What a little gem. A lovely house and very comfortable and spotless clean room. Lynn is a delightful host who ensures her guests have all they need for a lovely stay. Her breakfasts are second to none - she makes a mean fried egg! Lynn was available for questions and to ensure we had everything we needed. Definitely one for a repeat visit.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights last weekend when we were at a wedding nearby. Saltgate House was the perfect choice for our stay; from Karen and Alan the warm welcoming hosts to the high quality rooms and breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and they have a fantastic attention to detail. A perfect stay.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night on 12 December. We arrived to a very warm welcome from Karen & Alan with whom we felt an immediate relaxed rapport. Tea & mince pies in the sumptuous guest lounge were perfect. Our room (3) was beautifully decorated and quiet with a good shower ensuite. We had a very nice late afternoon early evening exploring various pubs and a great meal at Upstairs at Baileys. After a good sleep in an extremely comfortable bed, we enjoyed a yummy breakfast around the communal dining table with another very interesting couple. Karen kept us company and we all had a good chinwag. The local produce was delicious, especially the sausages. Would we stay there again.... You bet! Judes & Mark

Karen and Alan have truly mastered the perfect B&B experience in the sweetest town near the coast. The home is.located right on the walking street along the village and right behind it sits the beautiful river, with amazing views. It has been amazingly renovated into a 5-star B&B and is so comfortable and quaint.

This was my second stay and the rooms are always clean, tidy and fresh. The beds are clean and the bathrooms are spotless. This time I stayed with my partner and previously with family, and its perfect for both!

The main sitting/living room is so cosy and great for chatting or having coffee in the morning or drinks in the evening. Also, Karen and Alan were very helpful with advise on what to do in the surrounding area.

Breakfast is amazing. As a vegetarian, Karen made me a beautiful breakfast with fresh fruits, granola's, local yogurt and juices (local apple juice is amazing) and roasted vegetables. She also does amazing full English breakfasts... everything you would want!

Also, they have a beautiful garden in the back which is lovely to sit in and enjoy in the evenings.

Just a 20 minute drive from Southwold beaches and village, its so easy to make the lovely day trip to the town and enjoy the sun and local pubs.

Saltgate house is a wonderful home away from home. I've stayed in B&B's from New York to Sydney and this has been by far the most at home I have felt. I highly recommend it for couples looking to get away for the weekend!

The house is very clean and they serve an incredible traditional English breakfast using farm fresh local ingredients!

After visiting most parts of the UK over the past few years we decided to go off the usual haunts and visit other parts of the beautiful countryside.

We decided to visit some of the market towns, fishing villages and of course the British pubs with their fantastic beer and food. So with that in mind we found a delightful bed and breakfast accommodation in Beccles in the heart of the Suffolk countryside which was recommended by friends of friends, Saltgate House has recently been taken over and beautifully remodeled. Beccles is a small market town very close to Norwich and only 2 hours from London by train where we were met by our hosts, Karen and Alan.

Saltgate House has benefitted from the new owners expertise to keep, and enhance its obvious Georgian architecture, that is also abundant in the area. Their flair for decoration is very relaxing and, with extremely comfortable beds make the stay delightful. Every day we were met with a the traditional English breakfast of locally farmed eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms etc. and copious amounts of good fresh coffee to start the day before exploring the area.

The area of Suffolk and Norfolk was used during the Second World War as locations for many US and UK squadrons of aircraft due to its very flat lands and proximity to the continent of Europe. We visited a small but well informative museum at Flixton, about 20 minutes from Saltgate House that was the base for the 446th US squadron and also Duxford which is part of the Imperial War Museum. Our host Alan, has a vast knowledge of the US and UK airfields in the area and I believe there were around 100 during World War 2. It is a must for any ex air force veterans and families to relive their service.

My wife and I are already planning to visit next year and explore the delights of the area and enjoy another stay at Saltgate House.
