We stayed at the Mala boutique inn (also known as Sunset beach inn Dhangeti) for 14 days in July 2022. Before arrival we had very good communication via mail with Hassan who provided us with a good deal including two rooms for 14 nights, breakfast all days, lunch, and dinner as well as Airport transfer by Speedboat and the following five tours • Whale shark snorkeling trip • Manta snorkeling trip • Coral reef garden snorkeling • Turtle snorkeling trip • Sandbank picnic + Snorkeling Arrival: Upon arrival in the airport at Male we were well received. There was a bit waiting time for the speed boat which turned out to be the local ‘ferry’ to the island. The boat tour took about two and a half hours even though we were informed it would be one and a half hours – but the weather was not too good with wind and rain which might have been the reason for the longer tour. Arriving at the harbor at Dhangeti we were taken to the hotel where we were welcomed with a glass of juice and practical information. The hotel: The hotel (or more accurate bed and breakfast) is located at a nice spot on the Island. We had two connected rooms which was both spacious and nicely cleaned when we arrived. The staff was always friendly and did their very best to assist us. The cleaning of the rooms including shifting towels (both for the bathrooms and beach) and bed linen was not done automatically but when asked for they would clean and change as requested. There is a nice ‘roof-terrasse’ where you can enjoy the view to the beach or find shadow under. We used both opportunities for a game of cards or similar before going out for dinner The breakfast was served at tables directly on the beach right outside the hotel. More than once we were lucky to enjoy the sights of baby sharks hunting on very shallow water a couple of meters from the water edge. The breakfast itself was the most disappointing thing about the hotel. Every day the same thing: slices of toasted bread, a very thin beaten and fried egg, a cold sausage, marmalade, butter, and some fresh fruit served with coffee/tea and a glass of Sunkist juice (see photo). Some variations would have been very nice. Lunch and dinner which was served at one of the three restaurants on the Island was very nice and the variety on the menu was plentiful. The days we did not have lunch and dinner included in our package we had it at the other two restaurants, but the menu cards are similar on all three of them The Island: Dhangeti is located so that boat trips to see e.g., manta ray and whale shark are not that long. The island is still relatively local with few tourists and an authentic atmosphere but unfortunately, bigger hotels are being built now which will do a lot of damage for the experience since it is our clear impression that the capacity for more tourists on the small island is not there. The bikini beach is very beautiful with amazing water, fantastic sand and was not crowded at all. However, the very few sunbeds are in very poor condition and all of them is in some way broken. The coral reef outside the bikini beach is very difficult to reach from the beach due to shallow water which is a big shame. We have stayed at another Ireland 9 years ago where you could swim out from the beach and reach the reef and a beautiful drop so we were a bit disappointed that we could not do that at Dhangeti We will also mention that the reefs in general are in bad shape. It is so sad to see so many dead and bleached corals. We could see a significant change from when we were at the Maldives nine years ago which is tremendously sad. Hopefully there will be done something to preserve and reestablish the refs The local shops are selling souvenirs and you can again find identical stuff in all shops with very little variations. Boat tours: The boat tours booked at the hotel was with the company South Ari Dive. We were well taken care of and enjoyed the tours with the friendly staff. We will make a separate review of South Ari Dive if you want to know more about our experience with them.

We traveled 4 adults and had 2 conecting rooms, whitch was perferct, the rooms looked clean when we got there, and was a nice size. However after a few days we had fungus growing throug the door of one of the rooms, and water coming under the other door whenever it rained. The rooms where only cleaned when we asked for it, and it seamed like there where some language bariers, and the staff didn't always understood our requests (example took it 3 times asking before we got any handsoap in one of the rooms. But we also requested for a new mattres because the one we had was rock solid, and that task was fixed when we came back from the beach) The breakfast was really bad. It was three pieces of toast bread, a sousage, an egg/omlet and some packeges of jam and butter all of the food were rarely warm at all, and tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. It wasn't really appitacing to eat. We all however loved the view from there we ate breackfast, it was right by the ocean, and we could often see baby blacktip sharks having their breackfast aswell , witch was quiet an expirience. We also had good use of the rooftop tarrace, where there was a view over the ocean and a table where we played lots of games we had brought with us. The hotel is placed nicely in the middle of the Island, so you never have to walk that far to get to the beach, the harbor or the resturants.

