Holidaying in North Yorkshire post-Easter we decided to try again the Wombwell Arms at the bottom of Wass Bank for lunch - our last visit must have been 15 years ago. The Arms is well located being between the romantic ruins of Byland Abbey and the prestigious Ampleforth College & Abbey. The only other customers were two young men eating...

We booked late for a get away from it all new years eve, for dinner bed and breakfast. The dinner was a choice of three courses across the whole menu - no restrictions. I Had a really excellent three course meal with a nice bottle of wine and several fine ales. The food was stunning smoked snoek as a starter,...

There are only three rooms at this quaint country inn. We had room 3 which was reasonable for the price. Having found it via the Good Pub Guide, I was expecting it to be good and it did not disappoint. The food was particularly good and Eunice explained in great detail how she makes such wonderful bread. This was greatly...

Just had a one night stay here and was not disappointed. We had a warm welcome. We stayed in room 3 with our 12 year old daughter. She slept on on pull down chair bed which she said was really comfy. Our room was immaculate. First thing we all noticed was the nice, fresh clean smell which is always a...

Interestingly different menu with a South African slant. Well prepared and good quality food with a wide price range. Maybe slightly expensive for some dishes given the location, but certainly plan to return. Very nice staff.

Stopped overnight at The Wombwell Arms while visiting Ampleforth. Nice welcome, good beer, wine and food. Lovely breakfast and service and the pre breakfast order form is a good idea. The room was small but had a nice country pub feel about it and was very clean. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend. We will return.

Stayed one night and had fantastic meal. Deliberately chose the hostesses own south African dishes which were beautifully cooked and presented. Good selection of hand pulled ales, good, reasonably priced wines by the glass and single malts. Bed and bath on small side but room clean and well equipped. Plenty of hanging and drawer space. Looking forward to a repeat...

We called into the Wombwell after visiting Sutton Bank. We chose it because we'd seen the reviews on Trip Advisor. It was lovely and quaint as we'd expected. We sat outside in the sun with our 2 dogs, one of which is a rescue and is a little nervous in these situations. Fortunately it was very quiet which was good...

Charm...comfort...tranquility...authenticity, proximity to many amazing sites...the ancient abbeys, Riveaulx, the hills of North Yorkshire. And the food...there aren't the right words for the food that Eunice prepares...there's a reason it's on the best restaurants list...you will not be dissatisfied...
