The caravan and campsite is located in the heart of the RSPB Balranald Nature Reserve on the Isle of North Uist and only metres from a beautiful sandy beach. We have 19 hard standing pitches with electric hook-ups for motorhomes and touring caravans, 11 grass pitches with electric hook-up, 10 grass pitches without electric hook-up and 1 glamping pod. Our modern heated amenity blocks provide toilets, wash hand basins, electric showers (£1 coin operated), dish washing facilities, washing machine, tumble dryer and drying room. The Dunes Cabin is on site from May to August serving delicious soups, freshly filled sandwiches and rolls, home baking, filter coffee, teas, snacks and ice cream.

I’ve been coming for many years to this site for the summer because the people are so welcoming and truly helpful. The facilities are spotless and cleaned to the highest standard. The shower blocks are warm and have hair dryers and a drying room for wetsuits. There is the option to use the site showers (£1) for 7.5 minutes which is ample time for a really hot shower or obviously you can use your own. There is also a disabled toilet and shower which is very spacious and well laid out. The kitchen is equipped with microwave, kettle and fridge along with an industrial washing machine and dryer. There is a recycling facility on site as well. During the summer the Dunes cabin is open with fantastic local produce freshly cooked scallop and Stornaway black pudding rolls, soups, cakes, coffee, juice and ice cream. The campsite has a fantastic location in the friendly crofting community of Houhgarry and across the road from a white sandy beach with turquoise water. Everything about this site is first class, it’s an absolute joy and privilege to spend holidays here. …

We camped here for five nights in June/July and had a wonderful time. The beach across from the campsite is stunning, and my son was gutted when he had to leave. After six weeks of glorious sunshine, I unfortunately picked the mixed weather week to camp here. After my tent fared a bit badly in the North Uist wind (no damage, thankfully!), a good-humoured member of staff armed me with some sturdy marquee poles and a few welcome bits of advice to keep us in the ground and they worked like magic! No more issues, and a bunch of happy campers. The facilities here are so clean that they sparkle. The staff are all friendly, good humoured and relaxed. We were all sad to leave. Well done to the team that works here. They have set the standards in how to run a campsite.

I arrived here and waited for a lady to return from reception. She was there within 10 minutes, greeted me with her 'erratic' driving, and almost did a wheel spin in the car park, very unprofessional! No welcome or anything, SO RUDE! No customer service at all just said 'What you here for'. Then you have to pay for the showers, when asked she told me it's so people can't use them whenever they want. Isn't that the idea of having shower facilities? Not stressfully looking for a £1 coin to top yourself up when you've had a few mins! I found it shocking as well that in the disabled shower there was no meter and you are given the same 7.5mins as everyone else, meaning not only do they expect you to shower in the same amount of time as someone without a disability (if you can't they expect you to pay more?) you also don't have a timer on the meter counting down like everyone else meaning you have no idea how long you have! Lastly, if you book for a night and then have to cancel there's no refund even if it's weeks down the line, crazy policy if you ask me! On a slight positive, the wifi was quite good and facilities were clean. …

Dear Fin S Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your recent stay with us. We appreciate your feedback and take on board your comments. Our aim is for all our guests to have a great experience and I'm sorry to read that your experience did not meet our expectations. We have 2 facility blocks and in the older of the 2 the shower meters do not have a visible timer counting down. In the new block, built in 2019, the digital meters do count down. We will be replacing the older style meters with newer style digital meters, allowing guests to see the timer. Our policy is that the deposit for the first night is non refundable and this is set out in our Terms & Conditions. However, we are very happy to amend bookings to a different date and transfer the deposit in the situation that travel plans change. Thank you and we hope you enjoyed the remainder of your trip.

The facilities at this campsite were incredible. The toilets and showers were so clean and warm. As was the area to do your washing up in. A very handy warm drying room, racked out, although we didn't need to use this. The man in reception was very friendly, kind and informative. There was a food truck open from 11-3 which we didn't use but the scallop and bacon rolls sounded delicious.

We visited in August 2023 in a motorhome. The site has all the necessary facilities. Electric hook up, excellent showers and toilet facility. In a fantastic location with a fantastic beach literally 2 minutes walk away. North Uist is very peaceful and tranquil, just be aware most roads are single file with passing spaces so we hired a car for the 4 days we were there rather than trying to drive round in the motorhome. It was my first visit to the island, we will be back in 2024.

We spent 2 nights in the corncrake pod and it was a lovely break from a long wet week in our tiny camper. It was cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed for our short stay. Dog friendly which is sometimes hard to find. Fantastic value for money It may not have a en-suite in the pod but it’s just a short walk to the shower/wc facilities. The facilities were the best we’ve ever experienced of any campsite we’ve stayed in to date. The surrounding area was so idyllic and some of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen. Would highly recommend for your stay in North Uist :)

Plenty space between vans. Clean toilets and showers, could do with another shower block though Wee shop , nearest local shop is about 10 mins by car . Couple of minutes walk to the beach. Friendly staff. One dog not tied up which was annoying . Didn’t get chance to try the Cabin as it was closed when we were there

We spent 4 nights camping here, 2 adults and 2 young kids. From the moment we arrived we where openly welcomed and set up camp. Soon as we had set up, we left the campsite gate and within a few steps we landed on the horseshoe bay beach.. Wow it was absolutely stunning, around 9pm closing in and me and my son could not wait.. We were swimming around in the water having a great time (June, 9pm, yup 😄) During our stay we also used our paddle boards in the bay here and it was perfect for it, shallow and beautiful water, we had a glorious day and the sun did not disappoint. The site itself has everything you need, washer, dryer, kettle, microwave and good shower facilities. The drying room was also a welcomed treat for our wetsuits etc. Location was great for us, we visited Berneray, Benbecula, South Uist, Eriskay, Barra and Vatersay during our stay and must say Hougharry (Horseshoe bay) was one of our favourite beaches! Amazing sunsets 🌅 The staff on the campsite always happy to help, special shout to Sharon! She was absolutely superb, always chatty and great with the young ones. She went above and beyond.. Thank you! We will hope to visit this gem again sometime, keep up the great work 👍🏻…
