I have been a swimmer since I was 4 years of age, have been swimming in my local club, swam at national level, lifesaving, scuba diving, rescue diving, cox-sin for driving boats but the love of the sea and the love of water has always been my main ambition & my reason to visit The Maldives.

When I arrived in the Maldives, the heat hits me and I realised that I was in need of a shower, as Ireland does not have this core temperature.

The speed boat was special, as you are unaware of what lies ahead and the anticipation is exhilarating.

At the pier, I was greeted by locals who placed a organic necklace over my head with a beautiful flower attached. I really didn’t know what was about to happen next.

We were brought from the pier to the main island by buggy, I sat at the back of the buggy, and could see the dive centre drift in the distance, these were my first pictures of paradise.

On arriving at the island, I was greeted by Rifadh , who was a complete gentleman and explained everything to me regarding the island and how to navigate around the amenities and the special places within the island, he grounded me after a long journey and the excitement of visiting the place of my dreams.

I was shown my home for the period of my stay and I must say I was left without words, a shower was had in complete luxury & I ordered food to restore my energy and a good night sleep was the ultimate finish to a long day.

I awoke to the sound and sights of the glorious Indian Ocean. I headed for breakfast and the stroll was extraordinary, the white sandy sand, the baby lemon sharks in the water below me, the sunrise and the people I met, I knew I was in paradise.

Shaun greeted me at the entrance to breakfast & gave me a wonderful seat to enjoy my breakfast, I must say he was extraordinary every morning and greeted me with happiness and warmth every day. Shaun, I am truly grateful to you ❤️
All the staff made sure I was comfortable & also that I never was without anything.

The following mornings I was greeted by staff that were outstandingly professional but also showed great empathy towards other guests and all guests wore a beautiful smile to brighten the day.

I went to the Dhoni Bar and asked for a coffee, Dasun was the bar man and we instantly became friends, he is a warm hearted man with chubby cheeks 😉 and a great sense of humour. Dasun, I will always call you a friend as you treated me like a person and not as a customer, so many places can attempt this but you can always tell when someone is being false. I went to this bar every morning for a coffee and to be greeted by the resident cockatoo’s on my shoulder. They love things that are shiny(my neglace) but I believe it was just my soul that shone😜

His colleagues within the bar, were always kind to me and we sang Happy Birthday to Sashika who got embarrassed when everyone outside joined in, I wish you many more happy years Sashika ❤️

Sanjeewa was very defined but occasionally showed his humours manner, bring it out more Sanjeewa, your a funny and kind person and always put a smile on my face, even when not trying.

The head chef at Namaste "Satya", cooks the most wonderful food with a presentation that would shame a 3 star Michelin Chef. Outstanding Satya 🙏🏻

Assadh’s humour reminded me of when I was younger (a year younger 😏) and we giggled like school boys, don’t ever change Assadh.

Sadhin shines while working and is the ultimate professional with outstanding knowledge of his his duties, he will be manager at a later stage, he really is that good and he deserves the best.

Sam had just started her position but already showed the potential within herself, you will go far.

In the evening, The Lagoon bar was a joy to finish off a beautiful day, the manager Assad would always greet you, chat with you and even have a joke with you, even the following day he greeted you with a smile and a chat, he was like an "older" 😉 brother that always looked out for you. Kadeek is a hard working gentleman who was easily made laugh and would easily show his bright personality, Kadeek you are true gentleman and it was an honour to have met you.

Sameraa, was always busy but always gave a few minutes to talk to you, big eyes and a big heart.

Rony, always tried to get me to have another drink but not in a pushy way, in a "we’ll have a laugh way", I always smiled at his use of the tongue. You have a gift Rony.

This was truly a magical experience, both nature and people will have you talking and remembering your exceptional experiences in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I know I haven’t said much about the island but these have to be experienced to be believed. If a place has good people like they have here, you can rest assured that you will have an unforgettable experience.

I thank each of you with my heartfelt gratitude, I will remember each and everyone of you.

My kindest regards,

Nick.

I have stayed at Olhuveli Beach & Spa during the Lockdown of the world and I am very grateful of the service Olhuveli offered during my long stay. Olhuveli is a big island resort, actually two islands , soon three islands in same lagoon connected by a walkway bridge. Main island was occupied by quarantine locals and expatriates. The stranded guests were on DREAM ISLAND.
If I am not wrong there were more than 100 stranded guests from different countries. Mostly from middle easts . We were treated very nicely providing three meals in their main restaurant supplying drinking water to the room, cleaning and fresh towels almost every day and during the month of Ramadan we get our supper to the villa and we are very grateful for this kind service from Olhuveli management and the team.
The lagoon is crystal clear water and they have a wide sandy beach all around the island. Very clean and tidy !
There is no shop for guests and the staff shop also limited items.
We understand the difficulty and we were ok .
Snorkeling is not good on dream island but the main island there is a house reef . Some people did snorkeling there. Jet skis and some water sports activities are available. Tennis , billiard and fishing trips also available. Some people enjoyed during their long stay paying extra for a la cartel restaurant and doing paid activities. It’s a wonderful island for any type of holiday !
Thank you Olhuveli I will recommend this island !

