Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a lovely stay at the Cottage at Poplar Hall. It is in an idyllic location, overlooking fine Suffolk countryside, and the accommodation was very cosy with a well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed watching the birds in the garden every morning. It's ideally situated for exploring Southwold, Dunwich and Minsmere - there are an abundance of walks and things to explore. Southwold is a really beautiful coast town with a really cool amusement arcade of homemade machines! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anybody visiting East Suffolk.

We stayed at Poplar Hall for only one night but it was an absolute delight. Wish we had been able to stay longer. Anna and John were great hosts and were very helpful and friendly. The rooms have great decor with lovely big baths in the bathrooms. Breakfast was delicious and Anna gave us great tips of where to look around the local area. 5*, would stay again.

Anna and John gave us a warm welcome to their delightful cottage which sleeps 2 and is dog friendly. It's well equipped with everything you need to make your stay perfect. It was lovely to wake up and go downstairs and sit with a coffee in the conservatory and watch the wild life that came into the garden (pheasants, grey squirrels, a jay and other birds, and on a couple of mornings a muntjac deer). Just minutes from the cottage is the best bluebell wood we've ever seen, It's an ideal location for visiting Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh, Snape Maltings etc. A holiday we thoroughly enjoyed - thank you. Sorry couldn't find cottage on TripAdviser so comments about the hotel in the next section refer to 'The cottage' not a hotel.

From the point of booking to departure... no effort was too great, Anna and John gave a warm and welcoming stay - the experience was wonderful, in a charming period property in a lovely setting. Albeit our stay was short the food was great! and the additional entertainment (magic tricks!!) went down a treat! Thank you both.

From the very first phone call to Poplar Hall to the time we left, we were treated like royalty. Anna the owner is a wonderful lady and looked after us so well. We were attending a wedding in the area and Anna gave us the necessary taxi company (Neal's - excellent) too. She showed us to our room which was beautiful overlooking the countryside. Nothing to find fault with whatsoever, spotlessly clean, tv, tea and coffee provided, we had our own landing so our bathroom was next door again no complaints. 1 enormous bath you could swim in with a separate shower enclosure. So much history, Anna can give you all the information you need! We took a walk around the garden when we unpacked and that is a joy to behold - teeming with birds and animals. The older part of the house is thatched, however the house as a whole is very, very picturesque. We chose a full English breakfast the next morning and as we tucked in we watched the woodpecker through the window having his! Thoroughly recommend a visit here.

Room Tip: The room on its own landing was lovely with a lovely view, cannot comment on the others
