Visited to try the tasting menu. It is very reasonably priced - I have paid much more for poorer quality in well known establishments.
You are served an amuse bouche, 4 courses, tea/coffee and petit four with servings of lovely homemade sourdough bread.
The very friendly chef and sous chef served the tables and took great pride in explaining each dish including information on ingredients foraged locally. Nothing is 'bought in' - all prepared fresh and where possible sourced locally.
The menu changes every couple of days and all that we had was super fresh, cooked to perfection and inventive in ingredients and presentation. Even professed fussy eaters were converted.
Ballinluig is a small village 5 miles south of Pitlochry but this hotel restaurant makes it a destination in its own right. It is a new venture and deserves to be supported by visitors and locals alike.
Do not miss this little gem - I highly recommend it.

I can’t praise this place highly enough. Four of us went on a Saturday night for dinner and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Their COVID procedures made us feel safe and protected from the start and we were given a very warm welcome by all the friendly staff. For a 4-course tasting menu it was only £20 -TWENTY POUNDS!! The meal was worth double that, easily! We got delicious amuse-Bouches to start, blinis with melted Brie and fresh fennel (and something else I can’t remember!)which set the standard for what was to come. Everything was sooooo fresh and locally sourced. The staff explained everything we were eating and happy to answer our questions e.g about the gorgeous pottery in which they served the creative cauliflower course! I honestly can’t recommend this place enough, the standard of food and the cooking was really impressive and the creations were original and just so tasty. Just go!! Before the reputation spreads and this place gets fully booked for months.

We decided to book a little highland getaway and wanted something modern but traditional. The Ballinluig Hotel ticks all those boxes.

It's handy that it's just off the A9 and on the main street. From the exterior the hotel looks like it did many years ago, however inside its beautifully modern and welcoming.

Plenty of free parking just off the road too meant it was our first choice when booking. We were welcomed by the staff as we walked into the bar/reception area, plenty of hand sanitizer was available too. Check in was quick and we were shown to our room. The building has an abundance of charm but the rooms are pretty modern in contrast. Wooden pastel headboard with USB ports and plug at each side of the bed.

Little shortbread biscuits and tea/coffee facilities in the room are a nice touch. The double glazed windows blocked out any noise from the street which had little traffic anyway. Wardrobe space and floor space for bags was much appreciated too.

The bed was massive and very comfy, we have a super duper memory foam mattress at home however this was better!

We had dinner booked for 7pm for the 4 course taster menu. So glad we tried this. The food was EXCEPTIONAL. All locally sourced and foraged. The head chef was brilliant at explaining each course and the flavors. Sometimes a tasting menu can be pretentious and very sparing however this was filling and hearty, yet each plate was light and packed with flavor.

The bar area in the hotel is fully stocked with every drink you can imagine, as well as a Whisky of the Week which is a must try! The hotel/bar are very dog friendly and you might find some local doggo's joining you for a pint.

All in, the Ballinluig Hotel is a must for couples who want a short break and something different, not just in summer but a cosy winter getaway is something we are looking into. Also considering another visit to do a little cycling holiday as the area is popular with road and mountain bike cyclists.

Service from all the staff was friendly and welcoming and i would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We checked in Sunday 1st August & to say I was surprised with the state of this hotel was an understatement. I’m not sure who posted positive reviews as from what I seen it was completely different to what had been posted. Heading up to our room the corridors were filthy. The dust & dirt on the stairs along with the dampness down the walls, round the windows were all flaking was not a great start. In the corridors also the smoke alarms were all covered which is obviously a health & safety issue. Our room had been decorated but I wouldn’t say to a particularly high standard it was very very small & basic & the view looking out to the back of the property looked like a dump (when I had read a reviews saying the the views were lovely) ! We never got told on arrival that there were no chefs working that day and the only place that was close by was the Motorgrill next door a few 100 yards away. Needless to say we did check out I was truly disappointed and I am still baffled to why on trip advisor this hotel got good reviews.
** we did get a full refund

The Ballinluig Hotel is handily situated just off the Great North Road (A9).

Well, who would have thought that I would be satisfied trying an unknown 4 course taster menu. All courses were superb and it was just like being in the company of The Great British menu with the Chef presenting the meals to the table, describing the content and all the local produce used including foraging, great stuff. Apparently the menu can change daily. Yes, portions were adequately small, but that's the way of taster's. The taste, quality, and presentation was excellent for all courses. The staff were all very friendly and attentive and great value for money, something you would probably not try at home. Very well done all.

