I stayed here for 4 nights in January 2018, the first 4 days of the year to be exact! And it was the perfect getaway! Petra was prompt in responding to my email queries. They arranged my transportation from Medan to Bukit Lawang at RP650k,...More
We had a splendid time in Bukit Lawang and the ease of arrangements at Back to Nature played a large part. From the pick-up service at the airport in Medan to all of the help arranging activities (jungle trek, river rafting) to the great food...More
We stayed here for 3 nights when we first arrived . We wanted that deep jungle experience . Even if you don't want to stay ... DO THÉ WALK !!!! It is the best hike from the edge of the town. Have lunch .
Our family of four stayed in the cottage overlooking the main section. The location is fantastic for those who want to be close to nature and don't mind the (scenic) 40 minute walk to Bukit Lawang. We loved the setting, proximity to the sounds and...More
Having limited time in Sumatra, I picked this place to maximize our time IN the jungle. I was not disappointed! I expected the beauty and grandeur of the rainforest, but the big surprises were how incredible the staff is, how delicious the food was, and...More

Real adventure guaranteed! Safe, comfortable and cheap ;)
On your way to and in Bukit Lawang town many guides and fake agents will try to offer you better places and ways to see the ourang outans, but just walk through and don't tell them you go to Back to Nature or they will charge you invented entrance fees for nothing as you enter the national park.
It is at 45min. walking distance (manual cable car included) from the last town area. We did it with luggage and our 4 little daughters (2-11years). The food there can be improved but you will feel completely ressourced again thanks to the surrounded jungle and everything that goes with.
Bon voyage and if you go say hi to Selwa from me!

The cost of a room is IDR 300,000 per night, which includes breakfast. The cost of other meals, like lunch or dinner, is about IDR 40,000-50,000 each. Drinks are IDR 15,000-20,000 each, more for beer or alcohol. A private car transfer to/from Medan airport is IDR 650,000 each way. Note that the hotel offers a free porter for your luggage only to the lodge. The return trip to town is extra, please read my review for more details. You cna go hiking in their jungle out back, but don not expect to see to much. A full day (6-7 hours) jungle trek, which leaves from town (again see my review for more details), was IDR 535,000 per person on a group basis, and included the park fee, guide fee and lunch. There are also multi-day trips and rafting trips that cost more and which are offered by nearly everyone in town.
