Excideuil is a medieval village with beautiful small streets and the remains of one of the most imposing castles in the Perigord; but out of tourist season it is very quiet (apart from the weekly market on Thursday mornings). It had been several years since we were up that way, but we remembered this restaurant with pleasure from a cold... More

We ate here and had coffee or a drink several times, deciding to enjoy our last evening there after 4 weeks in France. What a let down the food was! Great service from Charlie, excellent wine and Kir Royale.. I had La mer et La terre to start with. The scallops were wildly over cooked and the gazpacho merely a... More

Our stay didn’t get off to the best start as with our itinerary it made sense that we stay in Excideuil overnight and I had researched the local hotels but could not find anyway of booking online. 3 days earlier I had opted for the Hostellerie, loaded their website and used the Reservation option which opened up a webform in... Living locally, the restaurant is a favourite. Each year there is a special 'menu St. Valentin.' Feb.14th 2016 lived up to & exceeded our expectations. The set menu began with a sparkling wine apero. followed by an 'amuse buche,' a smooth soup, a choice of entrée, a choice of main course then dessert. One could also choose from the á... More

After arriving at our booked hotel only to be told they don't take bookings anymore we managed to find availability here for the night. The hotel was lovely and clean, decent sized bedroom for 2 adults and child (3) and a baby. They had the cot already made up. We are in the restaurant and the food was delicious. Only... More

We arrived here for one night and finally stayed for two more nights. Actually we were on a property research and Excideuil was quite central. The room was spacious and bright. So was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. On the down side, let's say there was no AC nor fans so it became very very hot and quite uneasy... More

There is a cosseted feeling staying in small country abodes. The rooms were what one needs for retiring for sleep. We dont make a fuss as long as the prerequisites of cleanliness, suitability of drive-past and having a room late in the evening. Nice people with minimum fuss. What more could you want. Breakfast was had elsewhere ,as we trekked out for... More

This a simple country hotel in the centre of the Excideuil. We found the rooms adequate for our needs during the three nights we stayed there. We stayed there whilst attending a family wedding at the Chateau Le Durantie. The staff were helpful and the rooms were very clean. They found us a local taxi company to get us to... More

Ordered in French, meal came in good time but not our sons. We had to ask for it-took 10mins to get a waitresses attention. 40mins later it arrived. My husband and I had finished our meals-which were ok-nothing special. Waitresses not very obliging. Will not recommend or come back here. Very disappointed.

We landed here for lunch. First off the service staff were unwilling to help us with our poor french. We ordered the Plat du Jour which was beef roulade in mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes and peas. The meat was tough, hard to cut and chew. Not that good. The mushroom sauce was nice however. Mashed potatoes were alright, nicely sieved... More