The place is in Dhaghethi island, 90 minutes from Male with speedboat. It is a small island with dirt roads, but no dust in the air, with rich tropical forrest and beaches of white sand all around, but only a small bikini beach. The rest of beaches require t shirt and shorts knee long.Excelent place to see whale shark, manta ray, reef fish...The inn collaborates with an excellent dive center. The restaurant is on the sea shore,so you eat all meals in a fantastique landscape.Only terrestrial mammals are cats, which are good hunters, like little tigers.

It takes 11/2 hours to reach from airport by speedboat and is the cleanest local island I have ever seen. Locals are ever so friendly, lovely little shop street and island is decorated in bright colours. Watersports team are at your service and its possible to visit a luxury island as a day guest. Not much of a house reef but the dive school will take you on manta, reef, whale shark trips for around $50 each. We snorkelled with 2 whales sharks!!! Accomodation is basic (comfortable) but this is expected as very cheap. Dining is on the beach so take plenty mosquito repellant.

I stayed at Mala Maldives just up the road fro Mala Boutique. Neither are the deluxe accommodation as advertised. Mala Maldives accommodation is quite basic but at laest the air con worked (if a little noisy) and there was always plenty of hot water. No soap, shower gel, hair shampoomin the rooms but, apparently, available on request. There are beach towels as well as the shower towels. The rooms are swept every day and the beds re-made. Maybe bed linen changed on request. Didn't ask. Mala Maldives is quiter than Mala Boutique and the rooms are a little better. The management also run another hotel a little further away which is more modern with very nice shower rooms. Regretably the breakfast is not worth $10 nor is the lunch. Dinner is just about worth the $10. Anywhere you eat on the island and there are not that many the cost is the same. Yes, it is expensive but everything but fish has to be shipped in but that does not excuse the lack of variety in the menu. They put water on your table with the meals but charge you for it. Water in the bedrooms is supplied every day (no extra charge). Went on a snorkel trip and saw whale sharks and manta rays. Well worth the cost. Shaalley from the dive centre led the snorkelling. Very nice guy and always helpful. Nishan, the manger, and his wife Sharu are lovely people. Very helpful and always cheerful.. Not their fault that the accommodation does live up to expectation. In fact, all the staff are very nice. The one area that females can go on a beach in swimwear is called Bikini beach. When the island is busy this beach gets crowded and if you require a sunbed you have to pretend you are at a european resort and get they by 8am to put your towel on one. Ther are other areas of beach but females have to cover up. None of the beaches particularly good if you like a "proper" swim as the water is shallow.

We carefully kneaded the dough of our journey: thoroughly learned about the country, read about each island. And finally we chose! Dhangethi - nice little cozy island. There are few hotels on this island that gave it even more attraction. We believed that the filling of our traveler’s "cake" would be good: the long flight was brightened accurately organized transfer to the island and the pleasant welcome drink. Nature grinds all the household troubles by sea, sun, charming views. The hotel consisted of several buildings with different names and the kitchen block. The food was good, considering that all the products were imported: european breakfasts with unchanged egg, beans, oatmeal porridge and pancakes with chocolate paste, for the dinner the guests got chicken and fish with various garnish, salads, desserts and fruits. Cleaning of the room was carried out daily, the front garden was cleaned, mosquitoes were ked. However, poor quality ingredients poisoned our "cake": - after the welcome drink it turned out that the room booked six months ago in the building of Mala Maldives is occupied and we were offered the smaller room in the building of Mala Boutique in dark brown tones, without terrace, right near the kitchen; in the dark of the night we feverishly thought about what to do, showing each stuff asking us the booking list (it must be said that the owner of this hotel is on remote access and during our stay never appeared on the island, there isn’t reception in the hotel, to whom to contact - it is unclear); the booked before room was provided to us in the 2 hours - the sounds of the building being built nearby accompanied us all daylight - the superior room had not all the charms described on the booking site, didn’t match the photos of the site and looked shabby. I inform you that the room had in reality: bed, fan, air conditioning, TV, refrigerator, good free Wi-Fi, not new towels for the bathroom and beach, furniture can be seen in the photo, electric kettle, tea in bags, 75g instant coffee, daily water in being in the use plastic bottles. Everything (!) - there wasn’t the list indicating paid and free services (familiar to us on decent hotels) and you will be tired of asking for what to pay extra - the lack of reception forced us to be running behind the stuff for to pay during 4 days; having achieved an audience in the diving center attached to the hotel, we were surprised to learn that we should pay extra, after 1 hour waving our booking list with the price including all taxes, correspondence about the transfer price, after the request of the check for payment, we paid the previously agreed amount On this trouble should have ended, but we were disliked in the diving center responsible for entertainments, we were simply denied them: “we havn’t the sunset cruise today, you may not see dolphins at all - nature, there are no programs about the culture of the Maldives in November, the resort did not send confirmation, you can snorkling only as part of the diving group”. As a result, we found those people to whom the resort sent confirmation, who had the snorkling and sandbank, and meetings with turtles and other entertainments. We wrote about this in the review on the site of booking, naively believing that our review will help to remove shortcomings and improve the business. But … attention! CHERRY ON CAKE! The owner accused us of lying, rigging facts, refusing to use his services and UNDERPAYMENT. The vacation ended with "poisoning" and a bitter aftertaste. P.S. By the way, the filling of this "cake" and the ending "cherry" cost $2000. Would you like to try it?

