Had a nice room with a balcony looking out over the pretty village of Castellane. Garden area and secure parking. Good value for 65Euros. Had an above average meal at the restaurant. Very friendly staff with good english. Well worth a stop before exploring the magnificant Verdon Gorge.

We booked this hotel for two night by a recommendation from the book 'eyewitness'. We found it very special place. The stuff are very nice and helped us with everything we asked. The room was very very clean (beside of the blanket- there is two layers for the blanket, the white that they change and the yellow that they don't change and it was still with hairs. I hate blanket like this).
The breakfast was great beside of the fact that it's really difficult to find in the Provence good coffee, and they also don't have a good coffee...
The pool area is new and very nice to sit. (Didn't go into the water i think there were cold).
After we saw the place we booked for one more night, because its really a magic.
The location is also great- the middle of the village!

After reading a Canadian travellers review of the Gorge and lakes, I was persuaded to visit the area.
We travelled with two families - 7 children in total.
On arrival, there was no-one at reception, but our room keys had been left in a bowl at the desk. I loved the feeling of honesty and trust, something so wonderfully rural and almost foreign to our urban psyche.
Finding the rooms was difficult enough as the hotel is kind of divided into two parts. The tiniest of evlevator took our luggage up to our floor, with maybe one adult squeezed in as well.
The rooms were spotless and comfortable.

Both Patricia and Danielle were warm and welcoming and provided great tips for days out. ( When we finally met them later on!!) The hotel was child friendly since we had 2 five years olds with us, who were rather noisy at times!

The hotel is well placed for exploring Castellane and a fantastic starting place if you plan on driving around the lakes. What a beautiful part of the world. Would have liked to have been there when the lavender fields are in full bloom.

This in not the kind of holiday that you would want to spend time lounging around in a hotel as it is so magnificent outside. So from a person who normally indulges in 5 star luxury, this 3 star hotel was perfect.

We planned to spend 2 nights in castellane to visit the "gorges du verdon" river. we checked in at Nouvel Hotel du Commerce the 21st and got room Nr. 18. The entrance of the hotel is renovated and quite modern, proper and nice. Unfortunately, the back part of the hotel (dining room, lounge) is old, dirty and not up to date. However, after all, we got the keys to our hotel room and this is the worst and most disgusting thing we have ever seen (and smelled): the room smelled as people were smoking in it a lot. As my wife is pregnant, we went down to the reception to ask if we could get another room. The passenger list at the desk clearly showed that not all rooms were booked, so no big deal. After a few seconds, the directors lady showed up and we explained that we could not spend 2 nights in a smokey room for the reasons above. The only answer we got was: "this is a non-smoker hotel, if previous guests do not respect the law, this is not our (the hotels) problem". We tried again to explain (pregnancy and so on and so forth) but the lady was not even willing to listen and was very rude. She was also not willing to see the room to face the problem. To the questions if there might be another room, she only answered: "I don't think so". Finally, we took our luggage and drove back to côte d'azur where we had a blast the 10 days beforde and as well the 2 nights instead (see our other hotel comments, some where super-great).

Finally, we never, ever made such an experience and we highly DO NOT recommend this hotel. We would rather sleep outside or in the car.

cheers!

We stayed here two nights while visiting the Verdon region. We were not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful, both the public areas and the rooms. So many lounges to sit and rest, lovely pool set up, garden and patio. We took the premium room which was large and beautifully decorated. We had a view of the mountain and could hear the river running. We did not take meals there but the dining room looks inviting. The hotel is in a perfect location, right on the main square with lots of restaurants and coffee shops, including the traditional pastry shops. Well worth the money spent and highly recommended.

Very nice hotel centrally located in Castellane. Friendly staff, clean, spaceous rooms, a nice pool area and a great breakfast buffet. Really good value for money. Besides a WiFi that was a bit slow, everything worked perfect. We will definitively stay here again when returning to Castellane.

The hotel is right in the centre of town, it has a car park which is useful plus a swimming pool. The hotel is refurbished and nicely furnished and comfortable. Helpful staff. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Well situated en route to Nice or thereabouts and the gorge of Verdun

The entrance and reception area of the hotel have clearly seen the services of an interior designer, and is well decked out in modern boutique style. Sadly, the budget did not extend beyond the reception area however! Our room (19) had paint peeling from the ceiling, and there was a stranger 30cm square hole in the bathroom wall, through to the internal masonry and pipework. Internal decor included peach and cream walls, bright blue blankets, bright red spare blankets, green door....

The restaurant are did not fare much better, with one corner apparently being used to store old cushions.

Breakfast was disappointing. This area of France is famed for its local produce, so it was disappointing to find a selection of processed cheese, foil wrapped preserves and honey from a plastic tub. The local shops and markets are crammed full of local versions of the above at astonishingly cheap prices.

Must try harder!

My family and I spent two nights at this hotel last week and we couldn't have been more pleased with our selection for the Gorges du Verdon area. The rooms we stayed in had obviously been recently renovated and were stylish and clean. Breakfast offered many delicious food options, and the pool and adjacent small bar were delightful and situated to provide a view of the incredible setting of Notre Dame du Roc. There is a lovely outdoor patio where my friend and I enjoyed morning coffees served to us by the charming young woman who also managed the breakfast area and bar. Our time in Castellane and at this hotel was the highlight of our trip to France, and we recommend it highly.
