The Five Bells public house is a 17th century building which has recently undergone a full interior refurbishment whilst aiming to keep the traditional village pub atmosphere with an open fire and friendly, welcoming staff. The pub is currently open from 12-10pm, Sunday to Thursday and 12 - 11pm on Friday and Saturday. Closing time may be extended during busy periods. Food is served between 12-2pm & 5-8pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday, and 12-4pm on Sunday. We also offer takeaways during food service hours. The pub offers a traditional pub area in which dogs are welcome and a separate dining area which is a quiet space for good conversation and excellent home-cooked food. There is a sports room which offers pool, bar billiards, darts, a large screen TV and jukebox; a large beer garden with plenty of seating, and a children's play area. In the summer our garden is used by our Petanque team, holds BBQs and hog roasts, and can facilitate a marquee for a variety of events. Our function room is available to be hired for private parties and catered events.

Detailed Reviews
Thanks Mary, Sam and the team for a really wonderful stay. From offering us dinner on a late afternoon arrival - absolutely delicious home cooked roast beef and chicken, out of this world homemade toffee cheesecake and dairy free crumble, to the ELO soundtrack and Xanadu factoids to the guest ale-you were so kind adding another keg as both brothers really enjoyed it. You welcomed us so warmly and we really felt at home. It was a real pleasure to stay with you in your wonderful pub and we feel really relaxed today! Both of our rooms were spotless and utterly peaceful, our beds were comfy and we enjoyed really good hot showers. We especially appreciated the flannels and blanket for the bed, so very thoughtful. Our breakfast was sumptuous, we are still stuffed now. We didn’t want to leave, and will be back for another stay. Thank you so much, your kind hospitality was 5* and we loved our trip.

Stayed in the B&B as a group of 4 cyclists doing the “Cantii Way”. We were made to feel very welcome and given a secure area to store our bikes overnight. We enjoyed a three course meal in the bar which was tasty and filling after a long day in the saddle. The cooked-to-order breakfast in the morning was a real highlight, hearty portions that kept us going until our lunch stop.
The stand-out feature of the Five Bells were the staff who were all absolutely lovely, top notch customer service. Unfortunately I didn’t get any names but thanks to you all for a memorable stay.

As a last minute booking to go to the open we stumbled upon this hidden gem!
On arrival we were met with the friendliest of welcomes after a six hour drive and was offered a meal even though it was 9 pm . Food was lovely as were all the staff and locals, you can never be called “my love” enough in my books!!
Super comfortable bed and room also.
We were leaving well before breakfast to catch the start of the golf so Mary had made us a lovely packed lunch to take with us.
Second night as good as the first with lovely food again.
As we got up for breakfast before leaving we went down to order everything was made fresh with good quality meats.
I doubt there was anything we could have asked for that Mary wouldn’t of done for us.
We would love to return and see more of the surrounding areas and it’s the 5 Bells where we would defiantly stay!!
10/10 for Mary and her team

Traditional English pub in a 17th century building on a historic Roman Road. This B&B also serves food all day at the bar or restaurant, but also has a games room, courtyard, quiz nights and much more. B&B is upstairs with 3 rooms. We stayed in the twin room just before a wedding that was just short of a mile away. Nice pleasant walk. Very accommodating host and friendly staff. Great food - one of the biggest and best cooked breakfasts I've had in a long time and would come back for that alone! Room was functional with everything you need. Only feedback would be that a black out curtain may work better over the summer months. Would return when next visiting Kent.

Thank you Jonathon for your lovely comments also for the idea of the black out curtain, may I ask was this due to street light opposite as neighbours are currently are trying to have this removed. We look forward to seeing you again if passing,Stay safe, Thank you.

We were warmly welcomed by Mary, the landlady who gave us all the information we needed and even moved a car so that we could park at the front of the pub. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, in particular, the cooked breakfast. Our room was comfortable and well equipped and everywhere was spotlessly clean. We will definitely visit again.

Arrived Monday lunch-time and quickly settled in. Mary, the landlady the perfect host and all the staff friendly and efficient. The beds in the twin room had been pushed together as requested to give us a "king" bed. Excellent centre for both public footpaths and visiting the area.

Wet welcoming and friendly.
It was absolutely tipping it down and they helped us out.
Told us to hang our coats over the radiator, dragged a table in front of another for us to get warm by and shut doors to keep us from draughts.
There was a power cut but they still worked hard to get us food.
As our waterproofs had failed one of the lovely staff offered us a lift home.
A wonderful experience on a very mucky horrid day. Thank you so much. Xxx

Very friendly and helpful staff and good procedures in place to deal with Covid-19. However, the room was very shabby with paper and paint peeling off the walls, despite the place apparently being recently refurbished (I can only assume they didn't get round to our room). Breakfast was good. There is only space for around 6 cars on the hotel forecourt, but there is lots of free on street parking in the surrounding roads. We expected more for the price we paid.

Hello Marion,Thank you for the feedback comments. No im sorry with everything going, on we had not made it to the twin room for refurbishment,it is on my to do list. The parking at the front of the pub is not mine it belongs to the council,i only have parking at the side ,however if you stay again or anyone reading this wishes to stay .I can reserve a parking space for you no trouble at the side of the building even giving you my space if necessary. Thank you once again we are trying really hard to keep customers and my team safe at this present time,Many Thanks,Mary.

Stayed overnight with my wife whilst attending a wedding nearby. Landlady and staff could not have been more helpful on our arrival and throughout our stay.
The room was very nice with one of the best hotel showers I have seen. Tea and coffee were provided with a small kettle.
Breakfast the next morning was absolutely excellent and one of the best Full English Breakfasts I have had, if not the best.
I would highly recommend.

Mary is one of the friendliest landladys we've met and we were welcomed by her and her daughter, Clare, who was working behind the bar.
Lovely, good value, evening meal. Delicious breakfasts. Clean, comfortable bedroom.
Perfect location for a golfing break.

Hello,Thank you for your enquiry,Dogs are allowed in our sports bar and function room, also the garden. But the main pub is dog free.
It is advisable if you are coming with a dog to telephone in advance to make sure the sports bar /Function room is not booked out for private dinner or occasion. Whilst it is lovely in the garden most of the time at this time of year, its worth checking to see if youd like to be inside, tel number 01304611188, Kind Regards, Mary.
Never had a problem and being honest it’s a family pub and gets busy but the food to me is good and so is the welcome
