The Five Bells public house is a 17th century building which has recently undergone a full interior refurbishment whilst aiming to keep the traditional village pub atmosphere with an open fire and friendly, welcoming staff. The pub is currently open from 12-10pm, Sunday to Thursday and 12 - 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Closing time may be extended during busy periods. Food is served between 12-2pm & 5-8pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday, and 12-4pm on Sunday. We also offer takeaways during food service hours. The pub offers a traditional pub area in which dogs are welcome and a separate dining area which is a quiet space for good conversation and excellent home-cooked food. There is a sports room which offers pool, bar billiards, darts, a large screen TV and jukebox; a large beer garden with plenty of seating, and a children's play area. In the summer our garden is used by our Petanque team, holds BBQs and hog roasts, and can facilitate a marquee for a variety of events. Our function room is available to be hired for private parties and catered events.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wonderful pub run by wonderful people. B and B highly recommended. The food was excellent and the atmosphere even better! We stayed in the family room although there was only two of us but it was spacious and very comfortable.

We stayed at the five bells, for 1 night & it was fantastic, from the moment we arrived until we left, the staff were attentive & couldn't do enough for you. I booked late so we had the twin room, but It didn1t spoil our stay. We also had dinner & the food was great, my wife had the meat pie for dinner & said afterwards that it was the best meat pie she had ever had when eating out & that it came a close 2nd to her mum1s pies. As it isn1t that far from Margate we will be going there again just for dinner & I am sure we will be staying again at some point. I would just like to thank everyone there for making our short stay so enjoyable. See you soon.

Lovely old pub with very friendly staff right in the middle of a very pretty village. Our room had extremely comfortable beds and everything we required. The breakfast was excellent. The perfect ingredients for a B&B

My wife and I stayed here for a short break after recommendation from our Dover family ( we came down from Derby). We were extremely pleased at the welcome and experience provided by Mary and her staff. Our family room was really good and the food was both enjoyable and plentiful. We will almost certainly return here if we come back to this area

We were warmly welcomed by Mary, the landlady who gave us all the information we needed and even moved a car so that we could park at the front of the pub. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, in particular, the cooked breakfast. Our room was comfortable and well equipped and everywhere was spotlessly clean. We will definitely visit again.

Stayed for 3 nights with my Mum and we felt like we were staying with family. Mary is fabulous and never stops working and her team are all amazing. The bar, restaurant and games room are all superb and the bed was the comfiest ever. Such a quirky, cosy place. We will definately be back. Thank you all, love Donna and Jenny x💝

Stayed in the B&B as a group of 4 cyclists doing the “Cantii Way”. We were made to feel very welcome and given a secure area to store our bikes overnight. We enjoyed a three course meal in the bar which was tasty and filling after a long day in the saddle. The cooked-to-order breakfast in the morning was a real highlight, hearty portions that kept us going until our lunch stop. The stand-out feature of the Five Bells were the staff who were all absolutely lovely, top notch customer service. Unfortunately I didn’t get any names but thanks to you all for a memorable stay.

Traditional English pub in a 17th century building on a historic Roman Road. This B&B also serves food all day at the bar or restaurant, but also has a games room, courtyard, quiz nights and much more. B&B is upstairs with 3 rooms. We stayed in the twin room just before a wedding that was just short of a mile away. Nice pleasant walk. Very accommodating host and friendly staff. Great food - one of the biggest and best cooked breakfasts I've had in a long time and would come back for that alone! Room was functional with everything you need. Only feedback would be that a black out curtain may work better over the summer months. Would return when next visiting Kent.

Really welcoming, quiet comfortable room, excellent quality and priced pub food eaten in quiet restaurant, or convivial bar. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Some food items need to be ordered the previous day so check in case of interest. Interesting village and easy access to nearby Sandwich, Deal etc. Thoroughly recommend.
