Ikweta Country Inn in Maua town, Meru County, provides high standard budget accommodation and unrivaled conference facilities and services. It is situated in a tranquil setting in a flower garden (the Maua Gardens) by the Mboone River which traverses the property. It is located about 277 km from Nairobi and 60 km from Meru town. Accommodations are in 38 double guest rooms, the majority on the Maua Gardens overlooking the Mboone River. We offer competitive Conference Packages. Since we opened for business in October 2010, we have been honoured to host many meetings organised by international and national organisations, both governmental and non-governmental, as well as by senior national leaders. Most of the hotel guest rooms are on the riverfront. All guest rooms are decorated in an original, tasteful distinctive African design and colors. The en suite bathrooms have deliberately been enlivened with attractive colors. There are TVs in most rooms. Facilities at Ikweta Country Inn include a large conference room capable of hosting 300 people and four smaller meeting rooms with different capacities. We have ample, suitable outdoor sitting areas in the Maua Gardens and in the Makuti Room for informal consultations. The Executive Boardroom is available for private, secured meetings. The Business Centre can provide complete office support, including secretarial services. High-speed Internet via VSAT is available in the meeting rooms and in designated Wi-Fi Zones (Terms and conditions apply). Conference equipment (projectors, laptops, whiteboards, etc) is available for a small fee. There is a high-capacity generator to counter power outages. Safety and security are assured 24/7. The hotel's Bistro features excellent and varied cuisine with fresh local produce. The Highlands Bar is well-appointed. The Riverfront Cafe and Makuti Room in the private and beautifully-landscaped Maua Gardens across the Mboone River serve light meals and beverages. Ikweta Country Inn is only 30 minutes to the Murera Gate of Meru National Park on an all-weather road, making it a convenient base for exploring the complete wilderness of one of Kenya's most beautiful national parks. Ikweta Country Inn is part of the IKWETA brand of tourism products and services promoting affordable safari luxury and value for money in environments noted for natural elegance, style and convenience. The other properties are Ikweta Safari Camp, Meru National Park, Murera Gate, and Lake View Studios, Lake View Drive, Nairobi.

We stayed at the Ikweta for 8 days while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. While the town of Maua is not-so-inviting to foreigners, this hotel provided a peaceful and comfortable place for us. The staff is friendly, the food is fairly good, and the outdoor patio areas are really great. The cabana-style TV room was just completed during our stay and was a good spot for our group of 7 to enjoy drinks and card games and make a little more noise. While modest by American standards (internet didn't work the entire time we were there, inconsistent water temperature, etc.) it was a gem compared to the rest of the town. If your travels ever take you to Maua, I would highly recommend it.

We always stay in this hotel when we visit Maua which is my husband's home town. It is a decent place with friendly staff.

Simple but very creative furnishings in the rooms. Each room is uniquely done.

Great to hear from our return guests! "Little haven" is what we have tried to create with Ikweta Country Inn located in its tranquil setting in a flower garden (the Maua Gardens) by the Mboone River which traverses the hotel. Our guest rooms are decorated with distinctive African designs and colors all with en suite bathrooms enlivened by attractive colors and inspirational quotes.

We were travelling on our wheels to and from Meru NP and stayed two nights. Rooms with private bathroom are recent and quite good. You can eat some western food. The place is quiet and safe. The road to reach the Inn is in bad shape. A good alternative to some very expensive lodges in this area.

Appreciate your constructive review. Some good news, the Meru County Government has been upgrading the road network around Maua Town including access to Ikweta Country Inn. Indeed, we continue to offer good value for the money in the range of quality budget accommodation only 30 minutes to the Main (Murera) Gate of Meru National Park.

First of Many visits. Very suitable for couples and business persons alike. I found everyone to be friendly, helpful, thoughtful, efficient and proactive. Great WIFI.
Overall I think you’ll be hard pushed to find better service and food in this whole side of Meru.

