Just returned from a week at West Down and are already looking forward to returning next year. Roger and Brenda are great hosts and we shared many laughs in the evenings. We were served excellent food nicely presented, perhaps the highlight was the dessert trolley where the choice was so extensive it made deciding what to have a bit of a struggle! I must also add that I have never seen such a magnificent display of hanging baskets and tubs filled to overflowing with colour. I didn’t count how many but there must have been well over a hundred. Our adapted room had everything necessary for my disabled husband which went a long way to making our stay stress free. Don’t delay, book today.
A perfectly run guest house. Our room was excellent The service was excellent The food was excellent Any one wanting a break in Devon should pay this a visit. The charming and amusing hosts look after your every need. Can’t praise it enough
We stayed in the Swallow Room which was comfortable and had the huge bonus of a large wet room suitable for a disabled person. On our arrival we were greeted with a welcoming hot drink and cakes in the conservatory. With hindsight the home made cakes were probably a mistake because we had to make room for the lovely dinner in the evening, not to mention the pre-dinner drinks at 7pm. Brenda is a wonderful cook and her dinners are amazing. Everything stands out but the deserts are exceptional. The dilemma is always going to be which sweet to choose, because they always look so tempting. You will have a similar problem with the breakfasts. There is always a good selection of fresh fruit available with a prepared fresh fruit salad with blueberries, raspberries, kiwi and other fruit. The muesli was excellent. Cooked breakfasts included the option of smoked haddock, which was so good I had it for 3 days running. Attention to detail was very noticeable and included high quality preserves and specialist honey. This small guest house put to shame our previous 'posh' hotel in Cornwall. About a quarter the cost but the breakfast, good as it was, soundly beaten into 2nd place! There is so much to commend this place, with good views and colourful gardens surrounding the conservatory. Even the birds are well looked after and they regularly eat at the feeders which are strategically placed around the garden. When we left we carelessly left behind a pillow. Brenda posted the item to us before we had even realised it was missing. No wonder this place is so popular receiving so much return custom. Thank you both for such a lovely break.…
Our second visit to West Down and certainly was not disappointed! Food was first-class and Brenda and Roger were on 'top form'! There are so many places to visit round about including RHS Rosemoor and it's great to have such a lovely accommodation and hosts to return to after a day's sightseeing.
A very short break to the area. A warm and friendly greeting on arrival, followed by the lightest scones I have ever tasted, sitting outside admiring the stunning views and magnificent gardens. Breakfast and Evening meals were substantial and very tasty. Brenda and Roger's hospitality went beyond the extra mile, thank you both for a great, relaxing stay. I hope to visit again next year to explore the area more
