The Bell Hotel Saxmundham has a rich past filled with local folklore and national history.

In Georgian times it was the hub of the local community, and a place for travellers – and sometimes Kings – to park their coaches and rest their weary heads. Now, having restored the hotel to its full glory, the hotel invites a new generation of travellers, sightseers, and lovers of local food and drink into the warm and welcoming interior.

The hotel, which was purchased in early 2022 by the Beales Hotel group, boasts a stunning interior with an emphasis on modern design and comfort.

Whichever room you select for your stay, you’ll discover lovingly handcrafted features, bespoke decorations and elegant interior colour patterns that evokes a tangible connection with the local landscape.

It’s the perfect décor to soothe your mind as you drift off to sleep on the same mattress the royal household uses – a Hypnos mattress. The Bell Hotel is a place you can expect to wake up refreshed and ready for the hearty breakfast waiting for you in our restaurant every morning.

The restaurant at the hotel is where you go when you want to experience authentic British country life and fresh cuisine all in one place. Freshly caught sea bass and lobster from the coast, locally grown seasonal vegetables, wild game, Suffolk pasture fed beef, and of course top-notch wines… you will find them all on the menu here.

The Coast Lounge is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring beautiful Suffolk. You can drop in for breakfast or a cake with a morning cappuccino, enjoy a hearty lunch or a three course dinner, as the relaxed informal style of the lounge is designed for everyday eating.

The River Bar, with its clean lines, blue accents, and carefully selected art, is the perfect place to sip on a drink and unwind from the day’s events, and enjoy time with friends. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar area.

The hotel is ideally situated for exploring Suffolk’s beautiful maritime heartland, with resorts like Aldeburgh and Southwold nearby. You will also find Framlingham Castle, many historic market towns and countless beauty spots within easy reach when you make The Bell Hotel Saxmundham your luxury base for an unforgettable Suffolk coastal visit.

The hotel has something for everyone. From romantic getaways for two, to a family room that has everything you need for a fun-filled weekend away, you won’t be disappointed!

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Simply put this hotel is excellent, a little gem in the heart of Suffolk. We were warmly welcomed and looked after by the team. Callum and Matt proved excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Stayed in room 4, absolutely perfect, the kids said it’s the best family room we have ever stayed in. It beats the George Hotel in Edinburgh! We won’t hesitate to re visit, rare to have such an honest family feel whilst experiencing modern luxury in a hotel. The Beales family should be proud of this hotel and we look forward to returning in the summer.

I don’t usually give reviews but had to make an exception here. I booked the wrong Bell Inn for a 70th Birthday celebration, so this could have ended up a disaster. However Matthew, not wanting to disappoint our day,let us use the Coach Room and had a fantastic meal and afternoon. Thank you Matthew we will be back Service and food exemplary.

Had another great stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived to moment we left the service and experience was second to none. Afternoon meal was very nice and the service was excellent. Evening service did not disappoint. Only slight down was it took our room (10) a while to reach an ambient temperature, perhaps raising the thermostatic radiator before our arrival would have helped. A small oversight which did not interrupt our overall enjoyment. Hope to see you again soon.

An absolutely delightful stay at this beautifully refurbished hotel. A very warm welcome when we arrived and having booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package had premixed cocktails in the fridge in our room, together with ice and slices of orange and lime. Dinner was very good a good selection of dishes but not so many that you know it has to be boil in the bag, all freshly prepared. Our room was immaculate with a very comfortable bed, sofa and huge bathroom with large shower and roll top bath, luxury! Breakfast can make or break an overnight stay and the breakfast at The Bell was freshly prepared to order and was, like everything else there delicious. A good selection of fruit, cereals and pastries as well as the freshly cooked options. Service was excellent nothing appeared to be too much trouble, Thank you for looking after us so well.

To echo many other reviewers, first and foremost a genuinely welcoming and friendly staff always makes a difference, especially after a long drive. There is nothing corporate or forced, just genuinely friendly people. The refurbishment is stunning and classy. The room was wonderful, bed comfortable, huge duvet and fantastic bathroom. I was accompanied to the car parking facility by Callum when he could have just told me where to go, nice touch. The evening meal was of good quality and special mention for the breakfast, great options and wonderful coffee (ask for Americano as opposed to cafetiere if you like it strong like me.) We found this to be really good value for money as we would typically expect to pay significantly more for this kind of quality. We were first time visitors to Suffolk and found the Bell to be an excellent base with many tourist attractions being within easy reach and would thoroughly recommend it. Final nice touches that make the difference - A magnifying mirror in the bathroom and a chiller with fresh milk instead of UHT! I have no doubt that this Hotel will go on to thrive.

Lovely welcome to this lovingly restored inn. Dropped in for just a couple tea to a warm welcome. Long list of loose leaf teas. Deffo the best place for tea in Sax. I had breakfast here a few months ago and it was an excellent experience. Nicely laid out breakfast buffet and cooked to order full veggie English.

It was a really enjoyable experience from start to finish. Polite, friendly, helpful staff , a well appointed clean room with an excellent en suite bathroom and very good food to be had at dinner and for breakfast. Tremendous value for money in this present expensive climate for hotels. Will definitely be recommending to friends and returning later on in the year