I have been going to the quite ugly town of Maua on the Nyambeni hills many times for business. There was really nothing worth where to eat or stay. Until they opened this Ikweta Country Inn! It comes really as a surprise. You arrive there from dirty roads and then you are in manicured gardens, very clean and comfortable rooms, lots of friendly staff, and the restaurant al fresco offers a lot.
Realy a surprising Inn in an otherwise undescripted town.

You wouldn't believe such a place existed in Maua with the rough road heading there.

Beautiful place. Had drinks there one evening In August 2013...Decor is tasteful, staff is friendly...Drinks fairly priced and with a beautiful ambience ...It was a bit too quiet for my liking...
Would have preferred some soft music to be playing in the background as we enjoyed our drinks...and/or better yet a screen that can show programs with the sound off so that guests can be able to still enjoy a decent conversation while enjoying some television action. Especially important for those who travel alone.

The place is awesome, the ambiance and location very quiet. Was there over the weekend.16th jan to be precise. The rooms are very clean, cosy and loved the detail in every room. Service was very pathetic right from the Receptionist lady who was very rude, save for one Waitress who I got to know her name Wanja was very helpful and professional. The restaurant service was very poor, very slow..looked like the staff was demotivated. The bar is not stocked.most of the drinks I and my friends asked for were apparently out of stock. We were forced to go have fun elsewhere and just came back to sleep! Was left wondering did they treat us this bad because we are locals and maybe the hotel is a preserve for foreign tourist?

This was a group of five very difficult guests - Rita J and her four companions (two men and two other ladies). The review by Rita J is not truthful nor is it balanced - since it does not tell what really transpired. The guests arrived at the Hotel on Friday night, 15 January 2016, around 9:30 p.m. Two of the ladies (Rita J, the author of the review in TripAdvisor, and one of the other ladies) were already completely drunk and behaved in an aggressive and abusive manner towards the female Hotel employee on duty at the Front Desk at the time. The two gentlemen, although also inebriated, behaved in a somewhat more civilized fashion at the time, although earlier in the day, one of the gentlemen had been at the Hotel and had behaved in an abusive manner to the employees on duty at the time about the Hotel’s Wi-Fi policy. [As a "walk-in" guest, he was not entitled to Wi-Fi credentials to access the Internet over the Hotel's network. According to the Hotel's Standard Operating Procedures, this service is available only to guests staying at the Hotel. No walk-ins have ever had issues with this Hotel policy in the past.] What Rita J claims - that the drinks they wished to have at our Bar were said to be out of stock and that they "were forced to go have fun elsewhere and just came back to sleep!" (sic) - is not entirely truthful. Rita J and her group were refused service at our Bar because they were actually already quite drunk. We have trained and continue to train our employees on recognizing substance abuse, so as to be able to recognize levels of intoxication, i.e., 'when guests seem to have had one too many', and the liability, as well as the responsibility of our establishment in regard to "proper alcohol service with care", so that we do not fuel, and are not seen to be fueling, irrational behavior. The crux of the problem with these very difficult guests entailed their refusal to register for the Guest Rooms at the Hotel that they wished to take. These guests just did not want to undergo the proper Guest Registration process for the hotel accommodation as required under Kenya's laws. It is as if they wanted to be accommodated at the Hotel while concealing their identities… Kenyan law is very clear about hotel guest registration: It states that hospitality facilities "shall keep a register" at the establishment and "shall enter or cause to be entered in the register particulars of every guest"... The application of this law is particularly important at present given prevailing safety and security concerns in the country and around the world. In compliance, our Hotel requires all guests (without exception) to complete a Guest Registration Form and to furnish to the establishment a valid picture ID (national ID for Kenyans and nationals of the other East African Community member states and national passport for nationals of all other countries; Kenyans and nationals of the other EAC countries may also present their passports as ID). A scan of the guest’s picture ID is retained for records, together with the guest’s other Registration particulars. Most of our guests - Kenyans or from other countries - have absolutely no issue whatsoever with the required, standard registration procedure but a very small negligible number, like the guests in question, do. These particular guests were very abusive to the female employee on duty at the Front Desk, with Rita J actually screaming insults to the employee and shouting “I am not a terrorist” and therefore that she need not present her picture ID, even mentioning names of some big hotels that she said did not require her to do so… Throughout this tirade, the employee on duty remained very calm, and conducted herself in a very professional manner, which was most commendable under the difficult circumstances, although Management does not tolerate abusive guests and ordinarily, any guests refusing to abide by the lawful guest registration process are to be turned away. The Hotel also reserves the right to report such guests to law enforcement. Finally, we wish to note that Rita J also makes some unacceptable xenophobic comments about our establishment - to the effect that she and her friends were "left wondering did they treat us this bad because we are locals and maybe the hotel is a preserve for foreign tourist?" (sic). TripAdvisor should not be used as the channel to legitimize such backward sentiments. Moreover, such a racist practice, as Rita J alleges, is totally unacceptable and is punishable under Kenya's anti-discrimination laws, and is certainly not the practice at any of our establishments. The Hotel Management regrets that some difficult and unreasonable guests, such as the ones referenced here, sometimes resort to abusing the review process in TripAdvisor as a kind of vengeance against an establishment when they were not allowed to have their way. Rita J’s TripAdvisor review is untruthful and potentially libelous.