Grand beach villa room no. 820 facing the beach was clean , spacious with 3 beds ( 1 master and 2 kids bed) for a family of two adults and two near teen kids. Had open roof shower room and bath tub - different experience but lack of privacy between bath area and toilet due to glass partition. Coffee , tea bags and water bottles were replenished / provided daily. It has fridge with drinks at additional cost. Room has shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, soap, huge umbrellas, iron , iron board , a string to dry clothes in the open shower area, hangers, locker. good wifi but need to take multiple codes if you have multiple devices, each code connects to only device. All rooms have two safety jackets and a float tied to rope provided. Extra safety jackets are provided for free for kids on request. snorkel kit etc can be rented here but better to invest on a personal good quality snorkel kit and carry one if you are into snorkeling.

Grand water villa (room no. 526) was on dream island, this island is man made and was way more hotter than grand beach villa island. We checked out of our grand beach villa at Sharp 10.30am as per hotels instructions. Room change took more than 2 hrs, we got tired of waiting in the heat for our water villa. Also next day we had to check out early as the boat to airport was at 10am even though our flight was post 2pm.Incase of room change - Suggest do not leave your previous room till the next rooms key is handed to you and as one is spending so much money on water villa it should be enjoyed one complete day at least in my view. Water villa was a bit worn out as compared to the grand beach villa, one of the wooden doors facing the ocean never budged open. The sundeck and washroom needed some upkeep. the view is beautiful got to see sunrise over the Ocean near 6am. Service is very bad in this room, had to sleep without water as reception never picked our call from evening and it’s too far from reception, Sunset bar and diving school(house reef) and it gets too dark in late evening for that long walk of about 30mins. Had same amenities like the grand beach villa except for closed shower toilet area and of course it’s in the ocean water. We enjoyed a bit of snorkelling at water villa. Ocean gets a bit rough in day 6am till late evening so we felt snorkeling here a bit risky as we are not good swimmers and it was low tide only at night. Again prefer the grand beach villas or deluxe villas which has calmer sea side. Would not recommend.

Recently visited Olhuveli to celebrate my 60th birthday. The island is beautiful - sea, sand and sun sets are all amazing. We had a lovely room out over the water - brilliant. Just a few things took the shine off our holiday which was such a shame. Firstly, we paid for all inclusive and when we booked we understood this covered all restaurants. However, when we got there we were told that all inclusive only entitled us to eat at the buffet restaurant and 40% discount (on food only, not drinks!!) at other restaurants. However, when we did eat at the Lagoon restaurant it became clear that there were other guests who were on a special all inclusive menu!! We asked several times for clarification with no clear answer!!
When we did eat at the buffet it was quite busy and , on most nights, we were stopped from eating outside on the large decking area . Eventually I insisted to be allowed to eat outside and we were put out of sight at the far side of the decking in the dark!! The only explanation we got was that is might rain!! Not a cloud in the sky and all the other restaurants automatically sat you outside if you were paying!!
When we arrived we were told that we had $100 credit to use at the spa on our all inclusive package. I called in to book a facial that was $115 and was told that to use the credit I had to have a treatment that cost a minimum of $190. But the spa staff spent all day walking around the resort trying to drum up business as they obviously had no work to do!! I did not have any treatments as I felt this was a rip off.
Unfortunately, the management seems to have stopped caring about their customers and are only interested in getting more money out of them. When you pay a lot of money to go on holiday you want to feel like you are a valued customer and treated accordingly.
We didn’t let the niggles spoil our holiday. The place itself is beautiful and with a little care it could have been an amazing holiday. We had a good time but would not return.

