Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent 2 week stay at Rosenhof. Robert and Catherine are wonderful hosts and saw to our every need. Our accomodations were very comfortable and the meals excellent. We relied on public transport and with Robert and Catherine's vast knowledge of the area we were able to hike and tour this beautiful area of Austria. We would definitely recommend Rosenhof to others.

Lovely spacious, clean and quiet B&B situated 20 mins walk from Ebensee station. Catherine and Robert were wonderful hosts, and very informative about the many activities and sites around the area. We hired bikes which were our main form of transport to local towns i.e. Bad Ishial, and Gmunden, to the ferry and train station, and the local restaurants. It was a great place for touring the area including Dachstein ice caves, and Hallstatt with its salt mine. Thoroughly recommended.

Extremely nice, my family really loved it. The owners are really kind, rooms are very nice and clean. We will get back with the good season for sure. Is very nicely located, next to a sky area and a fantastic lake in the middle of Austrian mountains.

Absolutely lovely home; great rental for a Family or traveling with Friends and renting the entire house. All bedrooms with en-suite baths; extremely well equipped home, clean, lovely patio to enjoy outdoor meals. Great kitchen & separate dining room. Absolutely everything you would possibly need. Hosts were fabulous; great communication from start to finish. Lots of information about touring the Salzkammergut Region. Easy access to Salzburg & Vienna via local train and driving to nearby Lakes & charming towns. Nice restaurant recommendations. Our family loved this home and would highly recommend staying here; we know we would like to return again someday.

I have stayed at the Rosenhof several times before, but at different times of the year, and each time I experience something new. This year I went at the beginning of December with a friend and experienced my first Bad Ischl spa day (Lovely traditional spa, great massages!), Krampus festival (even the childrens' version was pretty intense!) and did a tour of the Christmas markets in Salzburg, Bad Ischl and Strobl. Will make even Scrooge feel festive!
Whilst Ebensee is not in itself a tourist hotspot, I think it is perfectly positioned to give you easy access to all local towns / places of interest, but staying somewhere perfectly calm and relaxed. I think you need a car to explore the whole area anyway as there are so many beautiful towns, lakes and mountains to see.
The Rosenhof itself is a lovely traditional property with comfortable bedrooms and a good quality breakfast. Catherine and Robert could not have been more accommodating and helpful, with lots of hints and tips of things to see and do and they even offered to give us a lift to the local restaurant one evening when we did stay local. We decided to walk however as it is a nice stroll and gave us the opportunity to walk off the huge traditional Austrian dinner at Mostschenke. This is also a lovely traditional Austrian restaurant, with wonderfully friendly staff and couldn't have been more helpful again as non-locals who needed some recommendations when it came to the menu!

All in all, I would definitely go back and I have come back, yet again, incredibly relaxed and having felt that I have experienced new things, but had some nice time out. Perfect balance.

I used booking.com to make a last minute reservation at the Rosenhof. I was looking at Gmunden but the lack of vacancies made me look to Ebensee. I am so glad I did. We drove through Gmunden and I must say I was disappointed. Ebensee was much quieter and traditional with mountains all around. And the host couple at the Rosenhof made us welcome from our first encounter. We received an email at 245am from Catherine pointing out some travel tips.
We arrived a half hour early; Catherine and her husband, Robert drove up minutes later. Very hospitable, big smiles and a smiling baby boy [the reason Catherine was sending email at 245am]. We were sure we had chosen the right place.
After showing us around the property we were shown to our room. Our room was large, free WiFi, satellite TV albeit mostly German language stations, a fridge, free coffee in the room. After settling in we went downstairs and got a map and some travel advice from Robert. He also recommended a great restaurant walking distance from the Rosenhof. The walk is through a field with grazing cows, by homes and the local school. Beautiful views of mountains surrounding you. Times to remember: check in 4pm-8pm, breakfast 8am-9am, check out 10am.
Catherine and Robert came from the UK to run the Rosenhof. They were great hosts and made the experience. After breakfast Catherine spoke to us at length about their project. Slowly they are making changes and asked for our suggestions. They want to keep the B&B at four rooms because they want to run it as a family inn. The Rosenhof reflects their friendliness and concern for their guests' comfort. This is going to be a great overnight stop or longer stay.

We stayed here for a week in early June and have nothing but praise for Rosenhof. Excellent hospitality from Robert and Catherine, and Robert's meals were worthy of a Michelin Star - varied, beautifully cooked and interesting flavours. You could not ask for better evening meals. The location is superb close to lakes and mountains with so much to see and do - whether hiking as we did, or cycling. There is easy access to the nearby town of Ebensee, which has good rail connections. Our room was bright and spotless, of course quiet and plenty of space. all the information we needed to make the most of the area was on hand and Robert and Catherine are very knowledgeable. This is a lovely area and this is a great place to stay. Most highly recommended - we loved it!

We visited Rosenhof for 5 nights in early May and, although a little limited without a car, we found the location very good with only a short walk to the train station and nearby restaurants. We were a bit unlucky with the weather which curtailed our hiking plans but we found plenty to do in surrounding towns and places of historical interest around Ebensee. This is a very central location for access to some spectacular mountain scenery and excellent walking opportunities (in finer weather with less high snow than in early May!) We would love to return and found Robert and Catherine to be extremely caring and knowledgeable hosts. Our room was spacious and very clean and comfortable. Strongly recommended.

From the moment we arrived in Rosenhof we felt at home. Catherine and Robert are excellent hosts with a wealth of knowledge on the Ebensee and surrounding area which they are eager to share with their guests. We spent a week in their spacious house and looked forward every evening, after a days hiking or sightseeing, to return with mouths watering to see what delicious dishes Rob had cooked for us. Def 10 out of 10 for the food and wine. We could easily have spent another week in the area as there is so much to do. We visited the Salt Mines in Hallstat, Gmunden by foot and boat, hiked up and down mountains, around lakes. We had a car but very easy to get round the area by boat, train, bicycle, cable cars, steam trains or on foot. We very seldom used the car. Catherine was brilliant with suggestions on what to do daily. I can highly recommend Rosenhof as a place to stay. It has it all......great food, excellent hosts and location.

Room Tip: Our room was to front of house and really quiet but I would say all rooms are quiet as Rosenhof ...
