This was our 10th visit to the Athina and once again we were not disappointed. Makis makes everyone very welcome and cant do enough for his visitors. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had a very nice see view.

The hotel is only yards from the shingle beach the bay is comfortable to swim in. The hotel is in walking distance to the the town of Sami with lovely restaurants and bars. Also you are only yards away from the village square with a few restaurants close by.

We've just had 10 great days at the Athina Hotel. We always book a 3 star bed and breakfast as we know the standard in Greek Islands and it suits us perfectly. The housekeeping standard is first class - the rooms are cleaned beautifully each day with towels and sheets being changed very regularly. Breakfast is plentiful and good quality. The rooms are a bit smaller than we usually have and so was the balcony but it more than served it's purpose, which was basically just somewhere to shower and sleep. The whole place has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere and has Makis at it's heart. Makis oozes friendliness and endless energy. He knows and greets everyone by name from the moment you arrive until the end of your holiday. We have no problem in recommending the Athina as a good place to stay. Thank you Makis.…

What a lovely reception arrived lunchtime and was greeted with a cold bottle of water and showen to our room. Room was basic and could of done with refurbishing. Wc was glued back together. View on balcony was not that good so never sat out, which was such a shame. Fridge, aircon, hairdryer and safe free to use. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day and fresh towels. As part of the package we were allowed to use the ionian emerald hotel facilities. Lovely pool and bar area with allocated sunbeds available on the beach. There is also spa facilities and a gym to use. It is a good 20min walk into Sami to the resturants and shops. However, there is s handful of local taverns in the village and patisserie shop. The host of the Athina Makis made you feel really welcome. Would recommend this hotel but would request a seaview next time. One of the best greek hotels we have being too. …

We had a lovely stay. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy due to the cleaners coming everyday. The hotel next door which is available to use is a real bonus, used the gym everyday, free top class loungers on beach, nice pool with different loungers / large beds etc. Lovely flat walk into Sami where there are several restaurants. Very quiet which suited us. Will definately go back Makis the owner is a superstar who is a real grafter and top man 👍👍. Constantina and Mike at breakfast are lovely and knowledgable about the area.

We arrived at the Athena hotel after a long day to be met by happy Astrid not. She give us both a bottle of water and showed us to our room or prison cell without speaking. It was dark and small looking straight onto a load of trees. Eventually when Makis arrived after some deliberation he said we could have room 317. It was bigger but still awful. The walls looked dirty in need of painting, tatty cheap furniture, no tv, safety deposit box that did not work. Also the bathroom was dangerous with a step into it which stopped the door opening fully so you had to go in sideways. The drain cover in the shower kept coming off. Other things include same boring breakfast every day. The rest of the hotel is very clean. To finish the brochure makes it look like the Athena has a lovely pool and the bedrooms dont look like the pictures. …

Myself and my sister stayed here on our first trip away without our parents and we are so glad we chose Athina to stay in! Makis the owner is amazing, he made sure we were safe and well looked after, gave us advice about the island and is an amazing host. His bar is good fun and everyone loves him. The room was very basic (we didn’t expect anything major anyways) the only thing I would say is the bed was extremely creeky and the mattress very hard so we didn’t always sleep amazingly. The showers could do with updating as well for ease of use. You have access to the sun loungers on the beach which we used daily and are about a 12-15 minute walk in Sami where there are lots of lovely restaurants. We had an amazing time overall and are very happy with our choice of hotel. Thank you Makis …

Have just returned from a fantastic holiday after spending a week with Makis at The ATHINA Hotel. We received a warm welcome from Makis ( the owner) and were offered a complimentary drink from the bar as soon as we arrived. We were given a room on the ground floor which overlooked the sea, which was spotlessly clean and ideal for our stay. During our time at the hotel we were introduced to many guests by Makis whom we learnt came back year after year…which to me says a lot about the hotel and Makis. We made some lovely friends at the hotel and had a very very memorable holiday and will definitely return to this little gem in Sami. Makis….Diolch Yn fawr! X

The welcome from the owner Makis was lovely and he made sure everyone got to meet each other. The hotel was overlooking the sea and just a short stroll to the village with a few tavernas and coffee and bakery shops. We enjoyed a relaxing week .There are lots of things to do and see or just chill and enjoy life. We would love to return.
