We loved everything about Sam’s Bungalows and Restaurant. Big room with four-poster bed, a balcony and an amazing hot shower. The view of the jungle is amazing. We actually saw an orangutan from the bungalows. The staff are second to none; so helpful and good fun. The food in the restaurant is made fresh and is really good. They can adapt to needs because it is all cooked from scratch. They even bake their own fresh bread daily. The jungle tour was awesome. Great guides who entertained us the entire day. We saw orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys and so much more. We cannot fault this place; everything we needed and wanted. We stayed for five nights and could happily have stayed for longer. They also arranged our onwards journey for us.

Very well organised, friendly, helpful staff . Rooms were airy and spotlessly clean. Food was excellent. I highly recommend the Jungle Chicken. The trekking was difficult. I could not have done it without the help of Ramon and Andre our guides.

We have been there with our three-year-old son and they provided games and played with him. During our hikes in the jungle they carried him on the back and took good care of him. The rooms and the restaurant are very cosy. They have one of the best views in Bukit Lawang across the river to the jungle and sometimes you can already see orang-utans from there. The food is very good, too. Thank you very much for the great time we had there with you!

Just returned from a fantastic stay at Sam's Bungalows. I can’t recommend these guys highly enough. We had an awesome time. The location is perfect, situated next to the river and the accommodation was really good given you’re situated in the jungle. Sam has a wealth of knowledge and experience and was a delight to sit down and talk with. The guides, Ram, Andri and Pele were great and made the jungle trek and overnight stay in the jungle an experience we won’t forget. They also kept us entertained in the evenings. I should also mention the ladies in the kitchen who produced some absolutely amazing food for us. This will be one of those few places that we will want to return to again sometime in the future.

Truly a magical place! Located almost directly in the jungle this accommodation is a wonderful place to find peace and connect with locals, such as Sam and his team. The bungalows are clean and provided us with everything we needed. The best part of our stay there was the staff: they are incredibly nice and welcoming in every way. They took us through a trekking tour in the jungle where we spent a night camping. Not only did they guide us through the jungle (we saw orang Utans and many other animals !!) but also they prepared wonderful meals, made a bonfire and sat down with us to chat and play games at night - always with a smile on their face. It was such a great experience which we will never forget! Thank you Sam, Andre, Ram, Riki and rest of the team!!

So helpful with planning our whole itinerary. WhatsApp Sam and everything is sorted. Bay cave, Tangkahan, jungle trek, etc. Sam picked us up from airport and organised everything, very helpful with last minute changes. He is local and shares the work with the community. The rooms are cool with fans, firm bed and lovely shower. Great location for chilled stay, river view, swimming sport and near lots of restaurants. At the far end of town, so quiet.

We did the Orang Utan tour with tour guide Rama! He is such a great guide. He told us everything about the jungle, the different monkeys and apes, bugs, trees. He is so energetic, patient and friendly. He made sure we would see the orangutan with all of his power. Please if you book the trip, ask for Rama, you won’t regret it :)

The staff is amazing. You instantly feel at home. Nice restaurant located at the river. The food is great and the Beer (Bintang) is cold! Try their specialty Nasi Goreng Saté. Book a Jungle trip with Rama. His English is great and his energy is amazing which makes the kinda "hard" trip so much easier. The best and most relaxing trip you can have. He and the chef, who makes amazing local food, will make you feel at home and will certainly give you a trip of a lifetime. We do certainly advise an overnight trip. You will see a lot and have time to relax the next day. Chilling at the waterfall and enjoying the watertube back to the village.

We stayed at Sam's for a 2 day trek into the jungle hoping to spot orangutans. It was our lucky trip, from booking the trip through e-mail, arriving at Bukit Lawang and being picked up with motor bikes, being well taken care of before, during and after the trek - we had the best time. All the guys are super friendly, enjoy a laugh and make sure you will have a good time. Everything was well planned out - fruit snack and nasi goreng while trekking, full dinner at the camp-site, hot tea and cookies at the waterside, swimming in the river and at the waterfall and tubing back. We we're lucky enough to enjoy a private tour ánd witness the birth of a new orangutan. The rooms are also nice, tidy and comfortable. It has a nice restaurant for all sorts of things. Definitely try our guide Ram's favourite: chicken saté with peanut sauce. We would 100% stay here again.

Sam's bungalows is a great place to stay in Bukit Lawang. Sam's arranged for us a driver from our hotel in Medan who took us to Bukit Lawang. Sam's has a very nicely decorated restaurant and lounge area with comfortable and clean rooms that have a nice balcony and beautiful views on the jungle. We did a two day jungle trekking with the two of the guides that work at Sam's (Andre and Fabio) and have seen Orang Utans, Thomas leaf monkeys, hornbill, macaque, gibbons and much more.. At night we slept at a well organised but basic campsite next to the river. We went back to the village tubing on the river. Truly a terrific experience!
