Detailed Reviews
After reading all the astounding reviews, I just had to book a room at this castle of the heavens estate known only as the Grand Budapest Hotel. Upon arrival with my wife and pet Monkey the lobby boy showed me to our hotel rooms. Following him to our room, I asked the lobby boy for where I could find one of my friend's staying in the hotel but he told me he wasn't allowed to give out private information such as the question I asked, the only part of the trip that felt strange to me. Then, with the introductions in the world my monkey and I tried to magnificent, outrageously delicious Mendl's puff pastry sweet treats and this this treat meet our fancy. The hotel must have not been very busy this season but nevertheless the week spent in this Hungarian Delight was well worth the expenditures. From the beautifully designed rooms, the hole looking designs on the 6th floor and the mud-baths rooms made this week complete for me, my monkey and my wife.

Great hotel with lovely decor. I loved the antique details as it made me feel like I was at a super fancy hotel. It's on a mountain so very romantic for a couples trip. The staff were a little strange but friendly. All around great experience.

After many art trips - we finally found this elite painting.
Well worth the trip, you must try courtesan au chocolat from Mendl's.
Dogs of all variations welcome.
Zero complaints.
Thoroughly sanitized from the elevator to the ashtrays.
No contactless available only.

We decided to spend our honeymoon in Hungary and found this hotel listed here. There was a bit of a hassle to get there. We had to take the lift that goes through the mountain and then walk in a fast-paced manner to reach the hotel lobby. We didn't meet that famous lobby boy as advertised; sadly, the one who greeted us didn't have a moustache. We tried some of the pastries in Mendl's but found metal shards in the decorated cookies, so those are not recommended.

Some people may find this grandest of hotels a bit too whimsical. Some people may tell you that if you don't enjoy this pink behemoth then you don't understand art. Others may be very confused why every day there is a massive title card in yellow font in the lobby that is a premonition of the days event. Something for everyone, right?
The one thing I noticed right away was that everything in here was so wide and symmetrical.
I cannot tell if this hotel was built in the 20's or 30's, but I can tell you that a bunch of famous people worked here. I mean, it appears that way too many famous people worked here, especially in roles that didn't make sense for them, but somehow did at the same time. Very odd?!
Well anyways, "The End".

The concierge tried to hit on my grandparents (male and female) and tried flexing on them. Also random bullet holes all over the corridor walls. Would not recommend unless you have single and desperate grandparents.

I recently visited the Grand Budapest Hotel while travelling around Europe with my elderly but rather sprightly Grandmother who has recently reached the ripe old age of 90.
On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by an over zealous young lobby by with the most curious moustache I have ever witnessed. Next came the ever present Monsieur Gustave who instantly hit it off with my Grandmother. He instructed the lobby boy to take my Grandmothers bags to her room and left me standing in the lobby completely on my to look after my own bags.
I had several excursions booked with my Grandmother but she failed to show up for any. I called in on her every so often but she refused to leave her room. She was flushed and smiling from ear to ear each time I called. I haven't seen my Grandmother smile in 30 years.
The constant smell of l'air de panache in every nook and cranny of the hotel was very unsettling and the only good thing to offset this was the early morning supply of fancies from mendl's.
I cannot recommend this hotel for many reasons which are too long and detailed for this page. My Grandmother however has booked herself in again in 2 months time and said she is quite willing to travel alone.

I am a lady in my 80s and I had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel. Charming, luxurious, soothing, breathtaking... these are just some of the words I'd use to describe the concierge. Simply put, Gustav blew my mind.
The hotel wasn't bad either.

I booked my elderly mother in for a celebratory birthday week allowing her to take in the view and sample the local confectionary delights. She returned in somewhat of a daze and unable to adequately explain why she appeared flustered and had taken to a passion for romantic poetry. At night she is now prone to asking to see the concierge!

We stayed in the Grand Budapest in Upper Nebelsbad in the Republic of Zubrowka at the end of June whilst on a business trip to Lutz.
Luckily the communist days are over and the hotel is under new management of the Historic Society of Zubrowka, for which we did some research in the Mueum of Lutz (which reminded us a bit of the Dresden Zwinger in nearby Germany).
Our Suite came with a bathroom with tub, shower and complementary L'Air de Panache Pure Musk, two kingsize beds and a seperate lounge area with complementary mini bar and fruits.
A new edition of the Trans-Alpine Yodel with fresh coffee and tea and a lovely little cake from Mendl's Patisserie was delivered to the room every morning. Amazing service.
The views from the room towards the mountains were breathtaking and a daytrip with a precarious cable car ride to the Higher Alps mountaintop monastery was simply incredible.
The only thing we didn't like was that the corridors and elevators still had that socialistic 1980s look, though anything else had been perfectly reconstructed during the last years. Specially the Alpine Sudetenwaltz Lounge was very cosy and always good for an afternoon tea.
We had exciting dinners in the Grand Alpine Restaurant and after that usually some cocktails in the recently reopened Lutz Lux Cocktail Bar for a few Klubecks, as Zubrowka is not yet part of the Eurozone.
In case you are looking for Van Hoytl's "Boy with Apple": the painting is to be found in the hotel's Secret Gallery these days. Just ask the helpful concierge for details.
All in all a wonderful experience, but be aware there is no Wi-Fi within the hotel.