Cosy hotel. Really clean sheets.
The Garden at the back is beautiful and a fine touch to it.

The food: Breakfast was standard. Bacon, eggs, toast bread. No baked beans.

Pan fried chicken was my favourite for dinner. The service is a tad slow though.

The bar: not fully stocked. As a liquer fun I didn't find my fix.

The Wifi: Good enough. Downtimes are few and far between.

All round perfect place for a town like Maua.

iKWETA Country Inn (Maua) offers budget quality accommodation, “all round perfect place for a town like Maua” as you say. iKWETA Country Inn is situated in a tranquil setting in a flower garden, the Maua Gardens ('Maua' in Kiswahili translates as flowers in English). The Mboone River traverses the property adding to the tranquility of the lush environment. We meticulously nurture our botanical garden and its natural beauty speaks for itself. As for the cuisine, all our dishes from the 'A La Carte' menu are made to order and service done accordingly. Thanks for your bar tip, we appreciate it.

Ikweta Country Inn is one of the very few East African Community star-rated Town hotels in all of Meru County. We are situated in a tranquil setting in a flower garden – the Maua Gardens – by the Mboone River which traverses the property. We are a haven of serenity within the busy town of Maua. Since COVID-19 we have limited our services to quality Bed & Breakfast accommodations. We are unrivalled by any other for the low price we charge and the standard we provide. By prior arrangement, we offer half-board (Bed, Breakfast and Lunch or Dinner). You and your group did not make any prior arrangement and you did not make any booking in advance or reservation. During your short stay (two nights to be exact) there were issues with the Internet service provider. We are sorry for that but this was beyond our control. The reviewer unfortunately misrepresents our hotel. Quality of accommodation in surrounding area in the budget hotel category can not be compared in any way or form to ours. We charge US $25/night for single occupancy B&B and US $37/night for double occupancy B&B. For these affordable rates, we offer quality boutique-style accommodation in a secure, safe and clean environment.

Thanks for your visit. Admittedly, we are perplexed as you seem to consider iKWETA Country Inn a “great environment for vacation” yet you are somehow disappointed by the same. You did not appreciate our personalized services as hundreds of others have over the years. Generally, we are acclaimed for our friendly staff. Also puzzling is your characterization of our staff as not "genuine". iKWETA Country Inn, Maua, is rated a quality ** (TWO) Star-rated budget Bed & Breakfast by the Kenya | East African Community classification of Tourism Enterprises (Category: Town Hotels). We are one of a handful of Town Hotels in all of Meru County to receive such a rating. As you were able to see iKWETA Country Inn is situated in a tranquil setting in a flower garden (the Maua Gardens) by the Mboone River which traverses the property. It is described by many a traveller as an oasis – the hidden gem of Maua Town.

The hotel is some 500 m from one of the hospitals in Maua. You can get there on foot. And you can easily check on the google maps if we mean the same hospital. Rgds