I booked a week of all inclusive stay with 15 dives at Mala Boutique, and can honestly say it exceeded my (already high) expectations. For my view of the diving, please see my review of South Ari Dive. From the moment you're met at the airport, everyone you come into contact with at Mala Boutique is friendly, polite and helpful. The room I stayed in was in Mala Maldives (the Mala company is getting very busy and so accommodation is split across a few properties, albeit all are within a 30 second walk of the beach and restaurant area) and faced a lovely little garden filled with plants and trees. My room was spacious, with ample furniture, and the bathroom was fine for the week with everything working and warm (if not hot) water in the shower. You don't come to Mala Boutique looking for a five star resort, but as you'll likely be outside for most of the day the rooms here are exactly what you need. The food is served on the beach unless the weather takes a turn for the worse. Make sure to bring bug spray as the flies and mozzies can be a bit of a pain. The foot itself was delicious and varied, and our group of guests all ended up pushing our tables together so we could eat around a big table. The staff quickly cottoned on to this and so our table was set for 6 (later 10!) of us every day. I had such a fantastic time staying here, and the atmosphere created by the setting and staff is one that is hard to replicate, but so valuable to have. If you want to spend a week in paradise, with lovely people and good food, this is the place to go.

When we arrived, they wanted to take us to another hotel on Dhangethi that they owned. We were not happy, but as it turned out, it would have probably have been fine. Mala Boutique has 4 rooms, and it has the kitchen that provides the food for the beach-side dining adjacent to the hotel. The room was quite average, and the bathroom was below average, but also very affordable. This is a small island, but literally being next to the outdoor beachfront dining is a plus. While the breakfasts were average, the dinners were very good. Adoo was very personable, and I enjoyed getting to know him briefly as our time here went on. Very close to South Ari Dive shop; fabulous. About a 3 +/- minute walk to Dhangethi's very small, but lovely, bikini beach. Wish that I had explored the island a little more.

We have been on this island two times before this trip. The people on this island is very friendly and thats is one of the reasons to go back. The next reason is the ocean where you can see whaleshark, mantas and sharks etc. We rented a boat for eight days and our guide Shalley, who is the best guide you can imagine, helped us to swim with whaleshark, mantas, dolphins and turtle etc. We were lucky to swim with Fernando a 10 meter long whaleshark, it was something extra. The hotel itself is really good and the food is excellent especially the lunch and dinner. Book all inclusive and if you want to dive or snorkel the price is very cheap compare to the resorts nextby this island. You have a nice bikinibeach two minutes walk from the hotel. We really recommend this place!

I highly recommend staying at Mala Boutique Inn. They have several packages for all types of travelers on their website and was easy to book via email with Hassan. I chose the 7 nights, all inclusive snorkeling package and would definitely book it again. I swam with manta rays, sea turtles, whale sharks and so much more. Shaalley is an awesome snorkeling guide. As for the actual room, it was spacious and clean. I had a little table and chairs right outside my room. One of the best parts about staying at Mala was the beachside dining. The food was good. The staff and boat crew are all great and really want guests to enjoy their stay in Dhangethi and to enjoy the excursions. Short walk to Bikini beach. If I had not already booked my stay at a resort after staying in Dhangethi, I would have gladly stayed at Mala for the rest of my stay in Maldives. I could not have picked a better place to stay for my first trip to Maldives. Will definitely book with Mala Boutique Inn again for future trips.
