Lovely basic site with perfect surroundings. Toilets and showers were very clean and warm, i was concerned there wasn't many of them but never had to wait for either so it works somehow!
Very safe for my 3yr old to play. He loved the friendly dogs !
Good cycling to be done straight from the campsite, we cycled into the village to try food at the pubs. 5 minutes drive from Whinlatter forrest which is amazing.
Very respectful campers on site, quiet at night and quiet in the morning too! Will definately be back .

We had 6 nights here and absolutely loved it.
The previous pictures I have seen on reviews don’t really do it justice, it’s in a lovely location backing onto hills and fields with sheep in them (which my daughter loved). A small walk up the footpath gives you views over bassenthwaite water.
It is also very close to Keswick and derwentwater

Owners are friendly and helpful, facilities are clean, well laid out and well maintained
Site is in two halves with a larger field one one side, then a small more intimate field with yurts in on other side

I will go back to this place time and time again, I cannot fault it

As well as being in a great location for walks / activities in the Lake District, I would say that this is the best maintained camp site I have ever used. The showers were amazing, and all facilities were clean. I had no difficulty arriving, finding the reception, and getting my pitch whatsoever. I hope to be back soon.

I’ll start with that the campsite toilets are clean and it is quiet after 10pm which are the positives. However, the camper van pitches do not have the best view of the surrounding countryside, more a view of the bins and the toilet block!! Both mornings whilst staying we were also awoken by the sound of bin men and a bin lorry collecting the rubbish at 6.30AM and 7 AM the next morning not the start to the day that we anticipated. We decided to do a walk to the local village following a public footpath. The footpath took us through the farmyard which is part of the site in which two sheepdogs were laying down. We went back to reception and asked if the dogs would be ok for us to walk through the yard as we had a dog on a lead with us. The man in reception said that was fine and that they would just bark but they are fine!!!! This was not true. The dogs surrounded us and one went for our dog who squealed. We hurried through and continued our walk later to discover that our dog was bleeding and had a puncture wound from the dog in the yard. We later witnessed the same sheepdogs attack another dog walking through the site on a lead as they were with the farmer who did tell his dog off. This needs to be a warning to other campers who are told that dogs are welcome however does not warn anyone anywhere to keep away from the farm dogs. On reporting this to reception the man couldn’t have cared less and said that it’s not their farm. Other reviewers who claim the staff are friendly may want to rethink this view and it is very much sold as a campsite with a farm which clearly they decide to be part of when it suits. Much better sites elsewhere in the Lake District visited before and for less money so needless to say we will not be returning.

The good:
A short 10minute walk to the local village down a quiet road (suggest taking a torch if you are going to be late). Glamping pods have wood fire burners. Good location for walking in the Lakes. Showers, toilets etc.. clean and functional. Showers (x3) decent size and provide a good shower. Three sinks for washing pots.
Heating in the glamping pods was effective and on a thermostate. Staff helpful and accommodating.

The not so good:
Ony two sit down toilets for gents - one of which is effectively an outside toilet. In the height of the season I can't see how this will be enough.
The glamping pods are the most basic I have ever stayed in. Just a box, carpet, heater and sockets. I would suggest other glamping pods around the lakes are much better equipped, and the family ones, much larger.
No phone number to call (the one on their website is incorrect).

I have a mixed review of this campsite.
Myself and my Husband pitched up for 7 days last week, although came home 2 days early.
The weather had not been great which was definitely a factor and in no way the campsite’s fault. No one wants to take down a soaking wet tent so we cut our losses and left in the dry!
The campsite is in an idyllic location with beautiful views and close to local amenities and only 5 mins up the road from Keswick.
The facilities were kept clean and COVID 19 guidelines were in place, we both felt safe.
A couple of things I wish I had known prior... there are only 3 showers in total and they are unisex. You access them walking through the pot wash which made me feel a bit weird and I would have liked to have been prepared for that. There are 2 ladies toilets, 2 gents toilets and 2 unisex toilets.
There is a plug socket in the pot wash which would have been useful to know, as being on a non EHU pitch I would have brought chargers/hairdryer etc.
There are no hand dryers or paper towels in the toilets, so every time you use them you need to remember to take your own towel or be prepared to “air dry”.
The showers though, were clean and warm and so was the pot wash area.
Our biggest issue was the mud! We were pitched on the open field and could not get our car anywhere near our pitch otherwise it would have got stuck. We had to buy additional tarp in order to make our stay possible. It was unpleasant to sit outside our tent, and there were sections of the tent we had to avoid standing on as they just sank. A couple came and pitched up next to us and then left the next day as they couldn’t cope with it. Since being home I have done 8 loads of washing!
It’s a shame, as the site is in a great location but would really benefit from some proper drainage and is better suited to Glastonbury style groups who don’t mind getting covered in mud and using unisex facilities.

