We found Gangehi island on Agoda while looking for a remote island resort far from Male city, and it is what we exactly expected. It is 1.5-2 hour speedboat ride from the city, and located on a tiny island at the westernmost part of Maldives archipelago.
Being on a small island with 40+ rooms in total, everything is beautifully maintained, and guests are well served. It does not need to take 20 min to walk around the island, the garden in the middle is so tropical, and the rooms are on each side of the island. The small size of island also favors less crowd and provides maximum privacy. Beach side is small but nice - having some place to do snorkeling, there is a sand bridge (which is my favorite) extending like 500m into the ocean in low tide, the marine fishes can be seen just close to the beach along sand bridge, but the water villa side has strong wind during our stay in November which is not so nice for swimming.
The room we stayed (overwater deluxe villa) is very spacious, decorated with beautiful antiques (looks really old, so feeling like in old palace), and the bathroom and terrace are also nicely arranged.
Just one note about the attitude of some staff who did not treat well to Asian looking us. At the first time, I thought it was just forgetfulness, but it was not only once and observed that they treated better to European alike people. For example, we did not get a greeting while an European behind us was greeted and asked what drink he needs in the bar. Also in the restaurant, we were not prioritized, but the other people received. (found a review too on google map that an Indian was not treated well). Maybe vast majority of the guests are from Europe, so the staff have less exposure to Asians. Anyhow, it is better to be trained well to treat all equally.
In a nutshell, I would say Gangehi island resort is a scarce tiny beautiful haven.

This was our first time in Maldives and we chose Gangehi Island Resort since it was one of the first islands reopened after the lockdown and the experience could not have been better. We stayed there in September 2020 and totally forgot about the current COVID-19 situation during the whole stay.

Giorgio, the hotel manager was very attentive and friendly, and made sure everything was fine from the very first moment. He also joined us on our dives, which deserve a special mention since the diving was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, much more than you can ask for. Gil, our diving instructor took us to the best spots around, where we could see stingrays, eaglerays, an insane amount of reef sharks and lots of wildlife around the coral reefs. We will never forget it. Snorkeling around the resort is also a must, you will never get tired of it and the only danger can be the sunburn on your back from not checking the time.

We tried both the Beach Villa and the Overwater Villa and we got the best of both worlds. From the Beach Villa the best views are in the early morning, when you can see a gorgeous sunrise. On the other hand, the sunset from the Overwater Villa is stunning and you will end up watching it every day of your stay. The island is very small though, so in my opinion every room is worth it since you can reach any spot in the island in a few minutes walking on the beach or inside a beautiful garden. The rooms are clean and well prepared and room service was great. The same can be said from the rest of the staff: thanks to Manoj, Seelan, Rasheed, Hassan, and everyone else that made our stay even better than it was.

We have also seen some "official" information from different sources which states that the island is closed. This is not true! The island is open and the resort is working so contact them in case you want to go, you will not regret it!

We bought a trip from travel agency and choose to stay in Gangehi Resort. The resort looks exactly like on the pictures, this is literally a paradise. The staff is super nice and engaged in their work (kudos to the bar crew!) Island is small and located far from Male (1,5h using speedboat), so it offers isolated experience. You can buy snorkeling trips to see sunrise, sunsets, sharks and mantas. There is also a reef located near the beach so you can see the sealife daily. The staff is flexible and can adjust to your needs. The cuisine is splendid. You can taste local fish, as well as Italian cuisine as owners are from Italy! Covid protection measures are very high - everyone from staff wears a face mask and they maintain social distancing.

This resort is extremely bad and dirty. They have bad managment and bag hygiene.
It’s full with big cockroaches everywhere ,in the rooms,in the restorant,in the waking areas.
The food is extremely poor,no variety at all,the staff is so rude and unhelpful .
If you want to spend relaxing vacation ,this is NOT the place.
First the resort is very far, almost 3 hours with boat from Male.
The island is really small and in the middle of the island there is a very bad smell. No one take responsibility for the cockroaches .According to management it’s normal to have one finger big cockroache in the room because this is island and because it's raining outside. But these are only non sense excuses for their lack of taking care of the problem. It’s not normal and not rain or wet or whatever is the reason to have thousand cockroaches everywhere.I have been to many many other islands in maldives and i see something like this for a first time.
Cockroaches was falling over our bed and heads during the time we supposed to relax, they were so big and terrified .
It was disgusting ,to know such a bugs are walking in the space where they cook our food as well.
Do not go there because it’s just horrible !
They write they have yoga, but no yoga in the resort, they write they have room service, but they don't really have room service, only sandwiches, Restorant is open only at 8 pm for dinner and 1 pm for lunch. If you want to eat something between this time, there is nothing open.Don't go there. There are 5 star resorts for this price, which are thousand time better. We were in the most expensive water villa and it was full with cockroaches on the ceiling and walls. These bugs come out only when its dark outside and they are disgusting and so big.Its so scary what we saw. This hotel has to be closed for bad hygiene!
I can't upload videos here, that's why I made screenshots from the videos. In google I uploaded all videos

This was my third time in the Maldives, I have previously been to 3 other island resorts: Makunudu, Maafushivaru and Gili Lankanfushi.

The Gangehi experience has taken place in the very particular coronavirus context. Therefore, we have been so lucky to enjoy the island almost by ourselves (the most we have been was 7 guests at the same time on the entire island, the first couple of days we were only 4 people). This situation made us a little bit sad (for the resort and the beautiful staff), but we were really happy and we felt so lucky to enjoy this island with almost no one around. Everything felt so intimate.

