Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Excellent holiday in well equipped clean comfortable warm cottage. Didn't matter that weather was changeable - some DVDs to watch and books to read
Very good base to explore the Uists and we also went to Barra and Vatersay for a cycle trip around the islands. also lovely beaches although make sure you are dressed for the wind!
Visit the pink roof café at Lochboisdale for lovely cake.

A nice guesthouse on Benbecula in the Western Isles of Scotland centrally located on the Uists.

I had a single occupancy of a pleasant double room with nice views in an annex building for £36 B&B - pretty good value. Room had what you need - en suite shower room, TV, storage space etc. There was a bit of a problem with the door lock - I couldn't get out easily! - but the proprietors were very good & I guess they will sort it out.

Nice breakfast with proper eggs (i.e. not supermarket rubbish).
Very pleasant hosts who make you feel very welcome. They had no problem with me checking out later than normal (11.00 a.m.) as I was in no hurry to catch a ferry.

We stayed here for a week with our 6 year old grandson. I can't recommend it enough. The chalet is so comfortable and well equipped, even a slow cooker. Bill and Sarah are very friendly and welcoming. An ideal base for exploring the beautiful Uists and Benbecula.

Clean and tidy. Excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful owners.
We were booked for just two days but they had no problem extending our stay at short notice. Also we were allowed to use the room on the last day well into the afternoon as we were getting the late ferry. They provided us with extra towels for the dogs when the rain wouldn't stop!
The room was in a separate annex so we could come and go as we pleased at all hours without disturbing anyone.
Fresh milk and nibbles provided in the room every day.
They also had a nice cat (who was getting on a bit but we hope she is still there).

We stayed in "The Chalet" for a week while we explored the area walking and by bike. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and very well equipped so it felt a bit like "home from home". The owners live on site and are there to give advice on local places to shop / eat etc. Also, we found the maps, walking ideas and historical information available in booklets and folders really useful and helped us make the most of our time there. We would definitely recommend this accommodation to others.

Just back from a great week in The Chalet, the one bedroom/2 person property at Lionacleit. It was a home-from-home. We had a wonderful welcome from our hosts Bill and Sadie, who have made sure the property is very comfortable, well furnished and has all the amenities you would need - TV with freesat, Wi-Fi, dishwasher and washing machine (complete with detergents) and a fully appointed kitchen with all the gadgetry of home (much more than you would expect from most SC outlets).. Bed/bedding really comfortable too, all of which made for a really relaxing and enjoyable time. The Chalet is so well built and maintained you couldn't tell the wind and rain was lashing without looking out the window. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a central base on the Uists to get out and bout to explore the Outer Hebrides

We stayed in the Smiddy Apartment at Lionacleit Self Catering which is on the Benbecular central Island of Uist. The apartment is really a self contained bungalow and it is homely, spacious and was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is very well appointed with everything you need. Despite the very variable weather in November we were snug and warm and would recommend it very much.

This was the perfect place to stay on Benbecula. Not very far from the airport, close to shops and a petrol station and well placed to visit North and South Uist as well as Benbecula. There is well organised parking and the owners couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. I stayed in the Chalet which was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Great kitchen and I could have taken the bed home with me. I'm an old woman with a ropey knee replacement so I really appreciated my surroundings and was happy to spend the mornings chilling out before going off to explore and photograph. The islands are so lovely there's a picture everywhere you look. Recommend visiting Kallin on Grimsay. Lovely scenery and you can buy delicious seafood. Also Shoreline Stoneware on the Locheport road B894.
