road right outside the resort. We asked for a quiet room on the top floor away from the pool. Our initial booking was 7 days, but we extended this to 17 days to soak up the tranquillity and clear sea water. We stayed in room C2 908. It was on the eastern side of the property which was bounded by the road to the ferry port. Occasionally we could hear cars but there are only 2 ferries a day. Some mornings we could hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque but again not too noisy. The hotel restaurant is competitively priced, and we really enjoyed the same western dishes 2 nights in a row. The resort is clean with friendly helpful staff, and we highly recommend it.

Great hotel! Very nice service. The prices in the bar are very good. We came earlier and our room was alredy prepared. The transfer to the peer is very cheap, much cheaper than outside taxis. The pool is clean and the beach is beautifull. Do not reccomend services close to the hotel as they are highly overpriced and not good guality.

Arrived at Bang Rong Pier and saw a transport vehicle straight away. The driver told us we did not have a booking without even checking, told us to get a taxi and drove off! We were totally shocked about his attitude and behaviour. We then had to ring the hotel and get them to get him to come back for us( we had pre arranged this prior to our arrival on messenger). At first glance the rooms look great, bright, nice, clean with a nice balcony looking out to sea. The bed was super comfy. However, Absolutely no Wi-Fi in our room (block D).If it did link up it would then drop off 2 seconds later. TV had no English channels at all. In the end we had to move rooms. They obviously know there is an issue as the second room in block C had a WiFi extender in it, however the Wi-Fi still didn’t work in the bedroom area. The pool is massive with a few sun beds or bean bag beds. There is also sun beds on the grass looking out to sea. The view is perfect and the beach is lovely too. So peaceful to walk on early morning. The gym is basic and needs some more equipment in it. Breakfast was good, selection of fruits, salad and local dishes. They also had an egg station. Coffee machines, water and Juices. The restaurant looks out to the beach and we both loved our breakfasts here. The reception staff are amazing and I did feel sorry for them having to deal with Wi-Fi issues and a rude pick up driver. In fact all the staff we met apart from the driver were lovely. If you want a quiet, relaxing holiday and don’t care about Wi-Fi then yes book here. For the hotel location and beautiful clean rooms It’s definitely worth it. Just one suggestion for the management, it might be a good idea to get the room safes fixed to the wall. For those thinking of booking the cost from Bang Rong Pier to this island is 400 bht pp per way.

The Royal Yao Yai is situated perfect towards west and a very nice beach. A nice open garden is the center of the hotel, where you also find a very nice pool, perfect for doing the lanes daily. The people are all super friendly. The kitchen however, can be improved. But it does not matter a lot, as you can easily go 25 meters along the beach and dine cheap, effective and with delicious food at Mama´s, a local Muslim outlet. Also superfreindly, and the food perfect.

Beautiful location with a long sandy beach. Rooms very comfortable. Breakfast was not very good, the staff did not know how to handle a fully booked hotel. And they did not care much for their guests. Not enough sunbeds. Was very difficult to get one. The pool was not clean.

We were a big family, that just had our Christmas and new year in this Hotel on the island of Koh Yao Yai. The hotel is very nice and comfortable. The rooms are nice and big. The bed is specially nice. The pool is nice. The hotel is located directly on a clean and wonderful beach. Great location for swimming, kayaking etc. But you can not se any fish I you want to snorkel there. But you can go to other places on the island by scooter to snorkel. The reception is working with great level of service and efficiency, always with a smile. The breakfast is good, however it was obvious that the waiting staff was overwhelmed at it was first time with full hotel, so the service staff still need some systematic and training to handle the peak of breakfast, especially when it comes to remove used service from the tables. They try but they need more staff and education. The staff in the kitchen, and the supply of freshly made delicious breakfast dishes seems to be perfectly working the only small issue is in restaurant. The tables are slowly being cleaned and you may experience a small waiting time to get a clean and laid table at breakfast, cups and plates and so on. At lunch you must expect a long waiting time also. The other meals we only tried twice times dinner which was good, but there are some small restaurants near by if you want to try other local food, which clearly is recommendable over European. The food on Christmas and new years evening were good. But all in all. I will give the hotel a very good evaluation and will for sure be back if I get the chance.