We flew with BA which was a direct flight from Gatwick to Male. Excellent flight and service. Upon arrival at Male the queues for passport control at Male were crazy and we queued in sweltering heat for near on an hour! Once through security we were swiftly escorted to our speedboat transfer to Olhuveli. The journey by boat took approximately 40 minutes. Upon arrival at Olhuveli I was underwhelmed at the welcome as I have memories of a drum welcome from Kuredu some seven years previously. Having said that the checking was swift and staff efficient. We were soon taken to our two water pool villas by buggy. We were located in the new dream island so buggy transfer was really the only way after a long journey. We had villas 715 and 716. Beautifully appointed villas with fabulous, uninterrupted views. We were very happy. Our villa attendant #rumeshmotha was there straight away making sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The dream island side of Olhuveli was spotless, new, fresh and modern and had everything we needed. As villa guests we were able to utilise all the restaurants on both sides of the island. We ate at the Lagoon restaurant on three occasions. Highly recommended five course meal. Spectacular food!!! As it was our wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve we were treated to champagne, a beautiful cake and a meal at the Plantom Grill which, again was amazing and well worth a visit although a chargeable restaurant. Travelling back and forward to Dream Island was easy with frequent buggies back and forth. To walk it it would take approximately 25 minutes. I would highly recommend a trial dive whilst there. We were very fortunate to have #najihhussain as our instructor. As a family of four, two of which had never dived before, Najih was patient, thorough and extremely kind ensuring we all were able to enjoy such a fabulous experience. All staff were extremely courteous and efficient. I will mention that having tried to go to the Pizza restaurant we were told they were fully booked and they were shutting at 3. The gentleman’s tone was somewhat curt. This wasn’t a response we were expecting nor appreciated. Other than this one incident we were very happy with our stay at Olhuveli. If you’re lucky enough to get Rumesh as your villa attendant he will endeavour to ensure your stay is a happy one. He is very talented in decorating your room and will go above and beyond to look after you. He definitely enriched our stay. One little point probably not worth mentioning but I will- the hairdryer was particularly powerful. If you’re used to 2000 plus take your own. 10:10 all the way and look forward to perhaps returning again one day.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the island. Disappointed with the reef, distinct lack of coral, but were amazed with the nightly show put on by the Manta Rays each night. The buffet restaurant was good but very hot and stuffy at night, needs stronger ventilation fans to get more air movement. Our favourite eating place was the 5 course dinner at the Lagoon Restaurant, a table near the water, a cool breeze, fabulous sunsets and great service. A stocked up mini bar was useful as we enjoyed a drink on our wooden decking most evenings. Our housekeeper (Priyashan) was so attentive, he laid out a lovely floral display on our bed for our wedding anniversary, and was happy to clean our room at any time of day.
The adults only pool closed on our second day, disappointing but suppose upgrades are necessary. Wife’s concerns regarding the boat transfer were dispelled as both the arrival and departure transfers were faultless. A great holiday.

Our first trip to the Maldives, we arrived at Male airport on 30th December 2019 on an all inclusive package. It took about 2 hrs to get through immigration so be prepared for this! TUI rep was waiting at the airport and guided us in the right direction. We had a 45 min speedboat transfer to the hotel, this was an experience! Staff from the hotel greeted us when we arrived on the island. We were welcomed with a cold drink and asked to complete some paperwork, easy check in process. We stayed in room 205 which had a lovely sea view. We did not feel that a room upgrade was necessary. The bathroom is a wet room and could do with a little upgrade, a shower screen would be nice as everything gets soaking wet! Bathroom floors are very slippery so be very careful! Hot water was temperamental, but this was soon rectified by the staff. The mini fridge was replenished daily. Al Amin kept our room clean and tidy daily, we cannot fault him.
A big shout out to Upul, Gihan and Sashika at the Dhoni bar, they were amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. The sunset buffet restaurant is the main restaurant, it has different themed nights. We would like to thank Abdulla for his hospitality, he always found us a table for two and remembered our drinks.
You can also dine at the Lagoon restaurant on all inclusive, its a 5 course set menu (lots of different options) however you need to book a table in advance.
We tipped the staff using dollars and they were very grateful.
Bars - We had a few drinks in the lagoon bar however we spent most of our days and evenings at Dhoni Bar which has an adults pool area. (parents do allow their kids in adults only pool, which is annoying but staff do their best to monitor this)The bar and pool area is lovely and clean, sits on the beach and the staff are amazing.
(*TIP* - If you dont have kids, try to book outside of the school holidays - there were way more kids there than we would have liked!)
New years eve on the island was fabulous. They put so much effort into the food, the fireworks and the party.
Snorkeling at the house reef was amazing we saw turtles, sharks and many different amazing colorful fish.
My husband did 7 dives and he thoroughly enjoyed his experience. He would highly recommend the wreck dive. Hansel and the Divemasters are fantastic and very professional. Please note that diving is very expensive.
TIP* Take plenty of sun cream and toiletries as they are very expensive in the shop $45 for suncream.

Overall a fantastic experience and we will definitely return to the Maldives.