We chose the Ballinluig Hotel for its proximity to the A9 as were travelling to the Isle of Harris the next day and had a Sunday mid day ferry to catch. Easy to find at night!
We asked for an early breakfast and the team came together to provide a wonderful Scottish Continental breakfast which was a revelation. The local charcuterie was excellent and the fresh Scottish fruit were perfect for a lighter alternative to the usual ‘Full Scottish’ and really suited one of our party who is celiac and meat intolerant.
The rooms were obviously in the process of being brought up to modern standards and when our portable fridge tripped the Electrics the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating and reset it (twice) without a grumble!
Would recommend the Ballinluig Hotel for either a stopover or for a longer stay in the Pitlochry area.

The customer service here was brilliant. All staff really went out their way, including the staff in the kitchen, to ensure the most pleasant of stays. They appeared very genuinely lovely people. Our initial room had an issue with the radiator not turning down (although this was a free upgrade) it was very quickly managed, professionally and politely and we were given our original room. The hotel appears to be under going a bit of refurbishment but it did not effect our stay, and for the price of the room it was reasonable.
The reason our stay was 5 stars is because of the staff and the amazing restaurant. We had booked dinner which was a 4 course tasting menu (at an amazing price!) and by far the best meal we've ever had. Outstanding, and really made our stay special. We cannot wait to come back and see what's on the menu.
Thank you very much.

My boyfriend and I stayed for 2 nights in the Ballinluig Hotel at the end of our holiday. It was a lovely way to finish off. The hotel has recently been renovated (and there is some still going on, I think) and we had one of the freshly painted/redesigned rooms which was spacious and very clean.

We had planned to have dinner there on the first night having arrived from Ballater, but the food was so amazing we ended up eating there on the Saturday as well. We had the 4 course tasting menu (see pictures) and it was UNBELIEVABLE: everything was really fresh and beautiful and I don't know how they manage to get so much taste onto one plate! All the dishes were delicately balanced and full of flavour. My favourites were the salmon tartare (the salmon/ginger taste combo was so crisp and zingy) and the chicken mousse - it was really delicately shredded chicken, fried on the outside and served with pickled carrots and mushrooms that just set it off perfectly. The breakfast was a similar idea; 4 courses, with the hot breakfast bit cooked to order. Unfortunately I ate my cheese and spinach omelette too quickly to get a photo of it!

The place has loads of nice wee touches; the flowers on the tables had been picked from the back garden of the hotel, some of the herbs on our meal had been foraged locally, it's a local joiner who has made individual headboards for each of the rooms, etc. You get the impression everything they do is very carefully considered, which just makes it a really pleasant place to be. The staff were all so lovely and the bar, whilst small, had a very good selection; I had my first taste of Badvo, which is an award-winning gin made a few miles away with ingredients grown on the hill farm where the distillery sits.

We used the hotel as a base to go into Pitlochry and do a few walks in the surrounding area. Overall it was a lovely, relaxing stay with exceptionally good eating. Will definitely be back!

If you're staying here, it's probably because you read about the great food. There is little to see from the outside that might entice you in, but have some faith and make sure you book for dinner. The 4 course tasting menu is all that is on offer, but it is well worth staying for and excellent value. The chef made several visits to our table to tell us about the local ingredients and how they were prepared, and it didn't disappoint. The surroundings are basic but clean, and socially distanced. Not much atmosphere in the restaurant or bar, but if you are okay in a quiet environment you will have a great meal. Not really much for kids, so check with the hotel first if you are considering it. Breakfast the following morning was equally good. Our bedroom (a small double) lived up to it's description, and was indeed small but adequate, and clean, and we managed a good nights sleep. There was no view from the window, and the bathroom was basic although the shower over the bath was great. Few other amenities aside from a TV and Wifi. When we visited, the staircase to the bedroom had stripped walls and was awaiting decoration, which didn't give a great impression. So, if you fancy a great value dining experience with basic accommodation, you won't be disappointed.

Zander and the team are the most friendly and welcoming hosts we have had the pleasure of meeting in a long time. Our superior room was spacious and very comfortable with toiletries, kettle, tea and coffee, milk, large TV, and hairdryer. Breakfast is just great and suited us as we are not big on cooked breakfasts, fresh orange juice and fruit salad, toast, butter, jams, fresh fruit compute, yogurt, granola, coffee or tea, then plated cheeses, salami's and (grapes, apple and tomato sliced) to finish banana bread and cinnamon rolls. well worth a booking as you wont be disappointed, We will be back Zander, Frances Room A12
