Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A jewel of a place; camping sites are great, with basins, firepits, and grass. Pool, bar, and restaurant on site. An hour from Etosha, and the town of Outjo has all the necessary shops. Staff are super friendly and unbelievably helpful. After a storm washed our whole campsite away, the owner arranged a room, which was beautifully fitted and cosy, for our family at no charge. Can only thank them for the wonderful service. Will definitely stay there every time, and can recommend to all.

I only stayed for one night, but I found the room to be very comfortable. The property is attractive. My dinner and packed breakfast were both very good. I think it would be nice to stay for a few days and enjoy some of the amenities and tourist activities in the area or that are offered through the lodge.

Our room was quite far from the reception and not easy to find in the night. Unfortunately no WIF in the room only at reception. We also missed a refigeration in th room which would have bee great to have.
Food was ok in the restaurant, nice small bar outside, Very positive were that the village is a short walk away so that you can enjoy restaurant and a excellent bakery easily.

Upon entering the empty lodge we asked if there was a restaurant to which the staff responded "yes" and blankly starred at us. After a few minutes we where shown up a dark staircase into a dimly lit almost empty dining hall. The waitress just waited behind our table asking us what we want without handing us a menu first. When ordering i ordered a large berry iced tea and received small peach iced tea. When we ordered drinks again we asked for two berry iced teas and said last time we got peach. The waitress noded, said ok and came back shortly after with two small peach iced teas again. The food took 50 minutes to arrive after orderering despite us being the only ones ordering food and while waiting all we could hear were microwave noises from the kitchen. The chicken cordon-bleu was soggy and bad and the vegetables microwaved.
The T-bone steak was half fat and bone and the "side" salad piled onto the plate on top of it. Cannot recommend.

I stopped here as a midpoint on my drive back to Windhoek from the North. I found my room here to be very comfortable with a nice shower. I especially appreciate the homemade biscuits! The staff here are very nice. I had a simple, tasty dinner of fish and chips. I took my breakfast as a take-away for the road, and it was ample.

The Lodge is very clean and comfortable. Atmosphere is really amazing. T Bone steak , chips and vegetables , was out of this world . It is a very good stop before you go to the Etosha . I will definitely come back again . Excellent work to the workers and management.
Well done

We needed a place to stay and were not in a position for much choice. The campsite was absolutely fine. I had to report that the toilet was not working, water was on the floor, but this was attended to quickly. As it is near the town, the quarry works are very noisy and peace and the beautiful sunsets can only be appreciated later in the day. PS the coffee shop in OUTJO is great.

Response from Francois Theart, Owner at Etotongwe Lodge
Responded 18 Jun 2023
HI Christine Thank you for camping with us. Outjo does have a quarry 5km from from Etotongwe. It is unfortunate that you could hear them on the day you camped with us as this does not happen often. Hope that you will visit us again.

At first when I arrived in Outjo I was only looking for a place to stay for a night, but after arriving here and from the really friendly receptionist to the clean rooms and awesome setting I decided to delay the rest of my trip and spend another day here.
The food from the restaurant is really awesome. The T-Bone was like butter and probably one of the best that I have had in a very long time. The service is amazing and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Generally the atmosphere and setting are just perfect. If you are looking for a place to stay before or after Etosha, think no further, this place is perfect!
The rooms are basic, but comfortable and clean, but what makes the place special is the feel of the place and the service.
I would definitely come back!

Booked an overnight stay for myself , my wife and three children at this place some eight months in advance of our trip and then double checked our booking two weeks before actually travelling to Namibia. When double checking our booking we were told 'everything was OK'. When we turned up for our stay we were told that they had now given our rooms to a 'coach party' and that they had booked us in somewhere else in Outjo. I though this was quite frankly ridiculous as you don't book 'Lodge A' and then turn up to be told you are now in 'Lodge B'. So, if you want to get messed about by a time waster then book here. If you want to be sure you actually have a booking, look elsewhere.
