Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Traditional British Sunday lunch at is very, very best. Attentive staff, excellent food, decent wine list, old world charm, Tony Rose at the bar. What else does anybody need on a Sunday? I'm selling our oven. See you next week guys!

Phoned the restaurant at midday yesterday to check that we could eat, was told by the lady who answered the phone (quite abruptly) that the restaurant was very busy and we must book, even though I said I was heading straight down. So I did. Upon arrival 20 minutes later the restaurant clearly was not busy, the terrace was empty aside from a team of workmen. I walked into the pub and again was met with a frosty reception and barstaff chatting with customers sat on a small table drinking. We were asked to sit out outside at our named table and told that someone would be out soon. Waited for 7 or 8 minutes. Could hear the continued conversation being carried out through the open window with the barstaff and customers sat at the table inside. Having visited and enjoyed this pub for food over a number of years, I must say after being left sat at my table outside whilst listening to the staff chatting with the drinkers was frustrating. Particularly following such a poor booking and arrival experience. I picked up our things and left. Having eaten here plenty of times, I can see for myself when it is busy or not. I have no issue with booking a table - why tell a customer you are busy when you are not? Wasted 45 minutes of my day for very hospitality shortfalls.

We stayed for four nights in the Manor Suite for a local wedding. We had two young children with us and the suite was perfect, the kids room completely separate which was a welcome change to the normal pub family rooms. The room was clean and lovely, the staff were super friendly even the cleaning staff were lovely when we bumped into them. The food was amazing and the manager was very understanding and helpful with the kids. A great stay at a very well run place.

Rooms are nicely appointed. Huge comfortable bed. Food is excellent and good value, you leave the table full. Service is very nice, young people serving so be kind. Landlord leads by example. You could stay in a soulless premier inn or bnb or stay at the Staunton Arms where your custom is valued.

Just returned home from a one night still here at the Staunton Arms and we feel we have all had an amazing break away. As a family we had both the hotel accommodation and the cottage just a short walk away. I’ll start with the cottage, we couldn’t wait to get into the hot tub which was already heated for us to jump straight in, the views are stunning with a water fountain nearby too. The cottage is impressive, it’s actually huge, you will not worry for space indoor or outside, so many amenities included, too many to list! We all enjoyed a super evening meal, not one complaint from our group of 7, they dealt with my daughters food allergy too which is a big worry for me usually so this is worth the mention. We had a comfortable nights sleep in our huge beds and enjoyed a fantastic breakfast and a great choice, the full English is highly recommended. Sad to leave, a real treat and lovely breakaway for one night. Would happily visit again.

Visited the Staunton Arms this evening for a family meal. Two of us ordered haddock and chips at £14.95 each. These meals arrived with the haddock sat upon a total of six chips each! Maybe this odd way of serving fish and chips was due to the embarrassment of the tiny portion of chips. When asked by the waiting staff how the meal was we mentioned the the fact that it was a mean portion of chips, he just said sorry about that. Poor value for money and would not recommend.

I visited this pub for a meal today with a group of friends. I ordered the large haddock and chips at £14.95. When it came the chips were hidden under the fish. I had the grand total of six chips as did a friend with the same meal. Those who ordered the light meal which I believe was £7.95 were given four chips with a smaller piece of fish. At least my fish was large even if the batter was overcooked. The chips and mushy peas were small , as was the very small piece of lemon. The service was also poor. We waited a long time between courses and I had my coffee long before my dessert. The dessert itself was not the best. I usually enjoy an ice cream sundae but this one had very large chunks in it . I felt that someone had not used sufficient care to only add bite sized chunks. I would not repeat either course and I would probably not return to this pub

A Copy of the email I sent Good afternoon , I feel I need to bring to your attention our visit for Sunday lunch on 20/11/22, the table was booked at 16.30 , I was one of the guests . I ordered my started which was Chorizo Goats cheese and rocket , when the waitress brought it out I thought I had the wrong starter and asked her if this was what I had ordered ? She said yes ,,, to which I asked her to return it to the kitchen and ask to put some goats cheese on it as it had 4 tiny flakes of cheese on it !! To which she did, and promptly brought it back with a sparse scattering ( I have pictures) of goats cheese . That is the worst starter I have ever had and imo totally unacceptable to serve to guests and charge £5.50. There was 3 small slices of chorizo, a scattering of rocket and the goats cheese was near non existent. The rest of the party ordered starters which were fine and quite substantial . Mine and my partners main course was beef. This was awful , stringy and tough , and cut so thin it was see through , the veg etc was very good but , again unacceptable to charge £22 for 2 courses. We did not enjoy our experience with yourselves as the food was poor , especially my starter , and felt for a combined bill of £130 was no way value for money . I look forward to your reply Regards Graham Chapman I got a reply straight away apologising and offering me vouchers , which I was grateful. These vouchers haven’t arrived despite a polite reminder by myself reminding the manager of his offer. IMO , Avoid at all costs , there are better places to eat 2 miles away in long Bennington .