The island is a typical Maldivian island, the villas (we were on a beach villa and the last 3 nights we moved to a deluxe overwater villa) are comfortable without being too fancy.

The staff has gone out of their way to make us feel amazing. At the restaurant, they have prepared vegan dishes for us the entire week (from scratch), including curries, pizza, burger, ice cream, croissants.. I will be forever grateful to them for all the vegan food.

At the spa, Som has spoiled us (especially me because I went 3 times :-) with relaxing massages that I wish were lasting forever.

At the reception, the boys were always kind and helpful.

Gilles the diving instructor has made my partner happy by introducing him to the underwater world. He has kept us company on some nights and we have really enjoyed his friendship (and the hotel manager's too, who took time to talk and be with us a couple of times).

We were really happy with the cleaning of the room as well.

Moreover, we were allowed to check out late (3:30 pm) without having to pay any extra. Yes, the island is almost empty, but they could have still charged us extra. We appreciated the gesture.

We have spent such an amazing time in this peace haven. Thank you so much for everything.

We had a great time at Gangehi. This was our 10th visit to the Maldives, and our first stay at Gangehi. The island is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. As we are very keen snorklers, it's always exciting to discover new places and new house reefs. There is a lot of dead corals, just as everywhere in the Maldives, but there are still a lot of marine life. Several fully grown black tip reefsharks, turtles, morays, eagle ray, sting ray, boxfish, puffefish, jackfish, and lots of smaller fishes. We waited until after low tide, and walked out on the sandbank and just drifted very slowly towards the island. So easy, and so beautiful.

Compared to other resorts, the food was very good. Fish and meat was cooked / fried just right, and not overcooked like we have experienced so many other places. The italian style and flavours was delicious, and the homemade ice cream to die for.
Just one thing we didn't like was all the cakes for breakfast. Typical for southern Europe, but as a scandinavian it's difficult to understand why there is 10 different cakes for breakfast. Luckily there was brown bread, a small plate with cheese and ham, cerials, youghurt, and the option for cooked to order omelette or scrambled egg.

We stayed in a water villa for the first time. It was great for this occation, but we will prefer to stay in a beach villa next time to get the shadow from the trees or umbrellas.

The location and seascape is stunning with excellent snorkelling just off the beach. We had a large over water villa which was lovely. The main lounge bar is spacious and stylish and the evening buffet was tasty. Good value compared with other island resorts. However, it was a bit annoying that hotel staff do not help organise speed boat transfer. Charging for nespresso pods in the room is a bit cheeky given the cost of the room. The breakfast buffet did not have any Maldivian breakfast and finally, we couldn’t sit in the lounge bar in the evening as they had ‘activities’ like karaoke and DJ Set- no thank you!

This was our third visit and it was just as idyllic as before. The staff are fantastic. Rasel in particular made our holiday extra special. Venga's desserts were amazing and all the food was fabulous. Colin fed us coconuts on the beach. The staff made a huge effort for New Year's eve when we enjoyed a gala dinner served on the beach.
My favourite things ... the beautiful white sand along the spit, snorkelling with a turtle just a few feet from the beach, watching the sharks and eagle rays from the restaurant, sunrise yoga, happy hour watching the sunset. The list is endless and we can't wait to go back.

We stayed at Gangehi Resort for 6 nights in March 2023. Our trip was moved from January after I broke my knee cap in December, and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to snorkel, the whole purpose of the trip. However, the water was mostly calm and clear, and we snorkeled twice every day. There was swimming off the back of our villa, where they appear to be trying with some success to build a new reef. There is a larger beech area near the dining room where there are more fish to see and where the water is generally quite calm. In general the coral is hurting, but there are some beautiful and healthy soft corals.
The entire resort can be walked around in only a few minutes. There are people working to maintain the grounds all the time. The villas are cleaned 2 times a day. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and hard working. The two who did the most to make our trip a pleasure were Nafla at the front desk and Rasheed, our waiter. Staff members seemed to come from neighboring countries, and those who interacted with guests spoke excellent English. Guests seemed to come primarily from Europe, especially Italy. We appreciated that there were no noisy activities that disturbed the general peace of the island. It was a lovely place to relax!
The only thing I would change about Gangehi would be the use of so many plastic bottles. They charge for every bottle of water, even at dinner. Readily available water not in plastic bottles would be good.

I booked my honeymoon package via a travel agency for 4 nights and 5 days in June 2022. We spent two nights in Overwater Villa and the next 2 in Deluxe Overwater Villa. We were the only Indian couple during our stay. Let me explain in detail both Pros and Cons of this property.

Liked
Perfect location - One of the best islands in the Maldives. The room was so nice. Eye-catching location.
Amazing seawater, very clear, a lot of fish.
The overwater villa is a nice experience, both normal and Deluxe.
Very nice breakfast with a range of food options. The food was great, and the restaurant staff was very polite and attentive.
The island is very private, and you can really relax there

Disliked
My package included 2 water bottles daily, but they didn’t provide them until the trip ended and charged One liter of water $7 + VAT.
The front office lady looks like the trainee didn’t care to fix the issues with the travel agency and their sales team.
Vegetarian Food options - Almost nothing except vegetarian salad or lentil soup
The Internet is extremely slow, no satellite TV
Location is far from Male airport (We were told 30 min from the airport, but it takes 1hr 30 min one side via Speedboat)

As I said before, you are not allowed to take glasses or bottles on the beach, but there is a lovely sunset bar where you can enjoy your drink with 20'% discount every day from 6.30p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

No wall at all, there are some barriers on one side of the island to prevent erosion but you can swim easily between them.