This review applies specifically to Lanefoot Loft, which is situated on the Lanefoot campsite. The loft is a clean and well maintained studio for 2, which is comfortable and cosy. It is located in an area just outside Keswick, and has great views all around. Approximately a mile away, the village of Braithwaite has 3 pubs which serve food. There are a couple of practical points which I think are important for anyone thinking of booking a stay at the loft. It is located directly above the showers and washing up area for the campsite, and can be noisy at times. The earliest we heard the shower pipes was around 5am, and people were washing up as late as 11.15pm. Also, the loft is advertised as self-catering, but all that is available for preparing meals is a single ring hob and a microwave, so the reality is that you need to go out for any substantial meals. If you are ok with that, then I would recommend Lanefoot Loft as a good place to stay.

Average campsite, spoilt now I think with the fact most campsites have some half decent facilities. So you sort of expect more from campsites these days than say you did 10 years ago. Everything just seemed a bit grimy in the toilet and shower blocks. Shower I used either ran at cold or scolding temperature. No hand dryers in the toilet. For the men 2 toilets and two urinals for what I could see for the whole campsite....

Couple of random rules. Eg no music. Only burn the campsite bought fire wood. Which naturally is more expensive than you can buy in town. Surely just say don't burn foraged wood and rubbish. As that causes admittedly a lot of smoke etc. You can pick up bags for about £4 where the site changes £ 6.50.

Also why not say only play music at an ambient background level if it is not then you will be asked to switch it off. Personally I don't listen to music other than driving so made no impact on me.

Not much interaction with staff just on arrival and departure. Arrival was ok, explained everything but hardly the warmest of welcomes and departure just glare and barely a word. Sort of fitted the long list of rules your given on arrival and the tone there in.

For one night the site would be fine it is a traditional campsite. An good location for a base for exploring.

What a lovely site in a superb location with great clean facilities. It feels like a campsite should be - before corporate types got hold of the main sites.
If you like mountain biking or simply walking in superb landscapes with stunning scenery then this is for you!
My only concern is if it becomes too popular, sadly around one vacated pitch some git had left rubbish and discarded charcoal when though there are plenty of bins, including a hot coals bin. Hey ho.
Whinlatter Forest is minutes away and one can cycle back down either on Forest / cycle routes or via the great Braithwaite pubs (guess my preference?).

😂 Yes, there are 3 pubs in Braithwaite, serving an assortment of local beers and very tasty food, with great views of the surrounding fells, or wood fires in the colder months. Braithwaite is only half a mile from the campsite, so 5 minutes on a bike or 15 to 20 minutes walk, along a quiet lane. Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review for our campsite and for giving us 5 bubbles 🤩 We are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay and our great location. It is annoying when people do not clean up after themselves. A bit of an insult really, because we do provide ample bins for general rubbish and all types of recycling on site. We hope to see you again 😊

A nice no frills campsite for our weekend away in the campervan.
Was met by a lovely young lady who explained where everything was and showed us to our pitch.
Showers, toilets and washing up facilities spot on with the added bonus of a drying room which cane in handy after a soaking on

Are there sockets in the bathroom area - i.e. for a hairdryer?
Ackworth, United Kingdom14 contributions10 helpful votes
Not in the bathroom area but there are sockets in the shared area/ reception (where all the books and leaflets are next to the wash up area). I saw people blowing up air beds so would assume a hairdryer is allowed. Give them a quick call - they are really helpful :-)