Our first international trip of 2020, amidst the pandemic was to Sun Siyam Olhuveli. A friend had been here 2 years ago, and suggested it. We got a great deal and decided on this particular resort. And I'm glad we did. Its a gorgeous place, with a great team who'll try their best to ensure your comfort. The team ensured proper sanitization in common places and always wore masks. They have 11 restaurants and bars, and 3 bars and 2 restaurants were open when we went, rest were being renovated. Our favourite was the Sunrise Bar, with the swings on the beach and delicious beverages. The rooms, Grand Water Villa, was huge, simple and contrary to our belief, we were provided with everything from life jackets, umbrellas, beach slippers, 4 litres of drinking water and even a converter in the room! The deck is pretty big too. The food was good at Malaafaiy, with an Indian and a non-Indian option for every meal, plus a separate vegetarian menu to be booked a meal in advance. Note that the dishes will be readied at the time you say you will got for that meal. If you reach late, you'll be served your food cold. However, the service is excellent, and they curated a special veggie menu for us at Maghrib Grill. The Dive school instructors are excellent, Maasha was ours and she ensured we had a GREAT Scuba experience.
There are lots of activities we did not get a chance to do, but given a chance, would love to go back and do them.

Before I went to Olhuveli Beach Resort & Spa I did my homework. Plus I had read some of th reviews that otherpeople had posted.
I have to say it w absolutely brilliant. Rooms were lovely, villas 278 - 280 have great views.
Weather very hot and the house reef was breathtaking. Abundance of fish, sharks, turtles etc. And even at night off the jetty around 10.00pm a manta ray came to feed. Awesome!!!!!!
Will definately be back to this place it truly is paradise.
Food was good and restaurants served good food food to with great service.
Special thankyou to Jamiz manager of the Lagoon Bar who really looked aftger us. It was my 60th birthday so he arranged for the table to be decorated with flowers, a bottle of wine, birthday card and birthday cake was sent to my room.
And to top it all off our bed was decorated with flowers and leaves by the housekeeping staff it was all a lovely surprise.
All staff were pleasant and would do anything for you. And on leaving on the boat they where there to wave us off. We had a truly wonderful holiday in Oluveli. Well done to all management who ensures the smooth running of this resort.******

This trip was booked very last minute as our trip to Jamaica was cancelled due to covid restrictions. I never thought I’d be in a position that Maldives would be second choice! But it was an incredible consolation prize. If I could give 4.5 stars I would as for the most part it really was perfect, but there were a few small things that let the trip down.

Upon arrival to the island we had the most beautiful greeting with drummers and a flower garland placed around our necks. Our room was nice, (Deluxe) but I think was one of the older rooms that was due a refurb as the decor and finish was very different to the newer rooms. I have to point out that the bathroom floor tiles in the wet room were extremely slippery when wet, to the point that it was actually quite dangerous.

We went with the all inclusive package which is highly recommended if you are planning to visit. The Maldives isn’t like other holidays where you can pop down the street to a local restaurant or try some street food, everything that you eat will be in the resort, and the mark up on food and drinks prices if you’re not all inclusive is very very high ($14 per cocktail, $6 for cola, $26 for a pizza!) We were told in our welcome pack that our mini bar would be stocked everyday, but unfortunately it wasn’t. We had to ask reception and then it was done on our last day.

Our favourite bar was the adults only pool area with the infinity pool. It was an amazing front row seat of the beautiful crystal clear turquoise water and there there bean bags on the beach, day beds and sun loungers to relax on. It was by far my favourite hidden gem on the island. The bartender there (Shaun) made the BEST pina coladas and always made sure we were well looked after.

The buffet restaurant food was delicious, lots of choice and very tasty authentic curries, plenty of salads and seafood, a pasta station and everyday had a different variety so you never got the opportunity to get bored. As nice as the food was, the environment got extremely chaotic. It was extremely busy, many people were not queuing and the staff didn’t enforce the rules so I found myself needing to direct people to the front of the line quite often, and they didn’t take to that very well. It put a dampener on our dining experience unfortunately.

As I said, for the most part, it was a fantastic trip and the Maldives is definitely a destination that I’d visit again. Maybe even in a fancy overwater villa next time! This resort has plenty of places to hang out and keep busy. Even on the rainy days we had plenty of fun.

I know that the staff work extremely hard and it’s very apparent in the look and feel of the island.

Thank you Sun Siyam team for having us

Plenty of water is provided in your room. Incase you want more for your child you can carry a bottle of water and you can refill it when you visit the restaurants. You can carry snacks with you.

They can snorkel, do water sports, there are different shows at night every night. My kids are 11 and 13 and they had a blast. The beach villa, you’ll have the master bedroom and in the other “living area” they’ll be a foldable bed and a small sofa bed. Separated by a door and you’ll each have a bathroom.

Sorry I keep trying to reply and it keeps failing so excuse the briefness of this answer 1) I would recommend the floor is quite sharp in places and a a lot of wood. 2)yes the dive centre does 3) it’s advisable (buffet not required) especially if you would like to eat and a certain time ( we aren’t late eaters) 4) I would recommend pre booking excursions although sometimes there is still space on the day. For non motorised sport like paddle boards I would book as in advance as you can! It’s gets booked up especially if you don’t want to be out in the middle of the day. Have fun x
